THE DIAGNOSIS

Well it's been determined.  It is shingles.  Sigh.  The doc has given me something for pain but honestly I think I have been through the worst of it without it.  At least I hope so.  The last couple of days (since the rash broke out) has not been nearly as bad.  I was sooo bad over the weekend. I just am hoping I will only need the pain pills at night to sleep.  Seems soo weird it is worse laying down.  This has not been good I won't lie and I wouldn't wish it on anyone...ever.  I have heard it can drag on and on for some people and I am praying desperately that I won't be one of them.  I am only mildly pleased that the pain wasn't coming from over use or all my sewing.  I really am careful about breaks and not sewing if my neck is tired etc. plus I just couldn't bear to give it up.  Now I just have to get over this and hopefully in a couple of weeks I can be back at my normal activities.  Never even occurred to me it could be something like shingles.  But I have had muscle strain before and honestly it wasn't even close to this.  Guess that's it for now.  Hope you all have a good weekend, and sure am hoping mine is better as well.  Blessings to you all!   Debbie

  1. As sad as I am to hear that you've got a diagnosis, I am sorry to hear that it's shingles. It's not fun, especially when the pain hangs on for months and months. Praying that you won't have to deal with that.

  2. I am sorry to hear this, Debbie. You will get through it I'm sure. The Lord is with you. My dad had shingles when he was in his 60's and though it was tough, it did pass rather quickly and he never suffered any afterwards. I am praying for you.
    Big Hugs!

  3. Debbie, I am so sorry to hear this. A few years ago, I had it. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy! Mine began with a numb left left hip and thigh. Then, that night, the most horrific pain in my lower back I have ever experienced. I went to Dr and they thought it was a muscle strain. They prescribed muscle relaxers, and pain meds. No relief. That night the pain was so awful, in my lower back that I couldn't sleep. I reach back to rub my back and was horrified to find a bunch of weepy blisters. Went back to doc, and sure enough, shingles. I was so sick! I had nerve pain in my back for about 5 years! Be careful, and make sure you get the vaccine. Take care! Wear a loose cotton nightgown, and do NOTHING! Wishing you a speedy recovery.

  4. Mine was on my back as well. The backache got better but the pain of the blisters got worse before it got better. My Doctor recommended a topical cream called Zostrix (over the counter). It's an arthritis Pain relief but it helped a lot. Have hubby apply tenderly. A little uncomfortable when being rubbed on but well worth the few seconds of discomfort. Praying it goes away as quickly as it came. I still have an occasional phantom pain in that area, they say that is normal.

    Hugs!!

  5. I hope it passes very quickly. I know how painful that can be, I hope you can find something that makes the pain go away.
I guess all you can do is rest. Feel better soon.

  6. Sorry to hear this. I know very little about shingles other than it can cause a lot of pain. Hey - on the bright side, at least you don't have to go back to the chiro - right?!

Hope you heal soon. In the mean time, rest in the Lord's arms and know He is with you every painful step of the way. :)

  9. Oh dear! I am sorry to hear you have shingles. I know that they can be very painful. I had singles about 12 years ago, but my case was mild overall. I thought that maybe I had a chemical burn because I just couldn't figure out why I had these needle-like pains in my side and these painful blisters. Good grief. Can you believe that I went on our annual mother-daughter Christmas shopping trip and didn't even know what was wrong?! Anything for tradition, I guess!! Crazy!

I do hope that you're feeling better very soon! Please take care of yourself!

  10. MY dearest Debbie, I am so very sorry to hear of you getting shingles; I totally understand because I had them in my 40's. I so remember how surprised I was-thought I had a kidney infection and when the doctor told me it was shingles I was shocked(thought only old people got it). I couldn't wear a bra and had to have really loose fitting clothes. I had a pain pill and also took lecithin for it. Even when the blisters left, there was minor residual pain. I'll be praying for you my dear friend. Do you know kiddos that have chicken pox? Mine came from stress induced by hubby's family. Praise God it goes away.
    Sending love, hugs and prayers.
