CAPRI'S CLOAK

Well here we are to Friday again....and mid May as well!  Time just whips by.  I have had a busy week it seems.  Spent all day Wednesday at mom's, and got a few things done for her.  Yesterday I did laundry (isn't this an exciting post?!) and I did get Capri's cloak made.  Now technically it is not a cloak, but a cape, and hopefully she will not pick up on that.  ;-)  I went to Joanne's on Tuesday after my doc appointment (I will tell that story in a another post) and went through the pattern books to see if I couldn't find something that would work for a cloak.  I wish I was one of those gals who could fashion something without a pattern, but it has just never been me.  I did find an actual cloak, but it came in only adult sizes.  After much deliberation I decided I might be able to cut down an adult pattern to work, so imagine my dismay when I discovered they were out of that pattern anyway.  Back to the books.  I decided to go with a Little Red Riding Hood cape.  It seems "cloakish" don't ya think?  Next dilemma was the pattern called for 72 in. fabric which pretty much meant it had to be made out of felt as I didn't know of any other kind of fabric that came in that size.  Now if I was a REAL seamstress (as opposed to just a grandma who tinkers) I could have simply cut the width of the cape down and made it work.  But again, it is what it is.  I did find a BRIGHT hot pink fabric which I think she will love, and it wasn't really too expensive.  I made the whole thing for around 10 dollars including the pattern which didn't seem to bad.  Sooo here it is....

It looks like the hood is kind of small compared to the rest of it in this picture, but it really isn't.  And considering it was made of felt and therefore didn't need to hemmed etc., the whole thing took maybe a half hour to make!

It ties at the neck with ribbon.  I was thinking if she wants it to be more like a cloak, I could just cut a couple of arms holes in it.  I have a feeling the whole thing will be a lot cuter on her.  Hopefully I can get a pic of that on Sun.

Things are continuing to go down hill for my poor step dad which is upsetting my mother of course.  I am hating watching all of this happening, and knowing I really can't do much.  Your prayers are MUCH appreciated.  My hubby and I will go over there again tonight when he gets home, and hopefully we can help them out some more.  I have a feeling we may have played our last game of cards....so sad.

Other than that I have to show you a couple of pics of some of my grands.  They sure keep a smile on this grandma's face, and lift my heart like little else.

JD LOST HIS FIRST TOOTH...HE WASN'T EXCITED OR ANYTHING...SUCH A CUTIE!

MY DAILY DOSE OF BLUE EYED SAM!  HE HAS FINALLY CUT HIS SECOND TOOTH!

A RECENT VISITOR!

COULDN'T BELIEVE HOW LONG HE SAT THERE, THOUGH I CAUGHT HIM ORIGINALLY EATING THOSE FLOWERS BEHIND HIM....I THINK HE WAS JUST WAITING FOR ME TO LEAVE SO HE COULD RESUME HIS LUNCH, HAHA

Hope you all have a good week-end!

  7. The cloak is very nice and I'm sure the grandgirlie will love it.

Your mother must have felt so blessed to have your help the other day. It's not easy to need help. And it's also not easy to be on the sidelines watching as our loved ones fail, yet such a ministry to them to be present. Truly present.

Many blessings...the grands are so cute...some losing teeth and others gaining them. ☺
