A BUSY, BUSY, LAST FEW DAYS....

Well here we are to another Monday morning morning MID WAY through August already!  Time is just flying by.....I haven't posted in a almost a week.  Had to go through my usual post Mel trip slump, and I am happy to report that not only am I past that, I am becoming accomplished at focusing my head on doing just that.  I kept myself busy with some sewing so let me show you my latest projects first...

MADE A FEW MORE PURSES OUT OF THIS CHARM PACK OF FABRICS...THIS ONE IS LEAH'S.  I DECIDED TO ADD A VELCRO CLOSING ON IT..WISH I HAD DONE IT ON ALL OF THEM.  NOW THAT MY CHARM PACK IS GONE I REALIZE I DIDN'T MAKE ONE FOR MYSELF, HAHA, GUESS I WILL HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER CHARM PACK!  GOOD THING THEY ARE ONLY 9 DOLLARS, AND I AM ABLE TO GET 3 OR 4 PURSES OUT OF THEM!

I MADE UP THESE LITTLE APRONS FOR CAPRI AND DONATELLA.  I HAD FOUND THIS DARLING LITTLE CHARM PACK OF FABRIC, AND HAD TO COME UP WITH SOMETHING TO MAKE WITH THEM, HAHA,  I THOUGHT I WAS QUITE CREATIVE AS I JUST PUT THESE TOGETHER WITHOUT A PATTERN...A FIRST FOR THIS GRANDMA, I GUESS OF COURSE UNLESS YOU COUNT THE NIGHTSHIRTS.
GOT A PIC OF DONATELLA'S IN HERS...I WAS AFRAID THE LENGTH WASN'T RIGHT, BUT IT LOOKS PERFECT!

AND I FINISHED UP THIS RUNNER WITH THE SIDE PIECES...I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST WHAT IT NEEDED
Soo, as you can see I was pretty busy.  On Sat. hubby and I decided to go over and pick up a couple of our grands and took them to lunch and to see the new kid movie Planes.  This was a first time adventure with us for little Cody.  He is my oldest son's youngest son who was recently tested for various different things to see why his speech is SEVERELY delayed.  They have decided he has a significant (as they called it) speech delay, and some very slight autistic behaviors.  Not sure what all of that means as they say he is not really autistic, but does have some behaviors of it, which puts him on the VERY low end spectrum of it I guess. (which personally makes no sense to me, but what do I know!?) Bottom line he will begin a special ed class 4 mornings a week starting next Monday, and will probably remain in this class for at least a couple of years. MEANWHILE, his speech has dramatically improved in the last few months and he is talking more and more.  He has also become VERY comfortable with Grandpa and I so we decided to give it a whirl with an outing with us.  He did great!  The boys both loved the movies, and we thought it was pretty cute too.

JEFFIE AND CODY....CODY WAS SOO BUSY LOOKING AT EVERYTHING HE NEVER DID LOOK AT THE CAMERA, HAHA,  THIS WAS THE BEST ONE

SNACKING DURING THE MOVIE!
After the movie, as we were taking Cody back home, he randomly said, "Thank you for planes Grandma!" It just melted my heart let me tell you.  We dropped Cody off, Jeffie came with us to do a little back to school shopping and to spend the night at our house.  There is a VERY long story about this shopping trip, but I will spare you haha, and tell you only that Grandpa ended up in the final store with him alone as Grandma's knees were DONE.  They kept in touch with me in the car via the phone, complete with occasional pics so I could see how things fit etc. but they were basically on their own.  Grandpa went a little nuts is all I will say, haha. Jeffie is a very thin and tall little boy and finding jeans to fit him is a DEFINITE challenge.  I told Grandpa you must find SLIM jeans (not skinny ~ that just means skinny legs) AND they must have adjustable waists as well or they are still TOO big.  Now he could wear a belt, but Jeffie hates them for some reason.  And they must LOOK like they are a little too long, not like they fit just right because then after you wash them they are too short.  A LOT to remember for a Grandpa who doesn't even do his own clothes shopping, haha.  But he did great!  Once he found some that fit he bought several pairs (they were on sale!) and several shirts, and a jacket!  I asked why the jacket, and he said because it was 60 percent off!  Of course I reminded him that it was only August, lol,  Everything was a great selection though a couple of the shirts were WAY too long.  Grandma just cut those off and hemmed them up though and we are good to go.

RELAXING AFTER SHOPPING WITH ELVIS

COULD BARELY CARRY ALL HIS BAGS, HAHA
We spent the rest of the evening playing board games, watching Free Willy 3, and eating barbequed burgers and french fries.  Jeffie ate soo much I told him he must put it in hallow legs, lol.  He must be growing even more!  We always enjoy our time with this little guy.

On Sunday (yes there is more, sorry this is a LONG one!) we went to San Diego to church and my oldest son's family came as well as we were all going to the beach afterwards.  Summertime is almost over and we had not had our annual Class family beach day yet, so we decided to make it happen.  Every one of my kids, and now their kids, LOVE LOVE LOVE the beach.  It is just our favorite place to go.  Now they had all made several trips to the beach this summer, but NOT all together, and NOT with us.  After my last beach trip in July for my brother's birthday and my horrifying knee experience I honestly didn't think I could make myself go.  But my sons convinced me that this particular beach would require VERY little sand walking, and what sand there is was pretty hard packed making it easier etc.  I am sooo glad I listened to them and decided to go because they were soo right, and it was just a beautiful day!  The weather was GORGEOUS and the day just couldn't have been better.  How grateful I am to live in such a beautiful place, where beach trips are a short, simple car drive away.  I tried to nip the pictures down as I know this is LONG already, but what can I say, there were soo many good ones.

AFTER CHURCH WITH JAMES, JOE, AND MY 3 OLDEST GRAND CHILDREN, EVAN, LINDSEY AND ANNABEL
THE BEAUTIFUL PACIFIC OCEAN AT DEL MAR, CA

PROUD OF THEIR SWIMMING HOLE THEY DUG, HAHA

THESE 3 COULD SWIM IN THE WAVES FOR HOURS I THINK

ANNABEL HELPED TELLA MAKING HER SAND CASTLES

TELLA WAS QUITE BRAVE AND FEARLESS AND WENT OUT TO THE BIG WAVES WITH HER OLDER COUSINS!

THESE TWO ARE DARLING TOGETHER.  (ONLY 10 DAYS APART!) I LOVE THIS PICTURE!

CAUGHT IN A WAVE

JD AND JEFFIE WORKED HARD TO DIG THE CANAL TO THEIR SWIMMING HOLE, AND WERE SUCCESSFUL!
GOOD JOB!

JOE WAS EXHAUSTED AFTER HIS SWIM, HAHA

THEIR HOLE FULL OF WATER!  WORKED WONDERFULLY WHEN THE TIDE CAME IN

AT WORK DIGGING!

JUST HAD TO SHOW YOU THIS PIC OF MELODY'S HUSBAND MIKE.  HE WAS WATCHING THE TWO KIDS WHILE MEL RAN A QUICK ERRAND, AND SHE CAME HOME TO FIND THIS.  SUPER DAD HUH? HAHA  I LOVED IT!

All in all it has been a wonderful last few days and how grateful I TRULY am.  I have a busy week lined up this week too....more sewing, a day at the hair salon with Annabel, another sewing class with my new machine, more sewing, AND! box tickets to see Taylor Swift with Lindsey, Annabel, Leah and hubby and I on Friday! (more about this later!) and did I mention MORE sewing? haha  Hope you all have a WONDERFUL week!  Enjoy these last couple of weeks of summer, and many blessings to you all!

  5. What a wonderful, photo filled and fun filled post, Debbie! All your time with your grandchildren looks so fun to me. I want to be you someday!

My favorite part of the post was where little Cody started talking and thanked you for Planes. Sometimes, it just takes a while for the cork to come out. I hope he starts talking so much they write "chatterbox" on his report!

  7. You are such a good grandma Debbie. I enjoy seeing all of the pictures. Being in land locked Phoenix causes me to pine for the beach. I grew up living across the street from the canal and the Great South Bay on Long Island. I love the photo of Mel's husband; what a guy or dad I should say.

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie

  11. Hi Debbie, Great job on your sewing projects-you will be stitching up a storm very soon. I wanted to share that one of our granddaughters has had similar problems as your Cody. She was diagnosed when she wasn't quite two-not Autism but on the spectrum. She has some therapist for a year and a half. I just want to encourage you-our little Peanut is so remarkable. She is 6 yrs old, very very bright and is doing 1st-2nd grade work for school. She has made tremendous strides forward, still has some challenges but it is truly a miracle.
Thanks for sharing the beach photos-we will be back in Ca. in a couple of weeks and I can't wait to see the ocean.
    Hugs, Noreen
