I have definitely enjoyed one of my busy/relaxing weeks this week for sure, lol. I have done quite a bit of sewing, and yet nothing that kept me sitting there for very long. My neck is at least 95 percent better, so I guess I am at least resting enough for it to improve...slow, but sure. I decided to start this week by making a new casual type shirt for my hubby. I used to make them FREQUENTLY for him, to include even some country/western ones to wear when we went dancing, but that's another story, lol. I found a new pattern (don't know what happened to all the ones I used to have....must have been "purged" when we were moving here) as McCall patterns were 5 for 7 dollars. I LOVE it when they put patterns on sale like this and try to stock up when they do. Patterns can be soo expensive otherwise. Anyway, I got my pattern and then went to the quilting store and found a REALLY nice cotton to make up the shirt. I discovered a long time ago that shirts for him do much better when I spend a little extra money and get some GOOD fabric. Anyway, it went way faster then I thought it might, and a couple hours later I was sewing on the last button. Hubby LOVES it, but it might be a little bigger then it needs to be. I kind of remembered then that I used to alter a few things here and there for a perfect fit, but it's close enough, lol. If I make another (and I probably will) I will adjust it a tiny bit. Here is the shirt...

IT'S AS USUAL A LITTLE HARD TO SEE, BUT I REALLY LOVED THIS FABRIC. PERFECT COLOR FOR HUBBY AS HE HAS LIGHT BLUE EYES |
|
A CLOSE UP SO YOU CAN SEE (I HOPE!) THE TOP STITCH I USED ON THE COLLAR, AND THE HEM OF THE SLEEVES AND BOTTOM OF THE SHIRT. MY NEW MACHINE DOES SUCH A NICE TOP STITCH. I HAVE USED IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN ALREADY. |
And then since the children's knit fabric was still on sale I decided to make up another couple of dresses for my grand daughters. They loved the first ones, and honestly Grandma doesn't need any more excuse than that. Seriously though these dresses are perfect for spring/summer, and are sooo easy to make. So here are there new ones. Just as a warning, I DID NOT get good pictures...sigh. I know, I know, I KEEP saying I am going to drag out the new camera, but that phone camera is soo convenient..

TELLA'S DRESS...SOO SWEET I DID SHORTEN IT BY 1 INCH FROM LAST TIME. |
|
CLOSER LOOK AT THIS DARLING FABRIC, THOUGH IT IS STILL HARD TO SEE...LITTLE FLOWERS AND PINK LADYBUGS! |
|
CAPRI'S. I LEFT THIS ONE THE SAME LENGTH...PRETEND THIS ISN'T BLURRY, LOL |
|
CLOSER LOOK AT FABRIC |
I do have to tell a small story about Capri's dress. For SOME reason the fabric on her dress was somewhat of a nightmare. Not sure why. It was the EXACT same kind fabric as the other dresses, (100 percent cotton knit) though it was from another line, which shouldn't make any difference. Same price too. But for some reason right from the start it gave me problems. Truthfully, it was curling weirdly before I even cut it out. I kept trying to smooth it out and the ends would curl up. I even tried pressing it down, and it didn't seem to matter. Knit fabric just does that some time, so I just pressed on, pretending it wasn't happening. But then...when I went to put the neck piece on it stretched WAY too much and TOO easily, and curled and was a general nightmare. I actually ended up started ALL over cutting out a new bodice and new neck piece (thankfully I had enough fabric to do so). Now, if you have sewn much with knit fabric you know that it stretches and moves and some people REALLY don't care for it. I have never have too much trouble with it, though it CAN be a little tricky. Well....the story goes on. I ended up removing that neck piece and starting again 3 times before it was finally on there to suit me. And honestly? I still wasn't 100 percent happy with it. And the weirdest part of all? All 3 of the other dresses it was a total non-event putting on the neck piece. I had it on in less than 10 minutes. Weird...it HAD to be that particular fabric. Don't think I will use that line again.
I just have to show you a picture of little Sam with the Easter bunny and tell you a quick story about that. I guess earlier in the week Melody was looking through her phone on Facebook and showing Sam pictures of friends of hers kids who were with the Easter Bunny. Sam was VERY interested in just who this Easter bunny is and the pictures etc. Finally he says, "My (he refers to himself as "my" soo cute) take picture with the Easter Bunny too Mama?" Well she tried to discourage him a bit from the idea as the closest mall to her is almost 2 hours away. Kind of hard to do with 2 babies. But Sam persisted and so Melody called a girl friend and decided to meet at the mall for lunch and visit to the Easter Bunny with their babies. All went well until her two saw the Bunny. Luke clung to her like a clam and wanted NOTHING to do with it, and Sam looked a little overwhelmed himself. But he went bravely up and sat right down and the look on his face says it all..."Hurry up and get this picture, because I am not sure I like him after-all" haha. It is just ADORABLE in this humble grandma's opinion.

SOO PROUD OF HIMSELF! |
|
LUKE FOLLOWS SAM EVERYWHERE! |
|
SOMETIMES OF COURSE THIS IS AN ISSUE FOR SAM AS IN THIS CASE WHEN HE REALLY DOESN'T WANT LITTLE BROTHER TOUCHING HIS TRAIN |
|
BUT IN THIS CASE SAM HELPED LUKE GET UP AND THEN LET GO AND WAS SOO HAPPY FOR HIM WHEN HE STOOD THERE ON HIS OWN....LUKE IS TAKING A STEP HERE AND THERE NOW. |
A cute little video of Sam singing the B I B L E, lol ENJOY!
Time continues to march on and the seasons come and go just as they should. I love this about God's creation. There is something about every season that I love (as well as dislike, but we aren't going there, lol) so there is always something to enjoy and something to look forward to. I know for MANY this has been a particularly long, hard winter so the warmer days, blue skies, blooming flowers and singing birds are especially welcome. I do know that even though our winter was especially mild this year, spring time is ALWAYS welcome for me. I am enjoying the longer days, the warm afternoons but still cooler evenings and mornings, and am soo looking forward to Easter morning as always. We will gather together in a big open area in the center of the plaza in downtown Escondido for service. I know the worship music will be especially joyful and the message will be powerful. I have been praying that many come to know the Lord that morning. The fellowship afterwards will no doubt be sweet, and my heart is eager for it all. Afterwards we will drive up to my oldest sons house to gather for dinner, and time with children and grandchildren. Doesn't get a whole lot better. How blessed I really am sometimes is hard to contain. Wishing you all a blessed and joyful Easter! Debbie
Any gal who makes a shirt for her hubby that he will wear is brilliant! How frustrating to have to redo the dress so many times. Feel free to tell me what line you're not buying. ;>
ReplyDeleteSam looks pretty determined. He was not about to let his mother down after he talked her into it! LOL! Luke is growing like a weed. Amazing that he is already vertical!
You are something else, making a shirt for your Hubby. How cleaver and I love the fabric! And, the girls dresses are just too cute, sorry about the aggravation with the material. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteEaster blessings to you and yours!
What a great job you did on that shirt for your hubby! I did a lot of garment sewing back in the day, and I never did tackle button holes. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThose dresses are sweet ... sorry you had so much trouble with that one fabric. Ugh! Love the picture of Sam with Luke standing on his own - you can just see Sam's excitement.
Wishing you Easter blessings!
You are so gifted! Making a shirt for your husband, especially one so nice looking like this one, is impressive! I love seeing all that you sew. And, I love when little ones sing the B-I-B-L-E. So cute!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a joyous Easter! Your family is so blessed to have you in their lives.
Have a lovely day and I am so blown a ways that you can make men's shirts. That is such a great shirt and the top stitching is wonderful. I so need to make my grand girls some dresses. I do enjoy sewing clothes, I need to get back into that.
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures of the boys,so nice they enjoy each other so much I love that. Have a wonderful day with your kids and grands. I am so glad today is so perfect. Blessing to you.
I have only known one other person who could sew a man's shirt and that was a sister in law. This is great. Your talent amazes me, Debbie. The pictures of the boys are so sweet. I know they aren't twins but they certainly favor each other enough to be!
ReplyDeleteHope you all are having a wonderful Easter!
Hugs~
This post was so full of goodness! I love the things you make for your family. (Interesting about the difference in fabrics). They are so blessed to have you.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of the whole post was the video. He is so adorable.
I hope you had a most blessed Easter.
I bet you all had a wonderful Easter day together, Debbie!
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed the video of Sam. I still think the boys look so much alike...
Love the shirt you made for the hubby and the girls dresses. It's weird how the fabrics were so different! You have way more patience than I do, Debbie.
That shirt is amazing! Loved seeing the little ones too!!
