LITTLE DANCERS AND MOM'S QUILT PIECES ALL FINISHED!

It's the last day in June and I can hardly believe it.  Time marches on and I find myself scrambling to keep up it seems.  Not sure how the "lazy days of summer" don't seem to be happening, (yet!) but honestly I am enjoying it all.  Sat was hubby and I's cleaning day.  I won't go into detail of what all we did (I know you are openingly cheering, lol), but I do have to say this.  I am sooo glad we have gone to this plan even though I do hate giving up any "play" time we might have had.  The house has never looked better!  It is WAY easier to just DO what I want done then fretting over some service not doing it to suit me.  We have down a pretty good system now, and it is just a few hours of our time.  I also have to say I couldn't do it without my wonderful hubby, as my arthritis is limiting, but together we are a good team.  And we DO get a 4 week break as when it needs it again in a couple of weeks our cleaning gal will do it, so really that's not too bad. After we finished up we dressed and headed down to San Diego to see our two grand daughters in their very first dance recital. What a fun night it was!  The place where they do dance is through a local church, so all of the music used was Christian, and the costumes were modest and tasteful.  The girls were soo excited and allowed to wear a little make up they were practically beside themselves, lol.  And soooooo pretty in this grandma's opinion.  They did a WONDERFUL job and I  enjoyed every moment they were on stage.  The others dancing were quite entertaining too.  There were many adults who also performed and sang as well. All in all a very fun night!  Here are some pics!

CAPRI AND DONATELLA....DELIGHTED WITH THEIR MAKE UP IT WAS TIME FOR HAIR!

AFTERWARDS WITH THEIR FLOWERS.  LITTLE DONATELLA'S TEACHER MADE HER LITTLE DANCERS BEARS WITH OUTFITS THAT MATCHED THEIR COSTUMES...SOO CUTE!
VINNY CHEERING HIS SISTERS ON!

AND DOING HIS DANCING ON GRANDMA!  WE TOOK TURNS PASSING HIM AROUND..HE DID SOO WELL FOR A TWO HOUR SHOW!

HE HAS BECOME QUITE THE HANDFUL AT 10 MONTHS...LOVE HOW YOU CAN SEE THE SMILE IN HIS EYES

Yesterday we decided to once again listen to our old pastor on-line as driving all the way back to San Diego for church seemed too much for both of us, not to mention with gas what it is.  But we did run a few errands as well and afterwards I decided to work on the quilt pieces we had from the quilt of my mothers we cut up. I will tell you as scary as it was to cut into that beautiful old quilt I am sooo glad we did!  I am sooo pleased with how they came out.  They are soft, beautiful, and perfect.  This way we each have a piece of mom's quilt that was made by HER grandmother out of her baby dresses.   I can't tell you how good it made me feel as I sat (for a few hours, haha) hand sewing those bindings on.  Now that I know a little about quilting, I honestly cannot imagine how long it took my great grandmother to hand quilt that whole thing, not to mention hand piecing it as well!  And knowing I was working on something that she made years and years ago was just the best feeling.  I did soak the pieces for 3 more days!  And they just came out sooo nice!  Any aging or yellowing or dullness has been completely restored.  I also love knowing that my sisters and I each have 1 daughter to pass this piece of mom on down to as well.  An honest to goodness heirloom.  I will tell you the pictures simply DO NOT do them justice as they are soo much prettier in person.  I did mine and my younger two sisters as well as they do not sew.  My older sister Diane will do her own and I am sure she will enjoy the process as much as I did.  Let me show you....

AREN'T THEY PRETTY?

LOVED THE COLORS!

LOVED HOW THE BINDING FABRIC PICKED UP THE GREENS AND THE LAVENDER
I also picked up the topper from the quilters on Friday and have Melody's place mats about finished.  But I still have to bind the topper so I will wait until I finish to show you.  Same thing with the place mats.  Soo much binding I had on my list.  I have discovered that I thoroughly enjoyed sitting in front of the TV stitching away.  Certainly the way to do those LONG hand jobs.  I need to get busy on all of this however if I am going to keep on my schedule.  I have MUCH to do before Melody and her family arrive for 10 days!!!  I am sooo excited!  Hope you all enjoy your "lazy days" of summer, lol!  Blessings to you all!  Debbie

  7. Debbie, the dancers are pretty!
It must have been a delight to watch them perform.
I love the bindings you chose for the quilts. It looks like old flour cloth. I know you will all cherish having this special heirloom from your Mother and your daughter's as well when they receive them.

  10. I'm a little slow checking in ... but I just LOVE how you were able to share that quilt! I have to admit that I was concerned about cutting into it, but you did an absolutely fabulous job! So well done ... and so beautiful! It looks like it was made to be cut into quarters!

Enjoy your time with Melody and her family!
