Well it is already 9:30 am Monday morning and I am behind schedule, haha. I always have soo many things I want to do before mom gets back that honestly I know there is no way that I can, but I do try. All this to say, I am going to try to make this brief so I can get cracking.
Saturday was just a glorious day. There is really no other way to describe it. The weather was so warm and nice that I had on capri pants, sandals, and a short sleeved light weight top. I had talked my sister Diane into meeting me at JoAnne's Fabric store as I really wanted her opinion on the blending of my fabrics for the rag quilts. The sale on the fabrics was still in progress, and now I had several coupons that I could use as well. Diane is just flat out good at things like that, and I was excited she was able to come. Her daughter Michelle is half way through her chemo treatments and is doing OK, but she certainly has her bad days and her good, and with her 3 small children Diane has been soo busy helping her out that she doesn't have much spare time at all. It didn't take long at all and we had chosen the fabrics that I will use. I also bought a few quilting tools to help me measure and a pair of spring loaded scissors to cut all the fringe. Again, I got such good deals on everything it made it seem just that much better. I bought some fabric too for more burp cloths etc. I really do have somewhat of a problem with fabric, haha. It just draws me like you can't imagine. Diane and I enjoyed our time together, and we left. Jeff (who sat in the car and caught up with his dad on the phone while we shopped ~ such a good guy!) and I then had lunch over at my favorite fish restaurant, and then we headed over to Joe's grand opening. It all looked sooo good, and went soo well! I was soo happy for them as they have all worked soo hard at it. The fire department was there with a huge ladder truck for the kids to see, and 4 fireman to give the kids safety tips and suggestions in case of a fire. One of the firemen put on his full gear and explained to the kids how in a real fire this is how they look. And how their voice sounds through the breathing equipment. Which is really kind of scary for young kids. He told us adults you'd be surprised how often in a fire where children are involved they are frightened of the equipment and actually HIDE from the fireman. Never thought of this before, but it made such good sense. The kids looked at everything up close and personal, and were able to ask questions etc. After the fireman left Joe then put the kids through about an hour of instructions and teachings of what to do if confronted with a stranger. It was really good! The kids all just loved it and got to break a board at the end of the class. It was soo weird for me to sit back and observe my son "doing his thing" with the kids. He was just soo good (sorry I know I sound like a proud mom ~ but hey I guess I am) with the kids. He has a way of getting them to do just what he wants with them engaged and happy while they are doing it. 4 of his brown belt girls came as well and did a few kata demonstrations for everyone to enjoy. My 12 year grand daughter Lindsey usually works the snack bar, but she had a softball game, so my 8 year old grand son Jeffie took over! haha He did a good job! Grandma watched over it as best she could... ; ) My oldest grandson (18 THIS month!) is also a black belt and was there to help out with all the kids, as was another adult blackbelt who also works for Joe helping out. It was just a good day! He did manage to sign up several more kids for future classes (this event on Sat. was a FREE community service STANGER DANGER day) and we were all grateful. Here are a few pictures hubby took...

THIS IS A VIDEO OF SOME OF THE TEACHING!
Figuring out how to put the video on took me WAY longer than I had intended, haha. I think you might enjoy seeing some of it. Sunday was another great day. Church, fellowship, lunch out with James and Larissa and the kids and then a few errands and finally some more relaxation. Just my kind of week-end. Hope yours was all good too! I am going to get off of here and begin cutting out the fabric to make Sam's quilt for his new big boy bed. I will try and take pics of my progress. Enjoy your week!
Congratulations to your son, his studio looks fantastic. I also find it strange watching my adult children "do their thing" I think mainly because I find it hard to believe I have adult children....where did the time go??
ReplyDeleteI am waiting for weather to break here as well seems like the cold gray weather is really hanging on this year.
Hope you week is a good one
Sounds like exciting times for your son and the expansion of his business. The movie isn't showing up on my iPad, but I'll be back to watch another time. Your grands are so cute.
ReplyDeleteYou always have such busy nice weekends. I love all of the pictures and I bet it was so much fun.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you have a nice week and I can't wait to see photos of the big boy blanket.
So glad you enjoyed your weekend and hope you had your ducks back in a row before your Momma got back.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun karate studio!
Can't wait to see pics of your sewing projects. Happy week!
Hi Debbie, Just stopping by to say a quick hi. Loved reading all about your weekend, glad you are getting some warm weather. I'm enjoying the warm Az. Sunshine.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen
I never thought about the full fire suit and voice scaring the kids, but it makes perfect sense. It also made perfect sense to combine the skill of self defense with the fireman demonstration. What a good idea, and I'm glad it yielded results.
ReplyDeleteI'm also glad to hear an update about Michelle. I know that the chemo must be so hard on her, and by extension her whole home. I am so sick of cancer!!
Glad you and your sister had a nice fabric shopping trip. It draws me in like you can't believe too. I get that.
what a wonderful weekend you had!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful time at Joe's grand opening ... nice that there was a good turnout.
I can't wait to see your progress on Sam's quilt.
Fun set of hodgepodge answers. That quilt looks like it is quite the project.
