MY "FIDDLY" PROJECTS...

Well it is a little after 11:00 on Friday morning, and my sister has just left with my mom, and it has been another long, productive, busy and yet good week.  We had been waiting for my younger sister (who is soo gifted in this area) to help us make the flower swag for over my mom's bed, but she just couldn't seem to find the time in her BUSY schedule to pull it off, so mom and I decided we would attempt it on our own.  Here is the bottom line, with mom as my trusty assistant we got the job done, and personally I was REALLY happy over the way it turned out.  But it was WAY too fiddly for me.  If you have read my blog for a while now you will know that I am NOT a big fan of what I consider to be "fiddly" projects, so this was not a good point.  However, it did stir the creative juices, and in my head I knew how I WANTED it to look.  This came pretty close.  You should have seen me "trying" to clip the wire flowers, (VERY difficult to say the least) tie them on with tiny little wire, and SEE what I was trying to do all at the same time, but one way or the other, it is done, mom is pleased, and it is finally hung over her bed.  We also hung another "fiddly" project I made for her a few years ago on her 75th birthday.  She always asks me to write her a poem.  I am not sure why, haha, as I am NOT a poet.  But I wrote her a poem and she LOVED it.  So then she wanted me to figure out some way to display it so that everyone could see it...so I came up with this.  Personally I do not think the poem is picture worthy etc., but she loves it so I guess that's the main point.  I took a couple of pics so you can see....(come on, I KNOW your dying to, haha)

THE IRON SCROLL WE STARTED WITH..

THE FLOWERS
FINISHED PRODUCT
I REALLY LIKE THE WAY IT LOOKS...OFF TO THE LEFT IS THE POEM/PIC I MADE FOR MOM A FEW YEARS AGO, AND TO THE RIGHT IS THE PICTURE COLLAGE THAT STILL HAS THE "WEIRD" RANDOM PEOPLE IN IT...NEXT WEEKS PROJECT, HAHA
My mother is a woman
whose many things to me
A friend, a comforter, an encourager
She's the best that she can be.

Six children she has raised
A feet quite large no doubt,
Countless things she's done for us
And all without a pout.

A wife to Joe for many years
She's everything to him,
their marriage an example,
of love up to the brim.

Her many, many grandchildren
love her happy face,
She's always there to show them
God's encouragement and grace.

Her many friends all through the years,
have enjoyed her giving ways,
she keeps them on their toes though
with the card games that she plays.

She has lived on God's earth
for 75 busy years,
and left her mark on all of us,
for this we now give cheers.

May the Lord bless her and keep her in His hand,
because loving her and blessing her has always been His plan.
As you can see, haha, I'd never make my living as a poet, but writing these reminds me so much of my mom's mom.  My grandmother was ALWAYS writing little poems.  We all loved them, and have missed her and them soo much.

On Thursday we were able to go down to San Diego and go to the women's Bible Study group that Larissa is teaching again.  We are going to study 1 Peter.  I am excited about the study as I really soo identify with Peter.  Loved Jesus with all of his heart, but soo impulsive.  Frequently opened his mouth without thinking and just spoke, only to have to be rebuked occasionally by Jesus.  Denied Jesus to a LITTLE GIRL as he gave into fear, and on and on the list goes showing just how human Peter really was.  And yet he was of the main apostles that Jesus used and counted on.  How Jesus loved him in spite of all his shortcomings.  I find this encouraging and uplifting.  It was a long drive for mom, but she did well and enjoyed the day.  We were able to have lunch out afterwards with James so I know that added to her enjoyment as she doesn't get many chances to see my kids.

The week-end stretches ahead and I am looking forward to a whole lot of nothing (God willing) and just relaxing.  Wanted to show you a couple more pictures of how I changed things up a bit after mom came to live here.  Enjoy....Hope you all have a blessed and joyful week-end!

THIS IS JUST SOME EXTRA CUPBOARD SPACE IN OUR UTILITY ROOM.  I DISPLAYED SOME OF MY FAVORITE GRANDKID PICTURES, AND THE CUTE LITTLE SIGN PICS THAT WERE IN THAT BEDROOM HERE, AND THE STICHERY PICTURE THAT I MADE FOR MOM YEARS AND YEARS AGO...BACK WHEN I LIKED "FIDDLY" I GUESS, HAHA
I AM PRETTY CERTAIN I WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO DO THESE STITCHES ANYMORE, BUT I DO REMEMBER LOVING TO DO THESE AT ONE TIME.  (I THINK I WAS IN MY MID TWENTIES...JUST A FEW YEARS AGO, HAHA)
WANTING TO SHOW YOU HOW WELL MY SEWING CABINET WORKED INTO OUR EVERYDAY EATING AREA.  I ALSO THINKING SEWING IN FRONT OF A LARGE WINDOW LIKE THAT WE WILL REALLY HELP THESE OLD EYES SEE BETTER...

THIS IS THE BEAUTIFUL RUNNER MY MOM MADE FOR ME A FEW YEARS AGO!  I LOVE IT, AND THE REVERSE SIDE IS CHRISTMAS...ONE OF MY CHERISHED PIECES.

CLOSER LOOK..

TABLE IN MY ENTRY WAY...THE CENTER COUPLE ARE NEW THIS YEAR.  GOT THEM AT THE NEW HOBBY LOBBY BECAUSE I JUST COUNT'T RESIST.  AREN'T THEY CUTE?

  5. Okay, I thought it was a little early to decorate for fall, but no more. Since seeing this post I've decided that I'm going to do some decorating tomorrow. I don't do much, but am ready to take down the summer and put up the fall.

Your Mom's room looks so good and so homey. I know she has enjoyed the projects you two have done together. How sweet!

Hope you have a relaxing weekend!

You did really good with your 'fufu' swag! And your poem was so sweet, no wonder your mother wanted you to display it.
You're making me think I need to get with it and dig out my Thanksgiving decor too!

  8. I love the needlework. I still enjoy creating something with a needle and thread. Wish I was a seamstress like my mom, but maybe one day. Until then, I do the easier things. :)

  14. I think making your own beer is the coolest thing in thw whole world!! Now that your's is properly sealed, you should expect your food to stay fresher longer due to having a consistent temperature to "chill" in. This and the fact that Mars has been shown to have methane in its atmosphere gives the Zeno-biologists oodles of hope that they may one day find microbial fossils or even living microorganisms living in underground colonies on Mars. This salmon recipe sounds absolutely fantastic and is on my list to make soon.
