WHAT'S TURNING INTO MY WEEKLY POST [not really hopefully!]

Well here it is Monday morning again and I guess it's time to get another post up.  Not really a whole lot different or new over here.  It's been H O T!!  We hit 104 yesterday and it suppose to be in the low to mid nineties all week.  I am officially over it, lol.  Seriously though I am soo looking forward to at least cool nights and mornings.  That's usually what our October's do, so it's almost here, right? Meanwhile our poor little air conditioner cranks away and costs us a small fortune for that privilege. But I am grateful!  We really may have to bite the bullet and replace it before next year as the poor thing is on it's last legs, but it did get the job done another season.

I was busy most of last week up to and including yesterday afternoon [I do my best NOT to sew on the week-ends, lol] finishing up all my projects that I wanted to get into the mail today with Sam's birthday presents, in time for Sam's birthday on Thursday.  We were hoping to maybe get out to New Mexico this week-end, but hubby just had too much going on at work to get away.  So guess we will have to wait until Thanksgiving.  It is looking pretty good that we will make it there for that, and my youngest son's family is hoping to join us there too.  That was soo much fun 2 years ago when we did it, and I hope all works out that we are able to do it again.  However, it does mean 2 more whole months before I see that particular set of grands and I am not going to lie.  I did some whining about it.  Especially I guess as little Claire is a baby and is changing of course practically daily, and I can hardly bear missing it all.  But my daughter is very good about sending pics, texts, videos, and phone chats so I am grateful for that, but as you know it's not the same as kissing little cheeks and hugging squirming little bodies.  Most of the time I am OK and on board moving along with this particular dilemma in my life, but every once in a while some whining does happen.  Anyway, other then some whining, I did get to another volleyball game of my grand daughter Lindsey last week and I am soo enjoying that.  I am promising myself to get a pic of her playing before the season is over.  And yesterday we took our grandson JD to lunch [of his choice!] after church to celebrate his ninth birthday! We hit toys r us afterwards to let him pick out his own gift.  Much easier I think, and we all enjoy it. We had such a good time with him.  He is the clone of his father in many ways, and is nothing but a complete delight to be around.  Can't believe he is already nine years old.  I did not snap a single picture yesterday, but I will post a quick pic of his adorable little self. Though just as a side note, there is NOTHING little about JD.  Such a big, BIG BOY!  LOL

SWEET JD

SUCH A GOOD BIG BROTHER

THEY ALL LOVE HIM
So I am a little behind in posting the things I've made, [not that you NEED to see them all of course, lol] but this blog is the best way for my sisters to see it and they seem to enjoy it.  I do post occasionally on instagram, but the pics on there are small and not easy to see as well when you get to be our age.  Plus, I can't always even get my pics to fit in the size they give you to post them either. So the blog it is.

OK FIRST WE HAVE THIS LITTLE OUTFIT.  IT WAS BASICALLY FREE, LOL, IN THAT I HAD ALL THE FABRIC ON HAND LEFT OVER FROM OTHER PROJECTS IN THE PAST.  I USED THE NEW LITTLE ONESIE PATTERN I FOUND WITH A COLLAR AND PUFFY SLEEVES.  IT ZIPS UP THE BACK AND SNAPS IN THE CROTCH.  THEN I EMBROIDERED A DESIGN ON THE FRONT MATCHING THE COLORS AND MADE A HEADBAND TO COMPLETE THE OUTFIT.  I LOVE LOVE THIS ONE.  HOPE IT FITS HER

LITTLE CLOSER LOOK AT THE DESIGN.  DO YOU NOTICE THAT THE C IS APPLIQUED WITH THE FABRIC THAT MADE THE LEGGINGS AND COLLAR OF THIS OUTFIT?  HAVE TO LOOK CLOSE, LOL

THEN I JUST PICKED UP THIS LITTLE ONESIE AT HOBBY LOBBY FOR 2.50 WHEN THEY WERE ON SALE TO COMPLETE THIS ONE.  LEFT OVER FABRIC FOR LEGGINGS, AND THE LITTLE GOLD BOW I MADE WITH A FREE LACE DESIGN....MORE ABOUT THAT BELOW

NOW I HAD ALREADY MADE THESE LEGGINGS AND SHOWED YOU [I THINK] BUT I HAD ENOUGH TO MAKE THE SLEEVES AT LEAST FOR A LITTLE TOP, AND I ALWAYS HAVE WHITE KNIT ON HAND, SO I DECIDED TO MAKE A LITTLE TOP FOR THIS PAIR OF LEGGINGS TOO.  I KIND OF MADE THE NECK UP AS THIS IS THE SAME PATTERN AS BEFORE THAT USUALLY CALLS FOR THE HOODIE.  BUT RATHER THEN JUST TURNING THE NECK UNDER THIS TIME, I ADDED A LITTLE PIECE AT THE NECK AND STRETCHED IT TO FIT.  LOOKS OK, BUT STILL NOT SURE IF IT WILL FIT.  LOVE THE LITTLE BIRD I APPLIQUED ON THE FRONT OF THIS, BUT HONESTLY I WISH IT WERE HIGHER....HE'S A LITTLE LOW ON THE TOP TO SUIT ME, BUT NOT BAD ENOUGH TO DO OVER, LOL  I JUST HOPE THE NECKLINE WORKS  OH, AND ENOUGH FABRIC STILL TO MAKE A MATCHING HEADBAND AS WELL

MELODY MENTIONED THAT SHE COULD USE SOME MORE BIBS AS CLAIRE IS DROOLING UP A STORM..  MOST 5 MONTH OLD BABIES DO, SO NOT REALLY TOO SHOCKING.  MELODY LOVES THE TRIANGLE BIBDANA'S THAT ARE SOO POPULAR RIGHT NOW AS THEY ARE STYLISH AS WELL AS PRACTICAL.  I JUST KNOW THEY ARE EASY.  VERY LITTLE FABRIC AND SOOO QUICK.  I PUT PLAIN WHITE FLANNEL ON THE BACK OF THESE BIBS [ALWAYS HAVE THAT ON HAND TOO!] WHICH HELPS TO MAKE THEM A LITTLE MORE PRACTICAL  AS WELL AS CUTE.  I TOP STITCHED THEM ALL IN A LITTLE DECORATIVE STITCH TO FANCY THEM UP A BIT TOO, LOL

BOTH OF THESE ARE NOT ON HERE STRAIGHT, BUT I AM TRYING TO HURRY AND YOU GET THE IDEA!  LOL

ANOTHER ONE

NOW THESE ARE THE KIND GRANDMA PREFERS, LOL   THEY ARE WAY MORE FUN TO MAKE AND I HAVE ENOUGH SCRAP FABRIC TO MAKE HUNDREDS I BET, LOL  I ADDED HER NAME AND THE LITTLE HEARTS TO THIS ONE, AND THE FLOWER WAS MADE WITH  FREE LACE DESIGNS.  I COULD BECOME OBSESSED [YES MORE THEN I AM, LOL] WITH MAKING THESE FREE LACE DESIGN THINGS.  YOU CAN MAKE FLOWERS, HEARTS, BOWS, ORNAMENTS, COLLARS, AND ON AND ON AND ON.  ANY COLOR YOU WANT AND CLOSE TO ANY SIZE AS WELL  THIS IS TWO FLOWERS WHERE I FLIP FLOPPED THE COLORS AND THEN GLUED THEM TOGETHER AND GLUED THEM ON THE BIB.   THE BACK OF THIS ONE IS DONE IN TERRY CLOTH.  MY PERSONAL FAVE HERE, LOL  [couldn't tell could ya?]

AND HERE'S ANOTHER ONE.  THOUGH ON THIS ONE I USED JUST ONE FABRIC INSTEAD OF COORDINATING TWO, AND ADDED THE NEW INITIAL DESIGN AND ANOTHER FREE LACE FLOWER IN DIFFERENT COLORS.....SOOO FUN  I SPENT ONE WHOLE DAY MAKING FLOWERS AND BOWS.  SOME ENDED UP ON BIBS, ONE ON THE ONESIE, AND SOME ON HEAD BOWS.  I HAD TO FORCE MYSELF TO STOP, LOL

AND THEN I THINK I MENTIONED THAT LUKE NEEDED A FALL PILLOWCASE WHEN SAM POPS HIS FROM LAST YEAR OUT, SO HE WOULDN'T FEEL LEFT OUT.   THIS FABRIC IS SOO CUTE.  I LOVED IT.  MADE THIS YESTERDAY AFTER WE GOT HOME AS I NEEDED TO PUT IT IN THE MAIL THIS MORNING SO HE CAN USE IT IN NOV.  I WILL CONFESS I KIND OF HAD TO FORCE MYSELF AS I WAS TIRED, BUT GOT ER DONE.
So other then this I haven't been on much.  lol  I know it seems like I must not do much of anything BUT sew, and honestly I guess it's true.  I'd like to pretend it's because I am industrious and hard working, but besides the fact that I thoroughly enjoy doing it, it is about all I feel I can do these days anyway.  My knees have been SOO bad.  I know I know I KNOW I need to just go ahead and get the surgeries done, but there is just always something stopping me [recently it has been wanting these dumb shingles to be completely behind me first!] and not to mention the fact I just can't bear the whole thing.  Maybe if I could do them at the same time [she refuses, I've asked twice!] and get it over with, but I am looking at one with 4 months to completely recover, and I still have the other looming as well.  That's eight months of messing with it not to mention the pain etc.  I guess I am a baby, but I have had soo many surgeries and I know what's involved all too well....sigh.   Plus, I have read in a few places now that they have a new procedure that they are doing more and more on these knee replacements where they don't cut into the tendon and the recovery period is cut in half and the whole thing is not nearly as bad.  So I keep thinking SURELY it will become the standard way soon and ALL the docs will use it.  Mine does not....asked already.  And the ones that do around here my insurance doesn't work for.  But maybe soon huh? I am thinking come spring one way or another I am on it.  I had that planned for this last spring but got shingles instead.  I KNOW I would have preferred knee replacement surgery, lol.  I guess all the sewing is because I MUST be busy doing something.  I soo prefer it.  So for now I am grateful I have something I CAN do, that I enjoy that serves a purpose besides.  This week I am moving back to Christmas projects.  I still have another Advent Calendar to make, and some more ornaments, and some stockings as well.  And I am debating the Christmas jammies this year....we will see.  I will leave you [if your still here, lol] with my grandkid pics of the week.  Hope you all have joyful, busy, happy weeks!  Blessings to you all!  Debbie

  1. Your sewing projects are all so amazing. I wish I liked to sew, but I just have never gotten into it. I even took lessons at Singer. I can do my own mending and repairing of some things and I've even made valances for my windows, but that's about the extent. My sewing machine rarely gets used.

All your grandkids are so adorable. I love seeing their pictures.

Hope you can get those shingles completely kicked. My hubby had them once and said they were very painful. He also needs knee surgery, but keeps putting it off. Maybe one of these days he'll give in. :)

    Take care!

  2. You sure do have beautiful grands! I can't get over how much like her brothers Claire looks. Definitely they'll never be able to deny each other. Vinny looks like all engineers everywhere...darling! All your creations are marvelous. Hey, it keeps you busy and off the streets. Hope that the new knee surgery becomes the way so that you can get some relief. Don't get me started on healthcare in this country. What a nightmare.

  3. I agree with Vee, Debbie, Claire, Sam and Luke look so much alike, and are absolutely beautiful, as all of your grandchildren are, it has been such a joy to see all of them be born and grow, so fast! I think us grandmothers have the right to whine once and in a while! especially when we don't get to see our precious grands for a while!~smile~
Your sewing amazes me like nothing I can describe, you are truly gifted.I can see the love, and time you put in each item.
I pray you will get some relief for your knees, my dh has had some knee problems this past year, and finally got some relief with the rooster cone shot, and that the shingles will soon be gone for good, I so relate to the shingles, if I am under any type of stress , mine will flare up!
So glad to be able to visit, just haven't been online for a while until today.
    Love from me to you,
    Sue

  4. As always, your sewing is amazing and I can certainly see why you enjoy it so much. As to your knees, I have sooo many friends that have had knee replacement and they have all done so well and were so, so glad they did it. And, had a friend that had hers done a year apart. So, I think you will definitely be glad you did it but I'm sure it's hard to find a good time to do it. Hugs!

  5. Debbie, sewing seems like such a good use of your time! First of all, you are good at it. Secondly, you bless others with your creations. Thirdly (and this is related to the second), you are creating tangible memories for your children, grandchildren, and even your friends and other family. How cool is it to be spending our time making heirlooms?!!

I pray that the Lord leads you to the right time to have something done about your knees. There are always so many factors that go into a decision like this. You need His guidance!

  7. Darling grands, Debbie! And your outfits and sewing are, as always, super.
I'm sorry for your knee pain. I understand the dread of surgery, but I do
hear that they have come a long way with knee replacement.
    take care-Kim

  8. Hi sweet friend, I'm sorry I have been so behind in visit-just about the time I get overwhelmed with my schedule I see all you've been doing and I really have no reason to get behind. I love all that you've done/made for your grands-wow is all I can say. I'm staying busy with bible study, quilting, teaching sewing to four granddaughters, blogging(when I have time and can find a way to be interesting)and now starting to make some note cards for my girls for Christmas...what am I thinking adding one more thing to my schedule. I pray that when the time is right for you to have knee surgery it will be a piece of cake! Sending you hugs and lots of love.

  9. No offense, but the once a week blogging is fitting my reading schedule just fine. I don't want to spend too much time online, so when I take the time to check in, I don't want to be reading all day. Ha! The beach is calling my name after all. I pray that you will find peace about knee replacement and when you do choose to get them replaced, that the recovery will be quick and pain free. I don't edit my photos when I post to Instagram. I'm not sure if it's because my photos are already on my iPad, where I post from or if I'm just lucky ... But I think everything shows up adequately. At least I hope so.

  10. It seems like many are dropping off a little in blog frequency, me included. Life does get busy sometimes, as you well know! My hubby is scheduled for knee replacement in October. I think he will be really glad when it is DONE and he is mending. You will do fine Debbie, and probably will wish you had done it sooner. :)

Beautiful babies and kids... oh how I love your pictures! And the clothes... !!!! :)

  11. My dad had a knee replacement 20 years ago and dreads another one. His knees are bad and has to start thinking of this again. But his surgeon said the techniques are so much better now and not as hard to go through. But I do get why you're putting it off. The grands are adorable; that Claire ...oh my! I am also going to visit my family for Thanksgiving. I can't wait to hold my niece Kristin's 3 month old Kameron and 3 year old Kenzie.
