WEEK-END NEWS

Oh how I love a 3 day week-end!  This last one was no exception.  Soo much time to just relax and soak in the last of the summer.  On Saturday we spent a leisurely morning chatting and having our tea/coffee.  Then I gave hubby his hair cut.  I think I mentioned a while back that I have taken that up and it is still going well.  I trim his hair every 4 weeks or so and have learned a few things along the way.  I thoroughly enjoy it.  After that we headed down to Stars and Scraps to pick up some backing for my quilt.  I settled on some perfect flannel.  The gal has done many, many quilts using Minky too so I did consider it, (they had the perfect shade of this too) but it was quite a bit more expensive and the quilt is already kind of pricey, so that settled that.   I want this quilt to be comfy, cozy and warm, and used often.  I found what I think will be the perfect color.  It appears to almost have a herringbone tweed look to it, and honestly I wish you could feel how soft it is. I am going to whip it together this morning, and then get it back down there so that I can discuss with the quilter how I want it done.  I am going to go probably with suggestions from her, as I really don't have anything particular in mind with this one.  Something simple, and just an all over design for sure.  I also got some fabric to start on my Christmas quilt.  Another for me...seems wild I know.  I intend to embroider 9 squares on this one with Christmas fairies each doing something different such as baking a pie, wrapping presents etc.  The designs are just adorable.  They are done in a single color, though I am considering using a variegated thread on them.  I will show you one as soon as I have one completed.  After that (the finished squares will be 10 by 10) they will make the center of a blocks using Christmas fabric.  I am going to use the same pattern I used to make a quilt for my niece for graduation.  It is both simple and pretty.  I am excited about getting started on it.  I also need to make up Sam's birthday shirt, and I found the applique design for that too.  It should be fun and super cute.  We left the store with my goodies, and then had lunch, and decided to see the movie, When the Game Stands Tall.  We both LOVED it!  If you like a sports movie (I love them!) and one that is a true story, and focuses on a greater purpose for the game, then this is your movie.  Feel free to bring the whole family. We did a little grocery shopping after that and headed home for the evening.   Barbecuing and TV finished off our day.  On Sunday we decided to skip church. There was a church picnic after service which didn't appeal to either one of us as it was too hot, and a long drive without much visiting with family afterwards doesn't appeal either, so we listened to our old Pastor on line.  I missed going though, so don't know if we will do that again very soon, lol.  After listening to the message we started in and cleaned house for the next few hours. We have such a routine down it's not too bad.  We also drug out all the Fall decorations and got them up.  It was a good feeling, but honestly I just can hardly believe it is September and time to do such a thing.  That took us most of the day truthfully, and afterwards the couch was calling our names along with a good movie. There might have been a little dozing going on too, but I am not sure ~ wink.  Then Monday we slept in a little bit (even I did...clear till 6:45, lol) and had a nice breakfast and visited the morning away waiting for our middle son and his fiance to get here to go to lunch to celebrate his 38th birthday.  It was just sooo nice! Sometime it is just the better way to visit when it is just one family (or in this case couple) at a time.  We talked for hours and got caught up on everything going on in their lives.  They didn't leave until later in the afternoon and we spent the rest of the evening relaxing again in our spots on the couch and love seat.  And there you have it.  A perfectly relaxing, (yet productive!) week-end.  Hope all of yours was just as nice.  I've lots to do this week, so I'd best get going.  Let me show you some pictures from the week-end.

  4. What fun family photos! You've got a good lookin' bunch there. I love the fall decorations surrounding your sink and that cute squirrel dish with the peanuts! I have done nothing to decorate for fall but the dogs have dragged in a few leaves on their tails.

  6. I'm so so slowly getting out the fall decor too. I LOVE the way your area around the kitchen sink looks. I just have a plain old boring sink.

I know what you mean about missing church. It makes you feel a bit disconnected when you don't go, even if you listen to a sermon in other ways.

  7. I ought to get out our fall decorations, but it probably won't happen until we get back from Hilton Head. Just too busy the next week and a half.

I just love, love, love the flannel you've chosen for the backing. That's clinched it! I need to use some for backing for a future quilt!
