WEIRD MYSTERY STORY! and some more sewing!

How can it possibly be Friday already?  This week, being a short one I guess, has really gone quickly, I have spent almost the ENTIRE week parked in front of the sewing machine just having the best of time.  I am busy making some Fall and Winter clothes for Miss Claire.  Now I don't HAVE to of course as Melody is having a wonderful time dressing up her little cutie herself, but grandma honestly just can't resist.  If I see some fabric I can't live without, or is especially inexpensive, or is stashed away in my stash DOING NOTHING, lol, then I figure "I might as well".  The weather here has been just awful this week,  HOT HOT HOT and humid and just ugly.  But then September frequently is here in sunny old Southern California.  So it was a good time to just stay put in my cool air conditioned house and sew away,  Thank God for air conditioning!  We do keep our thermometer set pretty high so I run a few fans as well.  But even with the thermometer high, the dollar bills are dancing around my ceiling, and I will be glad when we can shut the thing off for a few months. Maybe in another month or so.  Do you know I NEVER turned our heat on even one day last winter? Now not that it couldn't have stood it....most WOULD have I am sure, but I just really like a cool house.  So anyway, don't know if I should back clear up to last Friday and catch you up, but I think I will just say we had a very nice, busy holiday week-end, but the only thing out of the ordinary for us that we did was to celebrate my middle son John's birthday with a nice dinner out with he and his fiance Jessica.  We had a wonderful time visiting and catching up with them,  John is on a count down year as he turned thirty nine years old.  I also caught a volleyball game of my grand daughter Lindsey's, and that too was a lot of fun.  Brought back memories of sitting in that gym watching Melody play.  Honestly can't believe she has been out of high school now 10 years!  All the kids [and the teachers] just keep getting younger and younger looking, lol.  Surely it's not because I am getting older and older, lol.  Sixty one is around the corner for me in a couple of weeks and honestly it does seem to go faster all the time.  Anyway, I have one WEIRD little story to tell you before I show you my baby clothes as it was just the strangest thing.  Some of you may remember [surely I whined, complained, posted about it] that I broke the zipper foot for my sewing machine several months ago. Forgot to take said foot off of my machine when I switched back to a decorative stitch and promptly broke both my needle and severed a piece off of my zipper foot.  I could have just cried at the time as I use this foot frequently for many things, and I knew it would be expensive to replace.  And I was right....Seventy dollars is what they wanted for a new one!  Just ridiculous!  Sooo I have just been making do without it.  And it's not been easy.  I have complained, and whined and struggled my way through it.  Anyway, about a month or so ago when I had my machine in to be serviced, I asked the repair guy if there was ANY way he could fix mine [of course there wasn't!] and if they ever put the zipper feet on sale, or sold used ones [no to both of these questions too! lol] Sooo I decided to just keep as I tell my kids, "moving along",  I have a broken embroidery bobbin holder too, but that's another story.  Anyway, I was busy yesterday morning putting gripper snaps in a pair of rompers I was making, and honestly it was just not working out well at all without a zipper foot.  Sooo I decided to look again [WHY I don't really know as I have done this a hundred times it seems] through all the feet that came with my machine and see if there was anything that might work better then the small 1/4 ft. foot I was trying to make work.  Sooo, I know you won't believe this, but there in little box thing that holds all my feet and attachments, set what appeared to be a brand new zipper foot!  I honestly couldn't believe my eyes.  At first I thought maybe I had stuck my old sewing machine's zipper ft in there by mistake, but then quickly dismissed that thought as I remember it doesn't fit my new machine,[trust me I tried!] as it is much smaller.  This one was shiny, obviously never used, and definitely NOT broken.  I took it out wondering if maybe I just didn't remember where it had been broken off before, and carefully looked it over, but NO, there was nothing that seemed to be broken. Sooo I popped it onto my machine, and it worked wonderfully, and made the whole process SOOO much easier.  Then today, I was putting piping on a collar, a zipper in a top, and MORE gripper snaps ALL of which needed the zipper foot, and I was practically giddy it had almost miraculously appeared.  Sooo now, what do you think happened?  Where did that foot come from?  Is old Deb losing her mind and it was NEVER broke in the first place?  [just as a tip I KNOW this isn't it....trust me, it was broken!].  Or did the repair guy take pity on me when I was in last time, and slip it into my box?  [Again, he is a nice guy [kid really!] and I know he likes me, but come on, the thing was seventy dollars!] OR did God truly perform a miracle?  I considered that maybe my hubby bought it for me [tired of hearing me complain no doubt!] and slipped it in to surprise me, but honestly he not only denies it [which generally he gladly takes credit for his sweet deeds, lol!] and truthfully I just can't imagine him thinking about it, let alone knowing which one I needed and buying it!  Sooo it has remained a mystery. Soo weird!  I think I waver between I've lost my mind and it was never broke, to the repair guy couldn't bear it and slipped one into my box!  I guess God could have performed a miracle, but I doubt for some reason He would find it necessary,  Soo with that story told, let me show you my baby clothes....

THIS IS THE LITTLE ROMPER....I LOVED THIS SOFT CORDUROY FABRIC.  IT HAS GRIPPER SNAPS FOR EASY CHANGING, AND BUTTONS AT THE SHOULDER.  NOTICE THE FUN LITTLE DECORATIVE STITCH AROUND THE NECKLINE AND ARM HOLES.
THEN THIS IS THE LITTLE ONE PIECE TOP I MADE TO GO WITH IT!  I LOVED THE PATTERN WITH PUFFY SLEEVES, AND A LITTLE PETER PAN COLLAR.  IT'S HARD TO SEE IT HERE BUT IT HAS PIPING AROUND THE COLLAR.  THE TOP IS A STRETCH KNIT, BUT THE COLLAR IS JUST COTTON.  IT ZIPS UP THE BACK AND HAS GRIPPER SNAPS AS WELL

HERE IT IS TOGETHER, THOUGH IT IS HARD TO SEE.  I AM JUST DYING TO KNOW IF THIS IS GOING TO FIT HER.  I KIND OF COMBINED PATTERS SO THIS IS A COMBO OF SIX TO NINE MONTHS!

NOW THIS ONE WAS REALLY FUN.  THE FABRIC IS QUILTED HEARTS AND A LITTLE HEAVIER.  THEY DO GET SOME SNOW THERE SO THIS SHOULD COME IN HANDY.  THE HOODIE ZIPS UP THE FRONT AS YOU CAN SEE AND I DECIDED TO PUT THE LITTLE CORAL COLORED COTTON POCKETS ON THE FRONT AND LINED THE HOOD WITH IT AS WELL  THE PATTERN DIDN'T CALL FOR THIS BUT I COULD JUST SEE IT IN MY HEAD, LOL, SO HERE IT IS

CLOSER LOOK AT FAB AT HOODIE

PUT LITTLE DECORATIVE HEARTS ON THE POCKETS....SOO FUN!

NOW THIS ONE IS FABRIC THAT I BOUGHT BEFORE SHE WAS BORN AND JUST NEVER GOT AROUND TO MAKING IT UP. CAN'T SEE IT VERY WELL BUT IT GLITTERS AND I LOVE IT.  THE FABRIC IS REVERSIBLE SO THAT'S HOW I GOT THE DIFFERENT LOOKS.  I ALSO KIND OF MADE UP THE PATTERN FOR THE TOP.  WELL NOT REALLY.  I USED THE PATTERN I HAVE THAT CALLS FOR A HOOD AND JUST LEFT THE HOOD OFF.  I CUT TWO BACKS OUT [THE FRONT WAS CUT TO LOW TO ACCOMMODATE THE HOOD]] AND THEN JUST TURNED THE NECK LINE UNDER TO MAKE THE NECK.  I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS WILL WORK OR IF IT WILL BE TOO BIG IN THE NECK ETC.  IT LOOKS FINE, BUT WHO KNOWS.  AND THEN THE HEART I APPLIQUED ON THE FRONT I USED A GLITTER FABRIC I USED TO MAKE HER A BOW AND MOCCASINS BEFORE SHE WAS BORN, AND HONESTLY I HAVE NO IDEA IF IT WILL WASH WELL OR NOT.  MAYBE IF SHE TURNS IT INSIDE OUT?  WHATEVER, THIS WAS FUN AND I LOVED THE WAY IT LOOKS ANYWAY.  DOES IT HAVE TO BE ACTUALLY WEARABLE?  LOL

CLOSER LOOK AT THE FAB AND THE GLITTERY HEART!

THIS FABRIC TOO IS REVERSIBLE AND IT SURE MAKES CHANGING THINGS UP TO COORDINATE SUPER SIMPLE.  THIS TIME I LEFT THE HOOD ON

CLOSER LOOK

AND ALL THREE OF THESE WERE JUST LEFT OVER KNIT FROM MY STASH.  IT DOESN'T TAKE MUCH TO MAKE HER LITTLE LEGGINGS.  I WAN'T TO EMBROIDER/APPLIQUE SOME ONSIES TO GO WITH THESE AND THEN I GUESS I WILL BE DONE FOR A LITTLE WHILE.  LOL

OK, I have some pics to finish up with and then I guess I can post this and its a good thing because my dryer is buzzing.  Laundry remains one of those things there is just no getting out of doesn't it? Hope you all have a nice week-end and had a cooler week then we did.  Blessings to you all!  Debbie

HELLO GRANDMA!  I AM READY TO TRY ON MY NEW CLOTHES!

GETTING ALL 3 OF THEM TO LOOK AT THE CAMERA AT THE SAME TIME WITH SMILES IS WAY WAY HARDER THEN YOU MIGHT THINK!  LOL   I THOUGHT THIS WAS PRETTY GOOD!

MISS CLAIRE IS GETTING BIG!

LOVED THIS PIC OF MY GIRL AND SAM!

QUICK STORY.....MELODY HAD DRAWN A LITTLE STICK MAN ON SAM'S HAND ONE MORNING BEFORE SCHOOL JUST FOR FUN AND TOLD HIM, YOU CAN PRETEND THIS IS MOMMY AND SHE WILL BE WITH YOU AT SCHOOL.  HE LOVED IT!  WELL THAT NIGHT HE CRIED WHEN SHE WASHED IT OFF IN THE TUB, SO HIS DADDY GAVE HIM A FRAMED PIC OF HIS MAMA TO KEEP ON HIS NIGHTSTAND NEXT TO HIS BED SO SHE IS WITH HIM WHEN HE SLEEPS.  HE LOVES THIS TOO.  LOL  SHE TOOK THIS PICTURE TO DOCUMENT THAT AT ALMOST 4 THIS LITTLE MAMA'S BOY HAD A PIC OF HIS MOTHER ON HIS NIGHTSTAND, LOL.  I HAVE A FEELING SOMEDAY HE WILL NEED PROOF!  LOL  SOOO SWEET AND PRECIOUS I THOUGHT!

MY MIDDLE SON JOHN AND HIS FIANCE JESSICA   SUCH A FUN NIGHT

HUBBY GOT MY EMBROIDERY FRAMED AND WE GOT ALL OF THE FALL DECOR UP OVER THE WEEK-END BUT MORE ON THAT LATER....JUST A LITTLE PEEK

  2. I have been thinking about you so glad you posted. Those outfits are just the cutest ever. I think Miss Claire will have the best little clothes of any little girl ever. Hasn't this heat been terrible? We have smoke from the fires so it really looks terrible and feels terrible. I think you have a tiny little miracle with that zipper foot. That is such a sweet story.

  5. The zipper foot story is such fun. I'd love to know how it got there too. God must have had a hand in it, knowing how important it is to you. :) You continue to sew the most wonderful little outfits. Your kids are blessed. The pictures are beautiful, as always. Those 2 brothers are going to keep a close on on their little sister. Precious!

  6. I wonder if that zipper foot was there the entire time? Maybe a second one packed with your machine originally - in error of course. Regardless of how it got there, it was a huge blessing for you and makes me glad that you have a zipper foot again (and the $$$ in your purse). ;-) All those clothes for Miss Claire are so, so adorable! You're quite a seamstress!
