MERRY CHRISTMAS

Luke 2:11-14  "For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.  And this will be a sign to you; you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger."  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:  "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.

I have been reading this portion of scripture at Christmastime ever since I was a young girl, and I never get tired of reflecting on it all.    As I have gotten older I have thought about what it might have been like to have been Mary's mother.  Here is your young, unmarried daughter, out traveling a long distance from home, about to give birth without you around to help.  Or any other woman for that matter.  How anxious she must have been.  Or to be Mary herself.  Suddenly finding yourself ready to give birth to who you KNEW to be the promised Messiah, and yet unable to find any place to be except for an old stable full of animals.  Or Joseph...here was a young man doing his best to find a place for his young betrothed wife to give birth, no doubt anxious and concerned, and wishing there was some place else to go.  And yet, it was all as it was suppose to be.  God's Son, the King of kings, came into this world in a lowly manger in Bethlehem to save us all from our sins.  I love to think of what the sight and sound of those angles praising God that night might have been like.  Unbelievably glorious I imagine.

The angels are rejoicing over the reconciliation between God and His eternally beloved creation!

I want to wish all of my blogging friends a glorious and joy filled Christmas!  Enjoy the time spent with your family and friends, and my prayer would be that we all grow closer to Him in the coming year.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

  1. Oh thank you for that, I never thought about Mary's mother. That is something good to reflect on today, while I am baking.

  2. This is something I've never given thought to, Debbie. I have of course thought of Mary and Joseph but not Mary's mother. The Holy Spirit had to be working among all of them for it to have all come to pass as it did. All was in God's plan and timing. So wonderful.
My prayer for all of us is also to grow closer to the Lord in 2012. If we seek Him we will surely find Him--He promised!
    Have a beautiful Christmas!
