DWELLING ON WHAT HE DID FOR US!

It is Good Friday and I am sure many of us are letting our hearts and spirits dwell on just what this means to us.  And there is MUCH to consider.  To think that He loved us enough to come to earth and dwell among us just so that He could teach us how to live our lives in perfect obedience to the Father is overwhelming enough, but when you then consider all that He suffered and went through in order that we might spend our eternities with Him, now we are truly blown away.  It was the perfect sacrifice, and the ultimate gift all rolled into one.

Again I have found myself dwelling and considering what it might have been like to have been there that day.  To have stood helplessly at the foot of that cross KNOWING there was nothing I could to do to stop it and KNOWING the pain He was suffering, that would ultimately end in death.  Could I have even watched?  I can barely watch the movie that was made a few years ago as it is so graphic and real.   And yet I have heard it preached that it was probably nothing like the horror of the actual event.  Jesus they say, was not even recognizable.

I was also dwelling somewhat on how it must have been right after Jesus died. How the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. How there was a mighty earthquake and many died. How graves were opened and many bodies of the saints were raised. Can you only imagine how frightening it all must have been, and how even more frightening it had to have been to realize FINALLY that Jesus really was the Son of God?!

And yet, how wonderful for me to KNOW the end of the story.  That Jesus was to rise again on the third day having conquered sin and death FOREVER!    To open wide the gates of heaven that we might all spend our eternities with Him.  But for today I will focus on what He did for us and went through for us that day.  What He went through just for ME.  How MY sins helped put Him up there on that cross, and how His blood that was shed that day covers those sins forever.  How grateful I am.  How much I owe Him, and yet it is a debt that I never have to pay.  He loves me just the way I am.  Yes, there is much to consider today.

  6. I always try and think of that on Good Friday too. It always makes me think of how the gospels really did leave in just enough. My brain really does fill in to much.
Thank you these are such good thoughts.
