WEEK-END WRAP UP!

Well we had a different week-end here in So California for July that's for sure....RAIN! Boy do we ever need it too, though of course this didn't do much at all to make any real difference, but we will take it nonetheless.  Sat. morning hubby and I headed out to our porch to do some much needed trimming and clipping which we wanted to get done before the rain hit and before it became unbearably hot as well.  I think I have shared before that ALL of the plants in pots on our porch [except for two which were mom's] came from our old house where I would have had room to let them get practically as big as they ever could.  But there just isn't the room here so I have to keep them pretty clipped.  We have two LARGE gorgeous Sega Palms, a huge fig tree, an Azalea bush, another type fern [don't know the name of it, lol] and two jasmine bushes.  All of these plants require very little care and not a lot of water or there is NO way I would have managed to keep them going as long as I have.  We have lived here 5 years after-all and we had them at least 4 before we ever moved here.  Mom added a super nice Ivy vine to our plants and it too requires very little care.  However the other one is a Hydrangea plant which honestly I have no idea how it is still going two years later after she passed away.  I should just plant it in the ground like I did the other two she brought [they are doing well and are soo gorgeous!] but for some reason she wanted to keep this one smaller and on our porch so I have tried to honor that, but seriously you have to know how UN GREEN my thumb really is, lol.   Mom's on the other hand was VERY green.  All of her plants were always soo beautiful. Too bad I didn't inherit that from her.  Anyway, we worked away out there for a couple of hours and just as it was starting to sprinkle we were done.  Always a good feeling to get that out of the way.  We got cleaned up then and headed out for lunch and a movie.  We hit up our favorite Sushi place and then saw Holmes which is a story about the aging Sherlock Holmes.  We both thoroughly enjoyed it, and sitting in the chilled theater felt wonderful.  After that we stopped and did all of our grocery shopping and then headed home for a quiet evening of TV.  We made up a big barbecued chicken salad and it was just perfect for dinner, and had some tasty watermelon for dessert. Sunday we went to service with our oldest son and his family [minus Lindsey who is vacationing with her girl friends family, and Evan who was working]  which included a sixteen year old foreign exchange student from Germany.  He is joining them this summer for a month, and is here as part of a group from their church.  I was glad we were going to get an opportunity to meet him and here about his country first hand.  He speaks English very well, but with an accent of course.  After service we decided to go to a Mexican restaurant for some authentic Mexican food, as he had never had it and wanted to give it a try.  I can honestly say [and Mexican food is one of my very favorites!] that this was one of the best [if not THE best] Mexican food places I have ever eaten.  Sooo good!  Now the exchange student, Tom, was not so sure.  Too polite to say he hated it, I don't think he was very impressed.  Way too spicy for him, lol. Though truthfully it was really NOT that spicy as I am not real fond of that either, We enjoyed picking his head about his country and he was very obliging. Considering both hubby and I are mainly German made it even more interesting.  Hubby is also some Irish, where I have a little English thrown into my mix.  After lunch [which was long, lol] hubby and I headed home and it was a good thing as it was starting to rain again.  Truthfully yesterday was pretty horrid outside.  Sooo hot and humid. Probably close to a 100 degrees it was just kind of sweltering.  It felt good to get inside into the air conditioning.  How blessed we all our to have such a thing!  We spent the rest of the evening just watching TV and relaxing, AFTER we finally got all the furniture moved back where it belonged, and got the make shift beds taken down and stored away for next time.  I intend to make a decision today or tomorrow on what project to get started on so I guess my week will be a lot busier this week. The cleaning woman is due here any minute though so I need to finish stripping the beds and getting things organized for her.  Hope you all have a good week!  Blessings to you all!  Debbie  Hope you enjoy my pics as always!

  1. You were one busy bee this past weekend, but it sounds like so much fun. Hubby and I did the cultural thing with going to two theater plays. We also had the house power washed in preparation for painting next week. But, unfortunately, no grandchildren to talk about. Woe is me!!!

  7. Sounds like a nice weekend ... some productivity but also some restful, relaxing time. If I were 50 years younger, I'd be jumping for joy, just like Tella, whenever I am at the beach! ha! I can't wait to see what you decide to make for your next project.
