HODGEPODGE WEDNESDAY

1.  April 15th is the deadline for Americans to file their state and federal income tax returns.  What's a job you do on a regular basis that could be described as "taxing"?  Well, I guess I'd have to know are we talking physically or mentally?  haha.  Seriously, I don't do a lot of what I might describe as taxing.  My knees keep me from too much physically unless you count vacuuming or laundry.  As for mentally, well A LOT of what I deal with my mom might be described as taxing.  Don't get me wrong.  I LOVE my mom, and I enjoy her company, but there is much that demands my patience and my dependence on the Lord.

2.  I'm participating in the April A-Z blog challenge, and the Hodgepodge happens to fall on Day O this week.  In keeping with that theme....olives, onions, oysters, okra...of the foods mentioned, what's your favorite O food?  Well considering I love onions in just about everything, I guess I would have to go with that.  Though I love black olives too.

3.  What is something memorable you experienced as a child that your own children (or future children./nieces/nephews) will not get to experience?  Well it really was a different time.  We spent most of our time outside just entertaining ourselves in simple, easy ways.   One thing we had though that I really LOVED was the Bookmobile.  A moving library of sorts came around once a week and we could go aboard and check out books.  We also had the bread man who drove his truck through the neighborhood every morning with fresh bread and donuts.  I can still smell it.  And! we used to have our milk delivered to our front porch.  Does it seem most of my memories involved food of some sort?  haha  Hide and go seek, running through sprinklers, and tons of sparklers on the 4th of July while we made home made ice cream comes to mind to.  Not that some of that can't be experienced by today's kids of course, but just not in the same easy way it seems.

4. Term limits for our elected officials....your thoughts?  Yes, I am DEFINITELY for them.  I think that it is important.  I do not think however that the Presidency should be more than 8 years however.  I think that it is plenty.

5.  On April 18th 1775 Paul Revere made his famous "midnight ride"...when did you last make a midnight ride?  Perhaps the fate of a nation wasn't hanging in the balance, but tell us where you were headed anyway....Truthfully this might take some thought as me and midnight don't do well together, haha...Let's see...I think it was very close to that the last time we came home from time at Melody's.  We were soo tired and our little house and warm bed beckoned like you can't imagine.

6.  What would freak you out more...a mouse running across your floor, or a big fat hairy spider?  Oh a mouse for sure.  I hate spiders just as much, but there is just something about a mouse that flips me out.

7.  I love it when people ask me__________?  Do you REALLY have a 40 year old son?  haha.  I still hear it once in a while, but not as often as you might think.  At 58 I feel like he is catching up to me.  ; )

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  I am trying not to be upset, angry, frustrated, flipped out, stressed, concerned that mom is NOT doing well at all on her new med.  You have to get the new drug into your system for several days BEFORE you get off of the old one so that there is no break through seizures, and so to say she is SUPER drugged would be putting it mildly.  I took her to the doc's today just to make sure everything was OK, and she assured me she was fine, and so we began to slowly take away the old med today.  I don't know how long this will take, but in the meantime I am keeping a much more watchful eye on her so that she doesn't fall etc.  I have spent time in prayer this afternoon putting this all in His hands as goodness knows I really can't handle it.  I think I might just have to spend a little more too.  I did do a little sewing (mom sleeps sooo much on all this medication too) and I am officially done with all of the blankets and will start tomorrow on the burp cloths.  Here are some pictures you might enjoy.

I MADE UP ANOTHER "LITTLE" QUILT/RECEIVING BLANKET SO THAT BOTH OF THE GIRLS COULD HAVE ONE.  I THINK THIS ONE MIGHT BE MY NEW FAVORITE (DO I SAY THAT ABOUT THEM ALL? Haha) OH, AND MY HUBBY FIGURED OUT WHAT DIAL I HAD ON SO MY CAMERA IS BACK TO NORMAL.  SOMEDAY I AM GOING TO STUDY AND LEARN ALL ABOUT THIS CAMERA...I PROMISE!

CUTE...AND I FINALLY GOT MY SQUARES IN DIAGONAL ROWS, HAHA

LARISSA WANTED ONE MADE OUT OF SATIN AS ALL OF HER BABIES HAVE LOVED THAT AND HAVE IT AS THEIR FAVORITES.  I USED MINKY WITH IT.  JUST SO YOU KNOW....NEVER AGAIN, HAHA.  WHILE I LOVE LOVE LOVE HOW MINKY LOOKS AND FEELS, IT WAS SOMEWHAT OF A NIGHTMARE FOR ME TO WORK WITH.  IT STRETCHED SOO WHILE YOU WERE SEWING, AND! TOGETHER WITH THE SLIPPERY SATIN WAS JUST NOT GOOD.  IT DOES FEEL WONDERFUL, EVEN IF IT DOESN'T LOOK PERFECT.

BETTER LOOK AT THE SATIN
HONESTLY CANNOT BELIEVE HOW BIG HE IS GETTING.  AND LOOK AT HIS HAIR FINALLY COMING IN.  SHE SPIKES IT UP A BIT SO YOU CAN SEE IT.   IT IS SOO WHITE!  TOTAL TOWHEAD LIKE HIS MOMMY AND HIS DADDY, LOL

32 WEEKS AND STILL GROWING!  I HAVE ONLY SEEN HER ONCE THROUGH THIS WHOLE PREGNANCY : ( THANK GOODNESS FOR THE INTERNET.

  5. Beautiful girl!

I hope things get sorted with your mom. It is stressful being the caregiver and feeling responsible for them.

I haven't thought about the Bookmobile in years, but that was a lot of fun! My daughter teaches 5th grade and most of the kids bring Nooks to school. The future is here I guess : )

  6. I forgot about the Bookmobile. We used to have a small family business and were the designated place for it to stop. It used to be one of the highlights of every month!

  9. I love your hodgepodge posts. Another of my favorite bloggers of all time (Chatty Crone) is doing them now too. I love reading them.

This week, I'll start with the last comment about your mom and tell you that I really do lift your mom that the old drug removal will help with the over drugged problem. I know how much you love her and want her to have a quality of life and not just a life.

I will also tell you thanks for the bookmobile and other "mobile" memories. Yes, that's something our kids won't have. It makes me so sad.

And third, I will say that you are a shameless Sam showoff. LOL He is so cute that he makes me scrinch my shoulders when you show a picture. Actually, you have a quiver full of beautiful grandchildren.

  10. Oh, Debbie, bless your sweet heart. Your caregiving to your Mom is one of the hardest jobs on the face of the earth. I do not have my Dad in my home and it is still tough. I cannot imagine having him living with me.

Loved your answer to the things that your children would likely not experience. I could relate to so many of the things you said.

Sending lots of hugs and prayers your way!

  11. I remember so many of those things too. You are so good at just jotting your random thoughts and making it fun.

The pics are always so good, and your skill at sewing puts me to shame. I don't even sew on buttons! I could sure learn from sitting by your for a day! :)

  14. Oh I share so many of your childhood memories, our grandchildren are living in a different time and that makes me sad. Your daughter looks wonderful and Sam is just a cute as could be.
Hopefully your mom will start feeling better soon. We have dealt with some of the same issues with my SIL as you are with your mom...it can be soooo frustrating, wil be keeping you in prayer

I hope your Mom transitions through this medication change soon
It must be a worry, I know.
You mentioned so many things I remembered from my childhood. But then we are almost the same age!
I'm 57 and my son is turning 39 in JUne.
