HODGEPODGE WEDNESDAY

I decided it was time to jump back onto a Wednesday Hodgepodge.  It's been a while and I ALWAYS enjoy it.  I appreciate the work Joyce goes to for this event, and I know you will too.  You can join us by clicking on this picture!

1.  June 23rd is National Pink Day.  What's your favorite something pink?  Well now I guess that depends...love the color pink and many things popped into my mind on this question.  Maybe at the top of my list is pink roses...ANY shade of pink roses, lol.  I also love various shades of pink lipstick, pink nail polish, pink frosting, and pink fabric!  That always catches my eye! So I guess it would be hard to pick a "favorite".  lol

THOUGH THIS IS THE FAVORITE OF THE PINK BURP CLOTHS I JUST MADE FOR CLAIRE.. SOO MANY SHADES OF PINK!
2.  What did you enjoy most about gym class when you were in school?  How about the least? Honestly I loved PE lol.  I could never understand why soo many seemed to hate it.  I guess I enjoyed most of the sports we played [though I was never good!] and really didn't even mind the exercising part.  I liked being outside and moving around.  And my least favorite part was being involved in a good game of something and the bell ringing, lol.  Oh and when I was in high school I did dislike having to fix my make up again and re-do my hair when it was over.  Goodness, thinking back on all this it seems like a million years ago, lol.

3.  What memory is brought to mind by the smell of roses?  Well, I have ALWAYS loved the smell of roses....always.  But a few years ago we went to a wedding on the beach.  It was possibly the most spectacular wedding I ever attended....maybe even the most spectacular event I ever attended.  They actually had a small airplane fly over us carrying a sign of congratulations to the bride and groom during the cocktail hour while a 3 piece musical trio walked around playing for us, and several waiters offered tempting h'orderves lol.  Anyway, the grass aisle was COVERED in fresh roses....and I mean COVERED in such a way that as you neared the area [and you didn't have to get real close either!] the scent of roses hit you like you can't imagine.  I LOVED it!  Oh my goodness it was the most wonderful smell ever.  Now for some people it was a little too much.  But not for me....Now I can't ever smell a rose, or think of smelling roses without remembering that, lol.

4.  Do you prefer to read or write?  Goodness I am not sure I can answer that question without maybe saying "it depends".  I honestly LOVE both.  I read soo many different kinds of books and articles and blogs it seems I am ALWAYS reading, and yet nothing can satisfy me more then sitting down and writing out my thoughts and feelings even if they are nothing very significant.  I guess if I was pressed to the wall, reading would win out.

PERFECT SUMMER DAY
5.  Sam Keen is quoted as saying, "Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability"  Would you agree?  Is laziness ever respectful?  How will you be lazy this summer?  I'd say yes I agree, and yes laziness per say can be respectful.  Sometimes it is just necessary.  Doing nothing at all.  Being quite before God.  Taking a nap, reading a book, fishing, gazing at the sea all could be looked at how you "might" describe "lazy".   Sometimes I think the meaning of the word lazy could be thought of as sitting around doing NOTHING, not being productive, idleness etc., when you should be busy and accomplishing something, and therefore has a negative feeling.  But I think he is referring here to the positive side of being lazy.  Lazy days of summer always bring a good feeling to me and make me think of long warm days with nothing at all much you really HAD to do.  Sitting with my toes in the water at the beach when my kids were young and watching them run around in the sun and play.  To me lazy days of summer have nothing but a good feeling.  What am I going to do this summer to be lazy?  Probably a lot of the same.  Sit by a pool and watch grandkids play while sipping a cool drink and chatting the afternoon away.  Or taking the little ones to an afternoon matinee.  I'd love to go to the mountains and sit and listen to the breeze as it floats through the trees...love that sound! I don't have any problem thinking of things to do that might fall into the lazy category.

6.  The Florida Keys, Disney World, or a resort somewhere on the Gulf Coast....which Florida destination would you choose and why if the trip were today?  I think if I were to go on one of these trips I'd chose a resort somewhere on the Gulf Coast.  It just sounds most like me, lol.  I LOVE LOVE the beach.  Sunshine, the ocean, comfortable cozy rooms, lazing by the pool, great food, and lots of relaxation.....sounds good to me.

7.  What question do you hate to answer?  Hmmm I can think of a couple.....How old are you?  How much do you weigh? Right at the top of my list, lol.

8.  Insert your own random thought here....Had a nice day today.  Went and got my hair done and spent a couple of hours chatting away with my niece as she worked on my head.  My daughter sent me this picture of her that 3 year old Sam took of her and Claire.  It's so sweet I just had to share it. More then likely this will be Melody's last baby and she is soaking in every moment of it she can get. She is in NO hurry for her to grow past the baby stage where she can hold her in her arms and rock her.  It all goes sooo fast, and I am happy she seems to know  that.  We all need to slow down sometimes and simply cherish the moments we have been blessed with.

I LOVE the following poem and oh does it fit here....ENJOY!

Song for a Fifth Child

by Ruth Hulburt Hamilton

Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing and butter the bread,
Sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.
Oh, I’ve grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew
And out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo
But I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren’t her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
For children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

  1. Sam took that photo? Omigosh. He has a photographer's eye for sure.

I am working on this one, but it remains to be seen whether I get it going in time. Good answers!

  2. Love the poem and as grandmothers we can so relate to how quickly time passes. Your little Sam is quite the photographer! Such a beautiful and precious picture.

Yes, the lazy days of summer and retirement go hand in hand, don't they. I have no qualms with doing very little some days.

  4. I liked PE in middle and high school when we got to do more stuff. I really liked playing ping pong, tennis and badminton, sadly I was never any good, so no one wanted to play with me.

  6. Well, I cannot even imagine you ever being lazy. You are one of the most productive women I know. :o)) But, you probably should be lazy some this summer without worrying what stitch you were about to make. Such a sweet, sweet picture of Melanie and Claire. Happy mid-week!!!!

  8. Summer blessings to you Debbie, I loved all your answers; isn't it amazing how a smell can take you back to a time in our life. I remember Lilacs-a bush my mom loved. Gardenia always makes me think of the Islands. Love the photo of Mel and Claire.
We are blessed, are we not. Glad to get caught up here.
    Hugs and love,
