CATCH UP....FALL DECORATIONS

I had GOOD intentions about getting more posts up last week, but it just didn't happen.  Not even sure why.  I had a pretty uneventful week too so I've nothing to blame.  I did get back to my sewing machine and made up a few things I have been wanting to play with.  I know that I should be getting busy on my Christmas sewing, but haven't started even yet.  You know how on facebook they put up those go back and share your memories thing from a year ago or more?  Well, I had a few of them recently that showed me what I was doing last year at this time, and honestly I was somewhat horrified.  I had many bunches of ornaments, and had completed an entire embroidered advent calendar and was started on another, and had a real start on things.  In addition to that I had made some quilted Fall trees, and embroidered a scripture pic and the list goes on.  What on earth have I been doing?  lol  Or maybe I was just too carried away last year, lol.  Anyway, let me tell you about what I HAVE done.  I don't know if I mentioned that when I made that last pair of little fabric shoes for Claire....and they were SOO cute on her and fit her perfectly.....that I immediately wanted to make some more.  When I mentioned this to Mel she told me, "well, if you really want to make some more, why don't you make some out of denim.  That way they will go with LOTS of her outfits, and should be really cute." Assuring her I could do that, I secretly thought....how boring, lol.  Too plain.  I want to do something more.  I thought what I really wanted to do was maybe embroider something on the toes of the shoes. But honestly I had NO idea how to go about that, and figured it might be hard hooping something that small, and getting them identical (and they must be!) and on and on went my head, lol.  But one night it occurred to me.....wait!  I know what I will do.  I will hoop a small piece of denim on my 4 x 4 hoop, and after the design is complete I will fussy cut the toe piece out making sure everything is right where it should be.  Now maybe to some this would have seemed like, OF COURSE this is way you should do it, but I am not always the quickest thinker, lol.  Anyway, I had some denim left over from something (you don't need much of course!) the pattern, and a small little grey/blue gingham fabric for the lining of the shoes.  Now something else I wanted to do different, or really better I guess, was to make the sole of the shoe out of REAL leather so it would be more durable.  But I was pretty sure Joanne's didn't carry real leather, and it is kind of pricey to order online.  So I asked about it when I was in Joanne's and come to find out they DO carry it in small little squares back in the craft section.  Sooo I found a piece of creamy colored tan suede leather in a piece big enough to make two whole pairs of shoes!  And even though it did seem pricey too (8.99 for the little square!) I had a 60 percent off coupon I whipped out making it seem really reasonable.  Soo all I needed now was a design that thought would work in a small area and be really cute.  I found what I considered to be perfect and finally got busy.  I just couldn't have been more pleased with how they came out.  I made up a pair of leggings too, bumping the pattern size up to an 18 to 24 month!  She is getting big.  I have a couple more pieces of knit I am going to make some more, and the good news is there is enough of ALL of it to make leggings for Sophia too.  Sooooo after all of this build up, let me show you the shoes....

HARD TO TELL HERE BUT I USED A LIGHT LAVENDER THREAD....LOVE THE DESIGN
THE LEATHER SUEDE SOLE
CLOSER LOOK AT LINING

JUST A CLOSER LOOK SO THAT YOU CAN SEE THE SMALLER MUSICAL NOTES TOO...REALLY LOVED THIS DESIGN

LITTLE LAVENDER LEGGINGS
Other then that I have been working on Bible Covers for 3 of my grandkids as their parents got them new bibles, and their mama wanted a way for them to carry them back and forth to church and school without messing them up.  I've made two so far so I can show you those, and plan on making the final one tomorrow.

THE FIRST ONE IS FOR 11 YEAR OLD CAPRI....SHE ENJOYS A TIE DYE LOOK SO I THOUGHT THIS FABRIC SEEMED PERFECT

A CLOSE UP LOOK AT THE DIAMOND GRID QUILTING I DID, AND THEN I ADDED A CUTE LITTLE LABEL I HAD AND USED THE ALPHABET FONT ON MY DECORATIVE STITCHES TO PUT HER NAME ON IT

HERE'S THE INSIDE AND THE BOOK COVER FLAPS....SUCH CUTE FABRIC I THOUGHT AND I HAD JUST ENOUGH

ANOTHER DECORATIVE STITCH ADDED THE BUTTERFLY'S TO THE HANDLES

AND THE BUTTON GLITTERS!  SOO CUTE!

AND THIS IS ALMOST 10 YEAR OLD JD'S.....I REALLY LIKE THE BOYISH TYPE FABRIC I FOUND, AND I QUILTED IN A TRIPLE STITCH STRAIGHT STITCH WHICH GAVE IT A TOTALLY DIFFERENT LOOK

A CLOSE UP ON THE INSIDE BOOK FLAPS...I REALLY LOVE THIS FABRIC AND DID CONSIDER IT FOR THE OUTSIDE COVER, BUT CONSIDERING IT HAS SOO MUCH WHITE IN IT I DECIDED IT WOULD BE DUMB, AS IT WAS SURE TO BE DIRTY QUICKLY, LOL

SORRY THIS IS BLURRED BUT YOU CAN SEE HOW I PUT HIS NAME ON IT JUST KIND OF WINGING IT WITH THE TRIPLE DECORATIVE STITCH...NOT PERFECT, BUT IT WILL WORK.

I have been having such a good time making these.  I am thinking I might embroidery the front of Donatella's, and make them all a book marker too.  Between the shoes, and the leggings, and these book covers, it's just what I have been in the mood for, but I do think I might have to begin all the Christmas sewing on my list now if I have any hope of getting it all done by Thanksgiving.

I do have some exciting news to tell too!  One of my younger sisters has twin 26 year old sons.  They are the brothers of my hair stylists Jessie (whose Melody's best friend) whose house we have our Sunday fellowship at.  Anyway, we have been praying for both of these boys salvation's for a while now.  Well, God is faithful and has answered our prayers, as Anthony went forward at the Harvest Crusade here last Sunday night and gave his heart to the Lord. How excited we have all been by this! He will join us now at the Sunday fellowship, and I am just soo pleased.  It's always exciting to see God work.

I did get up all the Fall decor this last week-end, and I am enjoying it all as always.  Can hardly believe it is almost the first of September.  Hope you are all having a good week.  Blessings to you all!  Debbie

  1. Your friend is so blessed to have a friend like you. Those denim moccasins are precious. Beautiful job. Everything else you pictured is lovely, too. The Bible covers. Your home must be fairly bursting with great stuff! Your fall decorations are beautiful. I love reading stories about prayers being answered and people coming to Jesus. That's fabulous and encouragement to all of us who pray for loved ones to be saved.

  2. Debbie, you were crazy busy last year. I'm inclined to think that you know more what you are doing this year and it's not going to take you anywhere near as long. Oh I do love those denim shoes...darling! People are going to wonder where they can purchase them. And the Bible covers are wonderful. I should make myself a cover for mine...it's falling apart. Hope that the autumn decorating makes the house feel cooler.
