SUMMER DAYS

It is late in the afternoon on Thursday and I decided to go ahead and do my Friday post.  I am pleased that so far I have been sticking to my schedule of Mon, Wed, and Fridays.  I have had dreams of posting a little something almost everyday (like so many of you do!) thinking then my posts wouldn't be so boring long that way, but I just can't seem to pull it off.   But 3 days is pretty good I am thinking.

So let's see, I did get to the fabric store yesterday and purchased enough fabric (I think) to make 8 table runners.  You really don't need much fabric for one, and I chose 8 different fabrics that I think can mix and match pretty well and I only got 1/2 yard of each.  I will eventually have to purchase some muslin for the backing, but I am a ways from that, and there is a sale next week on that.  I still have quite a bit of batting left over from all my rag quilts, so hopefully I will have enough.  I had some good coupons to use yesterday.  I LOVE that Joannes always has coupons going.  All but 1 of these Christmas runners I intend to be used as gifts, so hopefully they come out good enough for that.  ; )  I have two different patterns I am going to try, but they didn't have the template I needed for either one at Joannes. So I drove over to the WONDERFUL quilt shop I discovered the other day (it is called The Calico House and Cranberry Quiltworks in Brea, Kris) and they didn't have them either but I spent another good hour browsing around and getting ideas etc.  I did purchase one of those little panels to make a cloth book for Melody's babies to enjoy when they are here in a couple of weeks.  I went home after that and called every quilt shop that seemed close enough for me to drive over to, and none of them had the templates either.  Soo I ordered them on-line and now I will just have to wait for them to arrive before I can get going.  Meanwhile, I discovered ANOTHER project that looks quick, super easy, and requires just a little bit of quilting, so I went ahead and ordered fabric for that too.  It will be to make up 3 tote bags/purses.  I am thinking the new mommies can put them to good use. The other will be for me.  Soo I have plenty to both keep me busy and yet small enough to practice machine quilting on as soon as it all arrives.  I spent the rest of that afternoon putting the book together.

HERE ARE 4 CHOICES....HOW I WISH I COULD GET BIGGER (OR AT LEAST WIDER) PICTURES ON MY BLOG LIKE SOME OF YOU DO.  I HAVE TRIED AND TRIED.  EVEN TRIED DIFFERENT TEMPLATES ETC.  I OF COURSE CLICK X-LARGE WHEN I AM DOING THIS, AND THEY LOOK BIG WHEN I AM WORKING ON THE POST, BUT THEN THEY END UP SMALLER THAN I WOULD LIKE ON HERE.  I JUST LIKE BIG PICTURES SO YOU CAN SEE THINGS.  MAYBE I AM JUST HAVING A HARD TIME SEEING THINGS ANYMORE, BUT WHATEVER IT IS I WISH I COULD FIX IT.  MEANWHILE THIS WILL HAVE TO DO

AND FOUR MORE.  ALL 8 OF THESE FABRICS BLEND REALLY WELL

LITTLE CLOTH BOOK...SOO CUTE

LOOK AT SOME OF THE INSIDE PAGES

THE BACK OF THE BOOK....I WAS ABLE TO TRIM IT IN A DECORATIVE STITCH
Today I spent the morning running a couple of errands, and since I was already out anyway, I swung by and picked up Jeffie for lunch and an afternoon movie.  I wish my San Diego grands lived close enough to do this with them once in a while too, but I am glad I do get to spend time occasionally with at least this group. Jeff was waiting for me at the gate of their driveway (wasn't anxious or anything) and we had a wonderful time as always.  Went to our favorite fish place for lunch and then saw Despicable Me.  It was really pretty cute.  I intend to do this with him for just as long as I can before it is no longer "cool" do go to the movies with your grandma.  Who knows, maybe it always will be?

THIS IS HOW I FOUND HIM WAITING FOR ME WHEN I DROVE UP.  HOW DARLING IS HE?
HE ALWAYS ORDERS SHRIMP!  LOVES IT!  GRANDMA STUCK WITH A YUMMY SEAFOOD SALAD  WE TAKE TURNS PLAYING THE WORD SEARCH GAME ON THE MENU.  HE DOES IT REALLY WELL, HAHA
Well, that might be it for now.  Sat. two of my sisters and I are going to go over to Virginia's Gift Shop at Knotts Berry Farm as they are browsing at dishes and such with some of their mom money.  Mine may be gone, but I can always help browse, haha.  We are going to have lunch at the Chicken Dinner House.  Haven't been to either of these places in years.  I am trying not to dwell on how much mom loved both of these spots, and would have loved to have gone along with us.  But again, dishes and great chicken are no matches for the glory she is experiencing.  Hope you all have a wonderful week-end!  Stay cool!  It has been REALLY warm here.

  2. I am so excited for you to start quilting~!!! That quilt shop is one of my favorites too! Years ago, when Calico House opened, it was in a very old house, in Yorba Linda, and they had it so cute. I knew the owners. I went to high school with her. They sold a while back. It has gone through many changes since then. But still, a wonderful shop!!
The soft book is darling! And I love the Chicken Restaurant at Knott's. My Mother in law worked there as a young woman. Her photo is on the wall. That Jeffie is such a darling boy. Soak it all in, and enjoy it as long as it lasts.
Have fun tomorrow with your sisters!!

  3. About 3x/week is all I can do -- usually MWF, too. I'd rather quilt or spend time with my grands. ;-)

Thanks for sharing your fabrics ... they're so pretty ... I can't wait to see them transformed into runners. How blessed the recipients will be.

  4. Very pretty and festive fabrics...I had to take a closer look to see them really well. That's when I saw the golds and silvers woven in for some extra shine. You're going to have so much fun working with these.

Yup, he's a cutie! And if he's as smart as he looks, he's going to always want to do lunch and a movie! = D

Have fun with your sisters! How pleased your mother would be if The Lord let her know that you're all together doing some fun things that she used to enjoy. Hope that He might let you know what she's up to today, too. I can't tell you how often I think of someone new that my mother is sitting down with over a cup of heavenly coffee.

  5. The pic of your grandson waiting for you is too cute, keep seizing those moments, they will be great memories for him (even when it's not cool to go out with grandma) Looking at your fabrics makes me realize that if I want to make gifts for Christmas now would be the time to start planning....I have never seemed to get that..lol Hope you have a nice weekend, it is hot, hot, hot here

  6. Your pictures look nice and large to me! Really, they do. That's one thing I love about your posts. They are so well illustrated.

Jeffie remains just adorable to me, and it's amazing how much he has grown up since I first started reading here.

Loved those books, btw! You do such great things, and I'm glad you spent your money the way you did.

  7. Looks like you have some good projects to keep you busy, but so fun to read about your lunch and movie date with your grandson....I'm doing a little date with my grand daughter today. You are right...those days will pass all to fast...and we may not stay 'cool' but I think we will always be loved:) Wishing you and the sisters a wonderful time together.....I hear you about missing your mom....take time for those memories to linger on. Enjoy your day!

  8. I have been so lax in my posting. I try like you to post something everyday but then I don't know what happens. I run out of ideas, get bored and end up not posting for weeks at a time. Maybe I"ll do as you do and only post like 3 days a week an see if that helps.

Oh my gosh I ADORE those books!. They are lovely! Your grandson is beautiful :)

  9. You are busy Deb! I love how you spend time individually with your grandchildren. And you have many so it must be a challenge to do so. But I'm sure each one of them feels special with you.

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie
