WEEK-END WRAP UP

Well hope you all had a nice Valentine's week-end.  We had a very nice relaxing one over here.
After our usual Sat. morning morning coffee/chat time we decided we'd have a nice "Valentines" lunch out.  And we hit the restaurant by 11:30 figuring we needed to beat the crowds.  Trust me here in So California...and probably most places...everyone eats out on Valentine's Day, lol.  We went to the Cheesecake factory and I had a delicious salad.   Then we went and saw the movie The Imitation Game.  We both thought it was a pretty good movie.  It did strike me that it is honestly sooo hard to imagine what in the world it would be like to have been born with such an amazing mind.  I usually enjoy movies that are based on a true story and this was no exception.  After that we did our grocery shopping and headed home where we spent pretty much the rest of the day on the couch and easy chair in front of the TV watching old movies.  Perfect day for us...And yesterday we headed down to San Diego for church as usual and after service took little Donatella to celebrate a little with her for her sixth birthday.  She is our Valentine's baby.  Can't hardly believe she and little Cody are both already six!  We have decided since we have been blessed with soo many grandbabies that it is just the best to get one at a time with them to ourselves for a little while and let them feel pampered and focused on if only for a brief time.  This particular little girl has quite the relationship with her beloved "Grampy" lol.  Right from the start she has felt the sun rises and sets in his presence, and has the hardest time sharing his attention with her siblings. Or with anyone or anything else for that matter.  She has been known to say, "Grampy you have been watching football for HOURS and talking to everyone but me!"  haha. Anyway, we felt pretty certain she would love some one on one time.  So we started right after church by letting her chose where we lunched, and then we'd move on with a trip to the toy store so she could pick out her own present.  That worked really well with Cody and may just be our new routine for birthday's.  She picked pizza for lunch so we went to BJ's and she had her pizza and grandma picked yet another delicious salad.  Then it was on to Toy's R Us.  She could hardly contain herself.  Now at this point I had one of my knees that was giving me some grief so I turned them loose in the store on their own and waited for them in the car.  Well let's just say that might have been a mistake.  First of all Grampy is a pushover which all of his kids and now grandkids are VERY aware of, lol.  Now that's not to say grandma is some toughie, but in comparison it might seem this way.  They were gone quite a while.  I was about to hobble in and see what was happening for myself when here they game carrying a pretty big bag with.....now if you can imagine this!!  a hello kitty DRUM set!  Can you imagine?  lol  I began thinking to myself, well our kids might be just a little uphappy with us over this, lol.  But upon inspection I see that it is just a drum...not a SET of drums...and a harmonica, a tambourine, and pair of shaking canasta's... he was also talked into a game of hungry, hungry hippo.  Tella was beside herself with excitement though I will say, lol. We headed back to their house after that where they had set up for a little party with all her little girlfriends. They were to dress up like princesses and get to put on makeup and feast on cupcakes and snacks.  Sounded perfect to her.  We left before the festivities began and so far haven't heard IF the drum and other musical instruments have been enjoyed by all, lol.  We got home and we spent the rest of the late afternoon and evening pretty much the way we had the day before.  This week I am ready to get started on the babies quilt.  I intend to do just a simple hour glass pattern so it should go together pretty quickly.  Looking ahead at the weather for this week it looks like it is going to be just gorgeous.  Somewhere in the mid to high 70's all week.  Goodness I do feel badly sometimes when I see what some of you battle, but then again California weather is one of it's big selling points.  I could go on to mention all of it's flaws....but then what is the point of that? lol  Hope you all have a good week wherever you are, and may you experience many of His blessings! Debbie

  5. Too cute! I have friends who have 12 grands. One Saturday each month is reserved for one of them. It works very well and they spread out the cost and energy. It takes a lot of energy to entertain grands. Did you not have your cell phones? =D

Yes, with all the other things going on in CA, you deserve your pleasant winter weather. I won't begrudge you...

  7. I love seeing little birthday parties with all the precious smiling faces! One can almost imagine the excitement they feel in their hearts. I am still smiling at the thought of a new "Hello Kitty" drum set. Oh my.
The favorite of these pictures though, is the one of her and her grandpa at the restaurant. Priceless!!!

  8. I love the idea of giving each grand there own special time....it will mean a lot to them and special memories will be made with each one. I had to laugh about the " drum set" I had found something similar at a thrift store....brand new mind you...it was a set of castanets, a tamborine, wooden clackers and bell sticks. When mom saw the set she told the kids right from the start that the "instruments" would be staying at grandma's house...lol. Sounds like a wonderful weekend
