IT'S FINALLY HOT!!

Well it is Friday again and we are finally starting to heat up some here in So. California.  Shut up the house and turned on the air yesterday and let me tell you Thank God for air conditioning.  It was a very comfortable 76 in here yesterday as I was sewing.  We are suppose to hit a 100 or so for the next couple of days at least, and then maybe by mid week cool back off into the 80's.  Hope that lasts for a while.  Not a whole lot to catch you up on here as I am in what I call the "dwelling" stage, haha, on the sewing machine saga.  I have gathered all my facts, prayed about it, and now I will just mull it over for a while in my mind.  I did find out that the stitch regulator is NOT included in my original deal, however, she told me she would include one (for a few more hundred of course!) and my total would still be well over 1700 dollars less than somewhere else, so it is still a pretty good deal.  But do I really NEED the stitch regulator?  Do I NEED the embroidery thing at all?  These are the questions that need to be answered.  Meanwhile, I have been busy putting the rag quilt together, and let me just say this.  My head has just not been very focused is all I can think of as I have just done one dumb thing after another and have done some ripping out.  Don't even really remember the last time I had to do so much ripping out.  But! I have been having fun using the decorative stitches.  I have ended up putting A LOT of them on this quilt, which I will tell you honestly I ordinarily wouldn't have done.  It is added HOURS  (and I do mean HOURS) of time to the quilt, but I am truly LOVING the way it looks.  It has added a lot of personal touch to the quilt, and has jazzed up (in a subtle way) what would have been a pretty plain quilt otherwise.  I am still thinking the dogs would have been cute, lol.  Just teasing here, actually I have ended up really liking the plainer look.  It is going REALLY slowly however (what with the extra stitching and all the ripping) but I have got 7 rows on now with only 3 more to go.  Then I will just have to clip it and wash it.  I have played around with one nightshirt with a decorative stitch which has let me know I will be adding that to all of those too.  And maybe some to the blankets as well.  I only have 2 more weeks until the shower though so I'd better try and get this all finished up.  Anyway, here is a peek at the quilt.

IT IS REALLY SOFT AND PRETTY, BUT ONCE THE FRAYING PART IS COMPLETED IT WILL CHANGE THIS LOOK YET AGAIN

CAN'T SEE THIS REALLY WELL HERE, BUT I HAVE GONE WITH X'S AND O'S ON THE BLUE SQUARES, AND HEARTS ON THE WHITE FOR THE QUILTING IN ONE OF MY FAVORITE DECORATIVE STITCHES

YOU CAN SEE IT BETTER ON THE BACK

THE EMBELLISHED NECK LINE ON THE NIGHT SHIRT.  IT MIGHT PUT IT AROUND THE BOTTOM OF THE NIGHTY, AND AROUND THE BOTTOM OF THE SLEEVES...STILL "DWELLING" HAHA  ORDINARILY, IF I HAD THE STITCHES AVAILABLE WHEN I WAS MAKING THIS, I WOULD HAVE RUN IT DOWN THE FRONT OF THIS TOO, BUT TOO LATE NOW AS THE SNAPS ARE ALREADY ON.  I GUESS I COULD REMOVE THAT ROW OF SNAPS, PUT IT ON, AND THEN PUT THE SNAPS BACK ON, BUT THAT SEEMS JUST A BIT FANATICAL EVEN TO ME, LOL

My sons and my hubby have left (REALLY early) for Arizona today to spend the day with Jeff's dad who is 84 today!  I am soo happy that they are going to have some real "guy" time together, as with their ages and job responsibilities and families, it just doesn't happen very much anymore.  They were all really looking forward to it.  Meanwhile my sisters are on their ways here and we are going to spend the next couple of days going through mom's things here.  Our house here is small and truthfully I need the extra closet space etc., especially since Melody and her little family are coming the first part of August for a week!  I am soo excited about that.  Mel is still adjusting to life with TWO babies, but she is doing pretty good.

MR GRUMP HERE, HAHA

SAM IS SOO SWEET WITH THE BABY....CALLS HIM "BABY LOOT" HAHA

HANDS PRETTY FULL!
LOVES HIS BIG BROTHER SHIRT!
TIME TO WATER THE FARM!  HE LOVES THIS!

LOVE HIS LITTLE SUMMER OUTFIT!
Hope you all have a wonderful week-end!  Stay cool!  Blessings to you all!  Debbie

  1. Hi Debbie. I read your previous post about the sewing machine info. I couldn't post from my ipad though. I would be in such a dither if I were you! I really want to buy a new machine too. One that is geared towards quilting. So a must have for me would be needle down, large throat space, and decorative stitches, including blanket stitch. I would love to have stitch regulator, but wowie, the price sure goes up, with all of that computer stuff!!! I have a Viking, that I bought from my sewing machine guy. It was old, and heavy metal, like the old Bernina. It has cams that slip into the back and there are many decorative stitches. It is a beautiful machine. I love it. But I still want one with more features. So I wait with bated breath, to see what you choose.
I will be thinking of you and your sisters, as you lovingly go through your Mama's things. I know how hard this is.
    Hugs,
    Kris'
PS Diane's post was so beautifully written. I just wanted to hug her!!

  2. Hi my friend, Wow-you've certainly got a lot of your plate! O.k. for your machine-I think the stitch regulator is important and most machines have it-that way you can determine how many stitches per inch you want. Also maybe just a few decorative stitches are what you'd mainly use-I have tons and don't use them. I can't remember what brand you are looking at, I love my baby lock.
I love the quilt and the clothes and the boys are just adorable.
I know the time with your sisters will be productive but bitter sweet.
    Sending you big hugs today!

  4. Love the quilt, what talent! I'm impressed for sure.

Oh, I bet Mel does have her hands full but those little boys will be best buds in short order.

Have a great weekend and hope all goes smoothly with cleaning out your Mom's stuff.

  5. Oh, your little guys are so precious. Somehow I just knew big brother Sam would be great with "Loot" Luke! How adorable they are! I know Melanie is in seventh heaven as I was with my two at that age! It's great being a mom!

  6. I'm positive that if you prayerfully make the decision about the sewing machine, you will have the wisdom to make the right choice. (I do know exactly what it is like to ponder and pray and then ponder some more. It's the story of my life.)

I love that quilt so far and can't wait to see it completed.

And your new little one is so adorable! I love the Mr. Grump picture. Have you told us his name and I forgot? I know Sam, but I can't remember little one's name.

  8. Those brothers are so cute. And your daughter is looking so well. Motherhood obviously agrees with her! So glad that you'll be having some time...real time...to be together later this summer.

Your sewing looks marvelous. I know you'll make an excellent decision...perhaps The Lord will just whisper it into your ear. That makes it so much easier.

    Stay cool now...

  11. Debbie, I absolutely loved the baby pictures. What a happy and adorable big brother. Oh, the joy of grands! May i just warn you that the time you will spend with your sisters going through your mom's things will be full of mixed feelings. My sisters and I did this together as well. We would find something that brought tears of times gone bye, and then something that left us with tears of laughter. It won't be easy, but if you use this as a time of sharing and honoring your precious mother, then it seems to lighten the occasion and makes it memorable for all of you. Just my thoughts on that, for what they're worth. Thanks for praying for me. I believe I have seen some victories these past few days as God is releasing me from the raw pain of hurt and even anger, and bringing answers. Thank you again, my sweet friend.
