LOTS OF NIGHTIES!

Welp I have finished up the nighties this week, and AFTER I FINALLY figured out what mistakes I was making and how to "fix" them, the new pattern turned out to be a snap.  Goodness, I can be a little slow sometimes on figuring something out, (and it was SOO easy too!) but I have always been a little stubborn and I wasn't about to admit defeat.  I am really glad now that I didn't, not only because I WANTED to know how to do it, but because honestly they are REALLY cute, and that style of neck and shoulders can be used in many other projects in the future.  Anyway, I made up 6 of those, and 3 of the old fashioned ones as well.  So 9 altogether which should be plenty I am thinking.  You know, I was thinking.  Those old fashioned ones were made originally by what will be this babies great, great, grandmother.  Pretty neat I think.  Personally, they remain my favorite ones.  And not just for sentimental reasons either.  I just prefer the fuller nighties, and the fact that they snap up the front rather then go on over their heads, but to each their own.  Let me show you them all.  I have to say first though that these were REALLY fun to make!  lol.  I found another PDF pattern for a little beanie hat and made a few of those as well out of scraps.

AFTER I STRUGGLED THROUGH WORKING THE KNIT FABRIC (WHICH I REALLY DON'T LIKE...DID I MENTION THAT, LOL?) IT OCCURRED TO ME.  WHY COULDN'T I USE FLANNEL FOR THE GOWN PART, AND KNIT ONLY ON THE NECK AND THE SLEEVES?  THAT'S WHAT I DID HERE AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY.  SOO MUCH EASIER FOR ME, AND THE FLANNEL IS SOO SOFT TOO.

THIS ONE IS ALL MADE OF KNIT.  THE FABRIC ITSELF IS REVERSIBLE, SO THIS WORKED OUT REALLY CUTE.  THE PATTERN FOR THIS HAT IS REALLY LITTLE.  IF HER HEAD IS TOO BIG FOR IT, OH WELL I GUESS, LOL

I RE-DID THE FIRST ONE BY CUTTING IT APART SO IT IS A TINY BIT SMALLER THEN THE OTHERS.  IT WAS DRIVING ME WILD BACKWARDS.  SHE "COULD" HAVE WORN IT THAT WAY, BUT IT WOULD HAVE DRIVEN  GRANDMA NUTS, LOL  THIS ONE GOT A BEANIE TOO.

HERE'S ANOTHER.  LOVED THIS FABRIC.  IT'S A DARK GREY BACKGROUND.  HARD TO TELL HERE.  THE PINK IS SOO SOFT AND PRETTY.  THIS ONE IS ALL MADE OF KNITS

I LOVE THIS ONE!  THE BLUE AND WHITE CLOUD PART IS FLANNEL, AND THE REST IS KNIT.

THIS IS THE SAME.  TINY FOOT PRINTS ARE FLANNEL, AND THE SLEEVES AND NECK ARE KNIT.  LOVED THE FABRIC
AND HERE'S THIS ONE WITH THE LITTLE MATCHING BOOTIES.  MY SISTER DIANE IS ADDING CROCHET DOWN THE FRONT OF THIS ONE, AND AROUND THE NECK, AND ON THE ENDS OF THE SLEEVES.  I ALSO MADE A SINGLE WIDTH RECEIVING BLANKET FOR THIS AS WELL, AND SHE IS CROCHETING AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE BLANKET ON IT TOO.  THE CROCHET IS IN THE COLOR OF THE INSIDE OF THE BOTTIES.  I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT DONE.  THESE OLD FASHIONED NIGHTGOWNS WERE OFTEN FINISHED THIS WAY BY MY AUNT OR MY GRANDMOTHER, AND I AM SOO GLAD DIANE KNOWS HOW AND IS WILLING TO PUT IT ON FOR ME.  IT JUST MAKES THESE SOOO MUCH BETTER,  THIS PRINT IS MELODY'S FAVORITE.  MIGHT MAKE UP A BURP CLOTH OUT OF IT AS IT HAVE A LITTLE LEFT.

THIS ONE IS THE OLD FASHIONED PATTERN, BUT I ADDED ELASTIC ON IT AROUND THE BOTTOM THE WAY MELODY LIKES.  IT'S CUTE I THINK, BUT I PREFER THE OTHER WAY.  I EMBROIDERED A LITTLE BUNNY ON THE FRONT OF THIS ONE.  SOO CUTE.  AND MADE ANOTHER RECEIVING BLANKET THAT DIANE IS GOING TO CROCHET USING THE GREEN COLOR THAT THE BUNNY IS EMBROIDERED OUT OF.   THIS ONE ALSO GOT MATCHING BOOTIES

CLOSE UP OF THE BUNNY

AND I LOVE LOVE THIS PRETTY LAVENDER.  THE APPLIQUE I PUT DOWN THE FRONT I BOUGHT AT JOANNES WITH A COUPON, BUT MY MACHINE DOES MAKE THESE I GUESS BUT I HAVE NEVER TRIED IT.  SOMEDAY...THIS ONE TOO WILL GET THE MATCHING RECEIVING BLANKET WITH CROCHET AROUND THE EDGES.  DIANE AND I FOUND A BEAUTIFUL WHITE THAT IS SOMEWHAT IRIDESCENT LIKE THE APPLIQUE HERE FOR THE CROCHETING.  CAN'T SEE THAT VERY WELL BUT IT IS.  AND SO IS THE LITTLE EMBELLISHMENT ON THE BOOTIES.
I also made up some turbans this week for my niece, and worked on some details for both the parties coming up in two weeks.  Oh!  And I found an outfit for the anniversary/vow ceremony, and a new blouse for the sprinkle shower.  Whew...I am tired I am not going to lie, so I am so glad the week-end stretches ahead with nothing much we HAVE to do much to my utter  and complete delight.  Next week I hope to finish up a couple more little dresses, and a romper and I think I am done....for now, lol.  I will begin on the quilt and the rest of the nursery items AFTER Melody has gone home.

Soo, hope all of you are looking forward to your week-ends as much as I am, and get to do some of what you truly enjoy.  Our weather is going to heat up some for a couple of days (mid 80's) as the Santa Ana winds are blowing in tonight and bringing their warm air with them.  I have all my windows open right now and a truly luscious breeze is blowing in.  I love it.  Blessings to you all, Debbie

Just curious...what style do YOU prefer?  And which nightie is your favorite?  I think I am going to go with the old fashioned (think I mentioned that, lol) and the white with the little rosebuds.

  1. Debbie, absolutely every one of these nighties is darling!! But if I had to choose a favorite, I'd also choose the one you like, the old-fashioned rosebud print. So dainty and feminine...beautiful! (Please show it again when your sister has completed the crocheted trim?)

    Have a lovely, relaxing weekend!

  4. Perhaps I am too old-fashioned, but I am with you. I imagine a sweet little baby girl in the delicate rosebuds. All are wonderful and I can just imagine how comfortable each and every one will be. You do amazing work. You know, little girls grow very fast. =D

  5. Oh, my goodness!!!! I love them ALL!!! I guess the rosebud would be my VERY favorite!!!
I used this same pattern back in 2012 when my daughter had quadruplets. I used her baby doll in order to cut the pattern down for a preeme size. They were only 2.6 lbs to 3.6 lbs. The sad fact is that not one of the babies wore any of the 16 gowns with matching caps. Not one and not even for a minute! I still get sad when I think of all the hours I spent cutting and sewing. I kept a few of them to keep for doll clothes and the rest went off to Goodwill. Glad you and your daughter are on the same page!
In no time at all I will be seeing a beautiful baby wearing these same little gowns show up in our blogging feed and think, 'My how time has flown!!! I remember when you were just making these!'

  9. Gosh Debbie, what lovely baby clothes! I love the rosebuds and the clouds and the one with the darker background.
I can't wait to see what it looks like after your sister gets finished. I think I like old fashioned too.
She will be the best dressed little girl in the whole world. It really is a very cute pattern.
I am so glad you finally figured out that pattern.
I hope you get to rest this weekend. You sure worked hard this last week. All of those clothes are just beautiful.

  10. I love them all, especially the turquoise with the little beanie but for ease of dressing I would go with the tiny rosebud gown. Pretty and delicate looking and you don't have to pull over babies head (a nice feature when changing baby in the middle of the night) This is gonna be one well dressed baby! Enjoy your weekend

  11. Debbie, my favorite is the one with the dark grey background with the pink bow, and the pink rosebud one. But, honestly, I am spellbound with your talent pull and your energy level, with every single visit here. You certainly make the best use of your time. I admire you!!!
