CHRISTMAS AND OTHER NEWS

Well Christmas 2012 will go record as one of the most different Christmas's I have ever had that is for sure!   My middle son came over to spend the night with us which was really very nice.  So he was there in the morning and we had a wonderful breakfast and opened a couple of gifts.  After that I got dressed and headed down to the hospital to see mom.  We had divided the day between 4 of us  (3 hour stretches a piece) so it was really not too bad for anyone.  That's one of the perks of coming from a family of 6 kids.  My shift was from 11 to 2.  Mom spent most of the time I was there sleeping.  When she was awake she was in pain, and VERY disoriented.  It was all very disturbing to say the very least.  But by the time I arrived back home around 3:15 hubby had dinner ready, and my oldest son and 4 of his kids were there to help celebrate.  His wife stayed home with Cody who was not feeling well at all.  How I thank her for sharing with us on the day!  It was wonderful to relax and enjoy them all.  Jeffie was especially fun on the day, and I had not seen my oldest grand daughter Annabel in several weeks.  She lives with other grandparents and sees her dad every other week-end.  But with her many sports and activities she had missed a few week-ends.  We had a delicious ham, potato salad, beans, and more sweets than you can imagine.  I didn't eat any of them, but everyone said they were delicious.  Here are some of the pics I took on the day with my new camera.  So far I love it.  Of course I have not taken it off of automatic, haha, which I may never do, but I am very pleased.

MY BEAUTIFUL GRAND DAUGHTERS!

They all stayed until around 8, and I was ready by then to just relax for a while before bed.

Today I got to the hospital at around 10, and stayed till around 2:30.  It was a HARD day.  Mom goes from carrying on a pretty coherent conversation, to being completely out of it.  They don't even seem to really know why.  They have backed way off on her meds so I don't think it is that.  They will make a decision (I am praying) by tomorrow morning as to rather or not they will do surgery, so I guess we wait.  They did say that it is not a bad break (as broken necks go) and she should heal just fine with or without surgery.  They just want to do what it quickest and less painful for her.

Guess that is it for now.  James and his family have all recovered from the stomach flu, and Melody is MUCH better and little Sam seems as good as new.  So for now it looks as if next week should happen.  Thank you all soo much for your prayers, I really appreciate it.  Everyone should be there on New Year's Day with the exception of Annabel who was just sick over the thought of not seeing Melody and Mike and Sam.  However she is going to ask her Grandfather if she can come, but I personally won't hold my breath.  Though who knows, God could work a miracle.

Hope you are all doing well, and enjoying this season with your families.  God's best blessings to you all!

  2. Oh my goodness, you do have your hands so full. You do have such a beautiful family. I know I say that all of the time but you do.
I loved that your leg is in the picture that cracked me up because I sit like that all of the time.
I am impressed you didn't eat any goodies. I didn't then but I think I tried to make up for it today. No more for me.
Well I will keep praying for your Mom. It is good you have such a big family too. Well rest if you can.
    Hugs from me to you

  3. Oh, Debbie ... I'm just now finding time to catch up with a few bloggers. I'm so sorry about your mom. I've at my parents' home, almost non-stop, since my dad fell from the roof the day before Thanksgiving and had a nasty break in his ankle. Two surgeries later, he's home, thank the good Lord, but The Man and I are still helping out, as he can't walk for three months, if then.

I know the hospital shifts are so hard and it's even harder watching a parent suffer. I pray your mom has a complete recovery, and that she is soon her old self again.

My dad is 85 and was quite incoherent in the hospital, at various times. The anesthesia from his surgeries was part of it, and the pain meds part of it. The nurses/docs said it's very normal in elderly people, and unavoidable, so take heart. Once Dad got home, his mental capacities returned to normal.

Take care and I'm sending cyber hugs your way.

  6. Yours was the first blog I attempted to leave a message using the iPad. I see that it didn't take. Sigh.

Your grands are such great-looking kids. I know that times are a bit unsettled just now, but I'm praying that everything resolves very nicely indeed. God's plans are so much better than our own.

Praying for your mom to heal and recover quickly and without a lot of pain. Poor lady, she's already been through so much. Praying her an extra blessing today.

  8. Hi there, I'm glad there was so special time during the Christmas and running to the hospital. I wanted to tell you that my dad was hospitalized when he was 80 and he became so disoriented and started having hallucinations too. The nurses didn't think he could go home but then we found out it is very common for seniors(who are 80ish)to really become confused while hospitalized. Hopefully your mom's will pass. Blessings to you today.
    Hugs, Noreen
