WHEN SHOULD I GO?

Well it's early afternoon on Friday, and this week has just flown by!  I am happy to report that I am VERY near my old self.  I am still having occasional pain but it is SOO much better that I don't really even count it, lol.  I imagine that this could continue on for a while (which I am praying it doesn't I am not going to lie!) but if it doesn't get any worse then this I am good to go.  What a good feeling it is to have that little affliction behind me.

I have been busy trying to wrap up the last of my sewing projects so that I can spend next week getting other things done before our trip...My hair, my nails, laundry, cleaning the house (I hate to come home to a dirty house!) etc. etc.  I tell you I don't ever remember a time in my life where I have gone back and forth soo much on what we are doing.  Because of Melody's unique physical condition it is VERY hard to know how long she will actually carry this baby.  Most pregnancies are of course 40 weeks.  And most pregnant women without any problems will carry the babies somewhere between 39 and half and 40 and half weeks.  I pretty much always fell into that category with the exception of my third son who came a little early.  Probably because he weighed a whopping 10 pounds.  But anyway, Melody carried Sam 37 weeks and 2 days, and Luke 37 weeks and 5 days. Now both of these were great, and considered "term" but technically a little early compared to the average 40 weeks.  Anyway, it would seem that we could count on this baby coming in that 37th week somewhere.  However, (without going into detail...which I know makes it hard to understand) things are different with this pregnancy and so therefore her past pregnancies don't mean much.  She could actually have this baby anywhere from any day now to going the full 40 weeks.  Her doc's educated opinion is he doubts greatly she will go the full 40 weeks.  But one thing I have learned over the years, he is only really guessing too, lol.  Sooo thus my dilemma.  WHEN should I go?  Personally, I would like to arrive a day or two BEFORE she delivers,  and stay close to a full week afterwards.  That is what happened when she had Luke and it was just about perfect.  But that was a "God thing" that He worked out for both of us.  Don't know if He has that in mind again, lol.  Here are my couple of choices I have narrowed it to that we are considering.  Oh, guess I should mention one of the problems is I DON'T fly.  Not to mention, in addition to not flying, because of where she lives in the country, there are NO airports close, NO direct flights, and so therefore it require a full day of traveling as well anyway.  It's one of the reasons I have to talk her into visits more now when she is coming without her hubby but with her kids.  It is a LONG LONG day.  But back to my plan.  My youngest son James told me that he is willing to drive me out on Monday April 20th in my car (which will be loaded to the brim), stay a couple of days and then fly home leaving me there of course.  We would be arriving as she is 37 weeks and 3 days.  Then my hubby would fly out that Friday (38 weeks) and stay for a week to a week and half and SURELY during that time if she hasn't already had the baby she will.  But of course "technically" she would not yet be quite 40 weeks before my hubby has to be back, meaning while I have had a nice two week visit, she may not have even had the baby yet!  Now truthfully that is unlikely.  But it could happen.  (are you following all this?  I know it's hard...lol) Plan 2 would be that my son stays home and hubby and I drive out together on Friday April 24th and stay about 10 days.  This would eliminate the expense of an airplane flight, in addition to gas back and forth as well.  But there are a few flaws to that plan.  First, she would be 38 weeks before we ever arrive and she might have already had that baby.  And second, her brother would really like to visit too and now hes been eliminated (his sister is paying for his airline flight so it's a free trip for him, lol), and then 3rd, she might not have even had the baby at all before we leave.  Sooo I guess there is really 3 plan possibilities.  The third plan would be to just wait until she is in labor and head out.  That's what we did with Sam.  But!!  the problem with this plan is that hubby HAS to be here on the 6th and the 14th and the 19th of May for work, meaning IF she should go close to 40 weeks we would not be able to get there until after the baby was born by 2 or 3 weeks.  I don't know if I could bear waiting that long, and Melody honestly kind of needs me before that.  She is going to have her hands pretty full.  Now, of course hubby could just leave me there when he leaves on the 5th, but he would have to come back and get me eventually, lol, and that would mean I would have been at Melody's way over a month, not to mention he is making that long long drive twice in a few weeks of time.  I wish I could say I would LOVE to stay at Melody's that long, but honestly I don't.  I am not as comfortable in the bed I sleep in there and so therefore don't sleep as well, and honestly I think their little family needs to settle into their new feel without me there long before that.  Sooooo, how's that for not knowing? lol  And of course, meanwhile there is EVERY possibility she will have the baby before (like this week-end!) in which case I hope we can just head out but I can't remember all of hubby's work appointments that he can't miss.  So I guess we will just have to pick a plan and then pray it all works out, lol.  I have absolutely NO idea why I tried to type this all out here other then to hope maybe something would occur to me that I haven't thought of yet.  But no such luck, lol.

I finished up the rag quilt.  And while it is definitely cute, I wish I had NOT used the plain lavender flannel on the backing.  I forgot that solid colors of flannel tend to pick up lint badly on those rag quilts, and so I have spent A LOT of time trying to get it all off.  Minky doesn't pick up lint like that. I did get a picture of it, but it's not a good one.  You can't really see it that well, and it looks WAY better in person.  And then I got the boys's decorative pillows done and the matching valance for their room. She moved Luke in with Sam a couple of weeks ago and put Luke in a big boy bed (though he is still napping in the crib....she couldn't get him to stay in the bed very well for a nap! lol) and bought them new comforters from Target.  I really wanted to make them quilts but Melody felt like I have already done way too much and for boys that are that little she couldn't see the time and expense. Maybe when they get a little older.  But I did make them pillows with their names on to match, and the curtain valance for the window as well.  Let me show you now....

IT IS VERY SOFT AND COMFY...

I DO LOVE HOW THE LAVENDER BACKING COMES UP IN THE FLUFF OF THE RAG FRINGE

CLOSER LOOK STILL

THE STARS ON THE PILLOWS I CUT OUT OF A OF A PILLOW SHAM I BOUGHT AT TARGET THAT IS THE SAME AS THE QUILTS.  IT NOT ONLY HELPED ME MATCH THE FABRICS PERFECTLY, BUT THEN I USED PIECES OF IT TO MAKE THE STARS I APPLIQUED ON AS WELL.  I HAD PLENTY OF RED FABRIC THAT I USED FOR BINDINGS ON THESE PILLOWS, SO I ADDED A STRIPE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE VALANCES TOO.  IT THINK IT TIED IT TOGETHER REALLY WELL.

CLOSER LOOK AT SAM'S   I USED A RED BLANKET STITCH TO STITCH THE STARS ON WITH, AND I REALLY LOVED THE FONT FOR THE EMBROIDERED LETTERING  I FOUND.   I WASN'T SURE HOW IT WOULD COME OUT MAKING THE LETTERING AS LARGE AS I DID, BUT IT WORKED JUST FINE!
I JUST HAD TO SHOW YOU THIS....I WAS LOOKING FOR BIG BROTHER EMBROIDERY DESIGNS ON GOOGLE AND OF COURSE A BUNCH OF IMAGES CAME UP TO CHOSE ONE FROM...INCLUDING! THE ONE I DID FOR THE NEW BABY CLAIRE!!  I HAVE NO IDEA HOW IT GOT ON THERE, BUT I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY FUNNY.  TOLD MEL I AM FAMOUS!  LOL
Well guess that's it for now.  Hope you all had a good week!  I am praying diligently about our decision as is hubby.  I think I am just going to let him make the call, and do then do whatever he thinks WITHOUT fretting and complaint.  Think I will pull that off?  What do you all think I should do?  Enjoy your week-ends...blessings to you all!  Debbie

  1. Well Debbie, it is quite a problem. I thought, " Gee, Lord, lets just pray and see when God leads you to go." He knows when she will go into labor and I will pray that you have perfect peace. The solution will become perfectly clear.
I love that blanket and the pillows. It always freaks me out when I find myself on Google.
I don't know how comfortable I feel with it.
I am so glad you are feeling so much better. That is such good news. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and God will choose your steps. :)

  2. Hi Debbie, I'm joining Farm Girl and praying that you will have wisdom as to when to go. Did Mel have any signs of going into labor or that is what getting close prior to labor with the boys. Maybe her Dr. will have some insight. I understand how you are feeling though. Glad your shingles are getting better.
Love the blanket and the pillows-you are such a blessing to your family. I trust Him to work it all out.
    Hugs,

  4. All of your projects turned out so cute, Debbie. Your g'children are so blessed to have a g''mother who loves to sew for them!
Since so much depends on your hubbies schedule your plan to let him decide is probably the best one. Sometimes it's better to let someone else make the decision when we're so confused about what to do!
    Have a good weekend-Kimberly

  6. First of all, it's good to know that you're feeling better...and in time for baby! I have no advice to give you about travel plans. I only know (as other friends have said) that He will lead and it will be good.

Love those pillows and how you have created a custom look with store-bought products!
