MY SEWING MACHINE COVER!

Well it's late Friday afternoon and it's been a quick week which I guess is always the case when Mon is a holiday, lol.  I will admit that I took it pretty easy after our busy, busy week-end, but I got everything done that I intended to, which is better then nothing.  I caught all our traveling laundry up, and worked on a project that I have been procrastinating about for months now....maybe even years, lol. After my sewing cabinet broke....which I don't know if you recall or not...I have been unable to pretty much EVER put my sewing machine away.  Before it broke I could lower my machine down and close the lid which kept it protected from dust etc.  Now I didn't do that every day as I sew everyday anyway, and you know how I hate hassel, but at least occasionally I would.  Anyway, I knew I needed to make a cover for it so I could cover it up EVERY night when I am finished for the day. Honestly it really bothered me that I wasn't doing this, as it is near the window which is usually open, and it is a complicated computerized machine.  Really very neglectful on my part.  So I decided this would be a good time and week to just DO IT.  That meant that I needed to figure out what I wanted and then figure out how to make it and then get the fabric etc and get on with it.  Probably some of the reasons I have not done it in the past.  After looking at a bajillion  sewing cover ideas on pintrest, I decided I wanted to have embroidery on the front of it.  I knew that would make things more complicated and have it take longer, but I decided it would be worth it.  So then I began looking for just the right design.  That took WAY longer then I intended, but I finally found the cutest thing ever. However, remember I told you I am back on the dinosaur computer? Well, I don't know how to download designs from it, so I had to figure that out first, which took again WAY too much time. But I finally got it done and downloaded it onto my sewing machine.  So now it was time to embroider.  It was a super dense design....meaning it took me almost 2 and half hours to do it.  But honestly it came out WAY cuter then I hoped, and for once the colors I chose worked the first time I did it. Sometimes I end up choosing colors that I end up not liking together and I have to start over.  A nightmare on a design that takes this long.  Anyway, today I took the design with me and went to the grand opening of the new Joannes by us so that I could match the colors with fabric.  I had coupons and sales and etc. and I was really looking forward to it.  I got fabric for not only the cover but also some more projects coming up for some gifts I am going to make.  I wanted to get some coordinating fabrics and quilt something for the sewing machine cover, but I ended up buying this already quilted fabric that is reversible.  I used both sides of it for the cover and it worked really well, and then finished it off with a coordinating fabric for the binding.  I also used some iron on fleece interfacing to give the whole thing a little more stiffness so it would stand better.  Let me show you....I KNOW this is way too long to tell such a simple story, lol

THE DESIGN....DISREGARD THE PINK LINES YOU SEE HERE THAT I USED TO CENTER THE DESIGN FOR HOOPING, I I IRONED THOSE RIGHT OFF LATER.  SUCH A CUTE DESIGN

CLOSE UP LOOK AT ONE SIDE OF THE QUILTED FABRIC

THE OTHER SIDE WHICH I USED FOR THE SIDES OF THE COVER

I FINISHED IT OFF WITH A LIGHT OLIVE GREEN BINDING....AND USED THAT DECORATIVE STITCH TO MACHINE ATTACH IT...MUCH QUICKER THEN BY HAND AS I USUALLY DO, BUT I FIGURED THE OTHER SIDE WOULD NEVER SHOW ANYWAY IF IT WAS OFF AT ALL,, WHICH  IT WASN'T OFF AT ALL... SO THAT WORKED WELL

AND THERE IT IS!  TA DA.....LOL

ANOTHER ANGLE.....FAR FROM PERFECT BUT IT WILL GET THE JOB DONE

I am looking forward to our week-end with not a lot on our agenda.  The weather is nice, though it is starting to warm up.  Hope you all have a good one and spend it doing what you enjoy!  I will leave you with a pic of little Claire wearing the appliqued onesie I made her, and the repaired bloomer bottoms, lol.  The bow is adorable in my opinion, but it is  little bigger then I thought it might be when I made it, lol  Blessings to you all!  Debbie

SHE HAD TO HAVE HER PACI HELD IN HER MOUTH OR SHE WAS FUSSY, LOL  MELODY TRIED TO TAKE IT OUT FOR HER DAILY PICTURE TO GRANDMA BUT IT RESULTED IN A CRYING BABY SO THIS IS THE BEST IT GETS, LOL

  1. Oh my! You've given me an ah ha moment and not a good one. All I can think is that my sewing machine sits right beside an open window. It's not as much of a machine as yours (a little Janome), but I love her and she's naked...in.front.of.the.window. I may not be able to sleep. I'll be taking some measurements asap and creating something to cover her with. Your sewing machine is beautifully dressed and isn't it the truth? May your bobbins always be filled. I wish!

Claire looks cute as a button in that outfit and the bow is adorable.

  2. My machine doesn't sit too close to a window, but even so, dust accumulates so quickly and easily even when a house is shut up. I really need to make a cover for mine. After next week (which will be busy!), I've definitely got to make one! ;-)

  3. Claire is losing her newborn look. Sigh. How does that happen so quickly?
Good idea to cover your machine...and great idea to make a cute cover!
Enjoy your relaxing weekend! We need those now and then, don't we?!

  4. What a cute picture of Claire! I love that cover. You did such a nice job.
I always put mine away. I just feel so out of sorts when I leave it out.
I hope you have such a nice day.

  5. Aw, such a cute Claire!
I love your machine cover too, Debbie.
Do you have a favorite place to purchase your patterns?

  6. Good job and I know your machine feels all nice and cozy. My Mom kept a cover over hers all the time and she always made the cover she used, but not near as fancy as yours. Between me and her she was always making clothes for us to wear. What great memories for me. Little Claire is sure growing up, just like our Andi Kate!
