BUSY BUSY TIMES

I am going to take just a few (hopefully) minutes to post a quick update on what this week has looked like.  I have EVERY minute of this day already accounted for and I am not sure there is enough time to get done what must be done.  Tomorrow is my mom's memorial service, and we have all been very busy making it what we KNOW mom would have liked.  No one loved a family gathering, a party, or "details" quite like Mom.  And being how this celebration and party is all about her, we are doing it up big.  I think I mentioned that one of my biggest assignments was the slide show.  Goodness, try taking 80 years of life and accomplishments, 6 children, 19 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren and squeeze it all into a half hour (or so, haha) slide show.  Just gathering all the pictures was a HUGE ordeal, and then selecting the best, (taking everyone's favorites into account "wink") scanning them, and getting them into my computer, editing them, and then getting them into the program I was using took hours and hours.  I have arranged those pictures, re-arranged, and arranged them again and again trying to get them just right.   And then occasionally I had to stop and take time to weep or laugh as I looked at photos and remembered mom.  I have it all done but the fine tuning however, and should burn it sometime LATE this afternoon.  Meanwhile food was selected and ordered, a HUGE picture collage was also assembled, I had to squeeze in a doctors appointment for me, shopping for a new top and sandals to wear, and getting our car washed (soo dirty after our long drive to Melody's) and the list goes on and on.  My sister Diane and I have a list of things that still needs to be finished today as well, and my sweet niece Jessica still has 12 flower arrangements to put together AFTER she finishes her 10 hour work day today! And I haven't mentioned those who are busy baking mom's favorite cookies to serve, and gathering MANY of the quilts and projects she has made over the years... whew!  But I can see the end in sight, and together we have made a memorial of a woman who we all loved soo much!  I will post the slide show when I finally finish it, mainly so Melody can see it, and maybe pictures of some other things if I get the chance tomorrow.  How I miss my mom!  How she would love to be in the thick of everything with us.  But she is in all of our hearts, all of our thoughts, and will be forever more, as she waits for us in a much better place.  What a party we will have then!  I thought I would post a couple of quick pictures of her.  Enjoy your week-ends.  I have visited here and there where and when I could.  I will hopefully get back into the swing of things soon here in blogland.  I have appreciated and felt your prayers soo much!  Love to you all!  Debbie

And the one of her on the grass with you kids...her toes pointed...she looks like a model! And also the bike...oh, all of them..just wonderful!! How fun to see you as a young girl too!! Your Mom was a true natural beauty! I know you miss her terribly. May you all find the strength tomorrow to enjoy in the celebration of her life!

  5. A beautiful, beautiful woman through and through. How sweet to see all these precious pictures...you're right...she was magazine worthy! Love the first photo with your sister in the itty-bitty bathtub. Your mother was so very proud of her children. That's obvious. And I also enjoyed reading about your preparations as it took me back to our own with my mother. Such a lot of work to be done by so many.

(My mother had a number of warnings that her end of life might be imminent and, after the first, she planned her own memorial service even telling us what day it should be held on, the hymns she wished to have sung, the scriptures she wanted shared, the photos, etc. At one point, I kiddingly asked her if she was planning to bake cookies and freeze them for the gathering after her own service. How she laughed, but she would have done it. I know it.)

Your mom will be so proud of all of you all over again. Much love to you as you gather to celebrate her remarkable life on this earth knowing that she is whole and well and very happy indeed with The Lord.

  6. Oh, my, I can't wait to see the slide show. I am working on one of my Dad's life so that I will have it ready whenever that time comes. I do not think I could do it under pressure, so thought I'd just do a little along. I know it will be a lovely, lovely tribute to your Mom and I bet it was very thraputic for you to do it. Blessings and peace to you!

  8. What a beautiful lady, I agree she was magazine worthy, I especially like the photo of your mom all dressed up and bathing your sister, my mom dresses up for everything even working in her flower beds. By getting to know you these past few years and hearing about her, especially when you two girls played the guys in cards, she truly was a beautiful lady both inside and out. I agree there will be one big party when we all meet again. I am so thankful for that blessed Hope! you and your family remain in my thoughts and prayers.
    Much love,
    Sue

  9. I could cry reading this as it brings back memories of my mom. I think you and I were brought up around the same time frame. I love the photo of your mom bathing your sister looking so nice. That was my mom too. I am sad as you go through this time Debbie. But the hope that we can cling to is that this isn't a permanent good bye. That's what helped me get through that time. I'm sending you hugs through cyberspace. Please know that I am thinking of you and praying for you. May you be comforted by those who love you.

    Love,
    Debbie

What a beautiful lady, and yes, that one of her bathing your sister is priceless and just like a magazine! I am praying for comfort for you and your whole family!

Congratulations on the birth of your new grandson Luke, what a blessing and especially to have such a happy event and a new beautiful life enter your world after losing your mom. I can imagine all the fun Sam and Luke are going to have together and how special it's going to be for you to watch those brothers grow up together! Hugs!

Your Mother was beautiful right up to her passing. It's hard to imagine she was 80.
I know from all you've written she was a beautiful person who loved the Lord too.
You have so...many wonderful memories to ponder and remember now. You were blessed!

  14. I found you from your comment on my personal blog. I so enjoyed seeing the precious photos of your mom and reading about her and your time together as you celebrated her life. She looked so young still in her 80's....and such a pleasant face. One you will remember always. My own mom passes away in 2005, her memories are still dear.
May God be near you in these days of loss.
