Well, I've LOTS to do today so I am going to have to make this quick. Truthfully, I don't know if that is possible with me, "grin" but I am going to give it my best effort.
I FINALLY finished my rag quilt! Goodness! is all I can say. I honestly don't remember the last time something gave me quite the challenge in that sooo many things kept going wrong, haha. After I had FINALLY finished all my decorative stitches (never again on a rag quilt btw, though I DO love the way it looks!) and got it all assembled and on (after SEVERAL MORE mistakes that had to be ripped out and started over ~ I kept putting my heart squares on upside down!) and I FINALLY got the whole thing clipped (only took two and half hours of straight clipping, my thumb was numb no lie!) and got it into the washing machine to "fluff" I was giddy and feeling pretty smug that I hadn't let it defeat me. (I was sooo tempted a couple of times to
pitch the whole thing into the street just lay it aside and NOT make it at all!) But of course pride comes before the fall...haha. I take the thing out of the dryer only to discover my brilliant plan of NOT using flannel this time, but cotton and minky, resulted in a less than "fluffy" look. (minky doesn't fray at all of course!) AND! I used embroidery thread to connect all my squares as I was too
lazy pressed for time to keep switching back and forth between the threads and I guess it wasn't as strong OR I simply clipped into my seams which is entirely possible in my haste, either way the back of the quilt was coming apart in SEVERAL places....sigh...Again, tempted to give the whole quilt the old heave ho, lol. BUT! again, I pressed on and made my "fluffing" even (more clipping) and reconnected several seams, washed and dried it again, and VIOLA! IT IS FINALLY DONE! AND! I am loving it...soft, cuddly (I finally agree it is probably better without the dog print, haha) and a definite labor of love. I am soo looking forward to Mr. Vincent James laying on that quilt! Soo here it is in all it's glory...(though honestly, it is MUCH better in person! lol)

LOVE HOW THE NAME LOOKS |

THE SATIN X's AND O's AND HEARTS! THIS IS ONE QUILT WHERE THE BACK OF IT MAY BE JUST AS GOOD AS THE FRONT, HAHA |

KIND OF HARD TO SEE BUT I TRIED HARD TO GET A GOOD CLOSE LOOK! |
Then, yesterday I had to make a trip BACK to the dentist as the tooth I had recently had the root canal on was kind of bothering me...sigh. But after a little filing on both top and bottom to make it "sit" a little better, it seems as though all is well again. I sure hope so. Anyway, it was well into the afternoon before I finally got back to my sewing machine, and I began "embellishing" some of the nightshirts and receiving blankets with some embroidery stitches. I LOVE it! Just the little added something they needed in my opinion. I only got to a couple, but I do have another week to finish it all up. Here is a peek at that..

IF I GET THE TIME I MIGHT ADD A LITTLE APPLIQUED DUCK TO THE FRONT OF THIS AS WELL...IT'S SOO SOFT! |

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE STITCHING! |
Soo now today I have to give my oldest son a ride to pick up his car, shop for a birthday present for my dil, grocery shop for food for the 4th of July celebrations, get Jeffie a hair cut (looking forward to seeing him!) AND get my hands and feet done...so I'd best get cracking. We are all gathering at my oldest son's house tomorrow for a day of swimming, barbecuing, games and finally fireworks! Happy Independence Day to all of you! God Bless America!
The rag quilt is darling!!! And the decorative stitching on the other one is just perfect. I hate it when we have nothing but problems with something. I am working a quilt now that is giving me fits!!!

OK, so here's what I have to say about all of this: You really do deserve a nice sewing machine. I was thinking that as I scrolled through and had that schmancy one on my mind.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you didn't give the quilt the old heave ho because I really love it, and that nighshirt is adorable.
Gifted. That's what you are.
