FINISHED CHRISTMAS QUILTS AND EXCITING NEWS!

Well it has been a pretty slow last three days for me. I have taken a quick nap or two (wink), and hit my bed pretty early too, so I think I am about all caught up and back ready to go.  Now don't get me wrong, I have done some sewing too....and the laundry...and the grocery shopping....and re-potted a couple of plants too, along with the everyday chores. There is always something to do isn't there? But I have mainly been working on my Christmas quilts that I picked up.  She did such a good job on them all!  And they are soo different from each other.  I squared up the star one first as it was the smallest and didn't seem quite so overwhelming, lol.  I decided to use up some of my scrapes from this project, and made a scrappy looking binding.  I really wasn't sure how that would look as the borders were already quite scrappy too with my made up pattern, but I have ended up REALLY liking it.  She quilted it using red thread (just like the one in the store!) and I just love it.  I am going to hang it over the buffet in my formal dining room at Christmas time, and it fits there perfectly.  "IF" I get really energetic, I'd love to make a matching runner for the dining room table too.  I think I have enough fabric to do so.  I bought a fat quarter bunch and there is really more in those then I thought. And I ordered two charm packs to make a matching tree skirt out of this fabric too. Anyway, let me show it to you....

YOU CAN SEE THE QUILTING PRETTY GOOD IN THESE PICTURES PROBABLY BECAUSE IT IS DONE IN RED...LOVE IT!

EVEN WITH MY GOOD CAMERA PICTURES JUST DON'T SHOW THEM NEARLY AS WELL

YOU CAN SEE THE BACKING AND THE BINDING IN THIS ONE

AND THIS ONE SHOWS THE BINDING BY THE SCRAPPY TYPE BORDER.  DON'T KNOW IF I COULD EVEN REPEAT THIS AS I ALREADY DON'T EVEN REMEMBER WHAT I DID, LOL  I GUESS IF I AM GOING TO MAKE THEM UP I SHOULD WRITE THEM DOWN!
And then I sat to work squaring up the big Christmas type ornament one.  I had already bought the fabric for the binding for this one, so I just had to cut it out and put it on.  The LONG part of course is hand sewing on the binding. (just under 3 hours to sew it on!)  I washed and dried this one after I was FINALLY finished so that it would be soft and comfy.  It will go on my family room couch during the season, and I intend to keep myself warm and cozy with it.  That's if it EVER cools down enough to need to, lol.  Let me show you it now...

I LOVE THIS FABRIC.  IT IS CALLED 25TH AND PINE BY MODA.  DIANE IS ALSO MAKING A QUILT OUT OF THIS FABRIC.  SIMILAR TO MINE, BUT A LITTLE DIFFERENT AS SHE DIDN'T USE SASHING AND CORNERSTONES.  LOVE HERS TOO.  ONE OF THE THINGS I LIKE SOO WELL ABOUT QUILTING IS HOW EASY IT IS TO CHANGE THINGS UP JUST A LITTLE BIT AND MAKE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LOOKING QUILT.

YOU CAN KIND OF SEE THE QUILTING SHE DID IN THIS ONE.  I JUST LOVE IT.  THERE ARE STARS, ORNAMENTS, AND SWIRLS ALL OVER.

AND THEN THE BORDER HAS CHRISTMAS TREES.  IF YOU LOOK REALLY, REALLY HARD HERE YOU CAN KIND OF SEE THEM, LOL.  THEY ARE KIND OF HARD TO SEE EVEN IN PERSON!  I WISH I HAD TOLD HER TO USE RED ON THOSE TOO SO THEY WOULD HAVE SHOWN MORE.  OH WELL, LIVE AND LEARN...

YOU CAN SEE THE BACKING AND THE BINDING HERE.  LOVE THAT SHADE OF GREEN!

ANOTHER LOOK AT THE QUILTING.
And then I finally squared up the fairy quilt.  For those of you who read my blog regularly you might remember that I didn't know if I liked this quilt when I got it done.  I had used my embroidery attachment and had made fairies doing various things such as cooking,  ice skating etc., and then did a Joy to the World design for the center.  I was hoping she might work some magic on this one with her quilting, and she did!!  Oh my goodness, what a difference quilting can make!   I just LOVE IT!! She was forced to do a custom quilting on this one of course do to all the embroidery designs, and honestly I wish I knew how to photograph it well so you could see all the detail she went to.  It did make a little more pricey, but honestly not as bad as I feared, lol.  This one will hang on the wall in my sewing area which is really kind of part of our family room as well.  I am VERY anxious to get it up there and see what I think.  I have not done the binding yet for it so I will wait to show it to you.  I can't even fully make up my mind what I want to do with it.  One minute I am thinking...use left over fabric and make another scrappy look.  The next I am thinking just using the same fabric as the backing.  And yet what I think I really want to do is get another coordinating fabric altogether.  I will decide soon.

Tomorrow my niece and her friend and new business partner are coming over for a lesson in making bandanna bibs and infinity scarves for toddlers for their new business venture.  They have already designed designs for t-shirts, and they want to add on the bibs and the scarves to complete their "look".  They intend to eventually make these items themselves, but I will help them out for a while in exchange for my constantly needing to be done hair.  (BIG GRIN!)

And then!  One final thing... I have been waiting for the go ahead from my daughter to announce that she is expecting another sweet baby!  In early May or more then likely late April.  She is already ready to begin her second trimester, and hopefully will start feeling better soon.  Goodness, she has been soo sick this time round!  She is still considered high risk (like her first two pregnancies) so we would appreciate any prayers you might like to pray. This makes an even dozen for hubby and I, and honestly I feel beyond blessed! My cup surely runneth over. Let me show you her cute little announcement that hit the social media today!

SOO SWEET!

  8. Twelve Grands! What a blessing! I do love the sweet announcement with those two handsome little punkins.

Ahh, the Christmas quilts are just beautiful, Debbie. Isn't it interesting how a quilt can add so much warmth to a room, not to mention the actual warmth they provide. You will be ready for the Master Quilters circuit before long.

  9. Oh, my, Mel is going to have her hands full, full and what a shame that you all do not live closer so that you could help her out more.

The quilts are so pretty and I enjoy hearing about how much you enjoy the time you spend quilting. That would make your Mom very happy I bet.

    Have a great weekend!
