FRIDAY ALREADY!

I have had a busy couple of days at the sewing machine, but I feel like I've gotten a lot done so I am done now until Monday which leaves me some time to put up a quick post.  I have been a day behind all week it seems, which I guess is technically true because of the holiday.  But doesn't bother me any and now it's already Friday afternoon again.  My sister Diane came over yesterday and we continued to work on her quilt.  It is just darling!  I love the way it came out.  Because of the way the pattern was on the quilt, and the busy vintage type scrappy fabric, I felt like a simple quilting would probably work best and she agreed so I told her I would do it for her.  She made quick work of getting the small borders on and then between the two of us we got it layered and ready for quilting. It works REALLY well to have two people when it came to this process, making me know I will look for an assistant if I do this in the future.  I just did a simple quarter inch seam by all of the seams in the quilt, lengthening it a little bit, and it worked pretty well.  I  then did a decorative stitch down the small borders and that came out pretty cute too.  Still needs to be bound of course, but my sister is not sure what fabric she wants.  I am trying to talk her into using the scrapes and making a scrappy looking binding as that would be super cute with this quilt I think.  Lots of work though so not sure she feels like that, lol.  My sister is going to hang it in the room of her house that she uses as a classroom.  She homeschools her granddaughter Jackie who is 12.  She has been doing this for a few years now, and honestly just loves it.  I think there is a "wanna a be" school teacher in both of us, lol.   Let me show you the quilt though these pictures were taken on my phone, and not very good..

CUTE...SORRY, KIND OF BLURRY

A LITTLE BETTER VIEW...IF YIU LOOK CLOSELY YOU CAN SEE THE DECORATIVE QUILTING STITCH IN THE BORDER

CLOSE UP ON THE QUILTING AND SOME OF THE FABRICS
And then I finished up the fairies for my Christmas quilt.  I ended up not going with either one of the examples of thread color I showed you in my previous post.  I decided that a variegated thread in a single color design just wasn't working very well, so I went with a burgundy red, and a deep Christmas green.  4 of the fairies are red, and 4 are green, and then the center block (which I haven't made yet) will be a burgundy heart with a green Joy To The World in the center of it.  I am hoping to pick out the fabric to go with these designs tomorrow.  All the blocks are 10 and half by 10 and half so the fairies are kind of big.  Aren't they darling?

I also wanted to ask you for prayer should you have the time, for my BIL Paul. He is one of my younger sister's husband.  He was hospitalized yesterday after they finally discovered (he has been sick almost two weeks!) that he has an infection in the Mitral Valve of his heart.  He will be on a strong intravenous antibiotic and hospitalized for at least a week, and will also have to under go open heart surgery to repair the valve eventually as it has been damaged with the infection.  Needless to say all very alarming.  He is a good, strong Christian man and my prayers are with him.  Scary how quickly something can come upon you, and you can find yourself in a position you didn't see coming.

Well guess that's about it for now.  We are headed into a heat wave this week-end and I am not looking forward to it I won't lie.  September for us Southern Californians though is usually one of the hottest months of the year, so I guess it is the old it is what it is.  Hope you all have a good week-end, and find joy in the simple things.  Blessings to you all!  Debbie

  1. Hi friend, I love the quilt! So very cute and looks warm and snugly. Great job. I also like your fairies too. Praying for your bil; it is amazing how quickly life can change on us. I've been having really high blood pressure but have a doctor appt. on Monday; hopefully it will be an easy fix. I have been off meds now for 4 mos. and have liked it. Guess my body doesn't.
Hope you have a fun weekend too-our last sentences today were very similar.
    Hugs, Noreen

  7. I have taken a blogger hiatus for a couple weeks so have missed out on the goings on of my blogger buddies. I'm at our son's for a couple weeks so am able to get back to posting and catching up with all of you.

Debbie, your sister's quilt is adorable and will be perfect for the classroom. And I love all those fairies! What a lovely Christmas quilt that will be!

So sorry to hear of your BIL's health issue. This can be so scary, but I am trusting God will fight that infection for him and use the medical staff to bring about a rapid and complete healing. Have a great new week.
