MY "LABOR" DAY!

It has been a nice 3 day week-end, though we didn't do much that was too terribly exciting. Sometimes those are the best of all though aren't they?  Sat. was spent leisurely enjoying lunch out, and then enjoying a movie with my hubby. We saw the Butler, and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Soo relaxing. Then we came home and spent the rest of the evening dozing on and off while we pretending to be watching TV, haha.  Sun., after church, I sat down at the sewing machine to "ATTEMPT" putting my little design on a t-shirt for Sam....I almost can't even bear to tell the story.  EVERYTHING that could go wrong did, and figuring out how to do it all without the teacher hovering near made it WAY WAY worse than I thought...sigh.  Oh my goodness was I ever frustrated.  Every little thing about it was sooo fiddly.  Now to be fair the teacher did warn me that putting embroidery on a t-shirt comes with it's own set of challenges, and she hinted that I might want to start with something else.  Well, truthfully, t-shrits are what I have been most interested in doing in the first place, so I decided I might as well dive in.  Well, needles broke, I had to rip out the side seams of the shirt to even get it onto my hoop, I had major thread jams, I was stuck numerous times where the machine stopped and I had no idea why, and on and on and on it went.  At one point, after I had finally completed it, I tried to take it from the machine, giddy that I had actually done it, only to discover that I had somehow caught one of the little sleeves behind the hoop and stitched it firmly in place with the embroidery!  The only way to get if off of the machine was to cut it!  sigh again...loudly. Truthfully I just began laughing hysterically because what else are you going to do?  It was better than bursting into tears.   At that point my middle son was do to be here for his birthday dinner so I put it all away and tried to dismiss it from my frustrated mind.  We had SUCH a nice dinner and evening with him and his girlfriend, it was easy, and I was completely distracted.

JOHN AND JESSICA
This was the second time we have been able to spend some time with this new girl friend, and I have decided that I really like her.  She is a very sweet girl, and seems to be his match in many ways.  I am praying that John might find some happiness with her, and who knows might even settle down and marry her and have a kid or two,  haha.  Not really rushing anything honestly, but at 37 I think it's time he gets on it.

Today my sweet hubby drug out our Fall decs from our storage shed and between the two of us we made quick work of getting it all set out.  I know it might seem a little early, but I love my Fall things, and after all it is Sept.!  After that I decided to attempt ANOTHER t-shirt.  Now I guess you should know that this will be my third t-shirt!!  I did buy them at Joannes for 3 dollars a piece, so it isn't that bad, and I have to learn some way, but it is kind of bugging me to be wasting them.   Anyway, a couple hours later it is on!  Now technically it is too low on the shirt, and I have no idea how to get the stabilizer off of the back of it, but it is on!  I haven't decided for sure my next move.  I think I may have to make a trip over to the store tomorrow and see if the teacher is there or maybe another clerk who can help or show me how to do this.  And I MIGHT just pretend like I don't notice it is too low. But knowing me the way I know me, I won't be surprised if I do one more so I can put it where I want to.....somehow.  And I am not going to lie, I haven't decided for sure that I might just see if they will let me trade down and just give up on the embroidery machine AND the stitch regulator etc. altogether.  I am feeling like I might be kidding myself that this is something I am going to enjoy.  It is REALLY REALLY fiddly, and I am just not the sharpest crayon.  But I am also pretty stubborn, and I don't know if I am ready to throw in the towel on this yet or not.  Sooo, that's my tee- shirt story.  Oh, and it is ever so slightly puckery, and I still need to sew the side seams back together again.

IF I COULD JUST MOVE THE WHOLE DESIGN UP A COUPLE OF INCHES I'D BE SOO PLEASED! HAHA

Meanwhile I have put a meat loaf in the over and hubby and I are going to relax and enjoy the rest of this quiet labor day week-end.  Hope you all had a wonderful one!

  1. Oh, I'd be pulling my hair out and you just keep plugging along. Good for you! The shirt is so cute and I wouldn't have noticed that it was a little low if you hadn't mentioned it.

I'm thinking about fall but won't get my stuff out for another couple of weeks.

    Happy September!

  2. Gosh, I think it looks very good. It is beautifully centered. I like the description of tv viewing at your house. Sounds a little like tv viewing at mine.

  4. I applaud your persistence Deb. I would have given up. But the shirt is very cute. I always love to hear what movies you enjoy as it's been so long since I've been to one. The Butler sounded good to me so glad to read you liked it. Have a great week!

    Blessings and love,

  8. Let's just say that sewing machines and I don't get along too well. Oh, how I've tried and I've almost always ended up in tears or wanting to toss the thing out the window! I think your t-shirt looks awesome and I give you big kudos for a job well done!

  9. I wold have never noticed the placement of the embroidery had you not mentioned it.

If I don't have something to work on, when sitting in the recliner after dinner, I'll fall asleep. Of course, I'm up at 4:30AM, so I shouldn't be too surprised that I'm getting tired by 8:00. ha!
