SOME FRIDAY HAPPENINGS....

Well it's late in the afternoon on Friday so I decided I'd better wrap up the sewing for the day and get a post up.  I've had a pretty busy couple of days, but it felt good.  I took the new quilt to the NEW shop that my quilter has opened up, and I really liked it!  Not surprising I guess when I know we seem to like the same sort of quilts and fabrics etc.  It's not too far from here either in Norco.  Not that it's close either of course, but it only took me about 25 minutes on the freeway.  I could have spent a wad of money in there but I refrained and didn't spend anything at all, lol.  But I'll be back that's for sure. She carried a little supply of the nice printed gauze which is perfect to make swaddling blankets which is all the rage right now for babies, and Joannes does not carry.  Hobby Lobby has a nice solid color gauze, but no prints.  I can find the printed gauze online but it is 17 dollars a yard which just seems ridiculous!  I want to make a self binded blanket out of it which means I would need two pieces.  A 40 by 40, and a 30 by 30.  That makes that blanket kind of pricey obviously.  No wonder they sell in the specialty shops for minimum 40 dollars, and as much as sixty!  Crazy!  And that's not for a double layered one either.  I could just make a single layer I guess and hem it up, but I really liked the way the double one looks and it is still SUPER light and airy.  She was selling hers for 12 dollars a yard so it seemed quite a bit better...but truthfully is still expensive.  I made Melody a couple for Claire out of the solid color from Hobby Lobby [just the single layer ones] and she used them both to pieces. Probably because they are soo light and Claire was a late spring baby just as Sophia Rose will be.  I am dwelling on what I am going to do about a guaze one for now, lol, but I have a feeling I will probably stick with Hobby Lobby's plain ones.  It is only six dollars for a yard which is much more in my price range for a blanket.  Will see....She also had a baby play mat quilt on the wall that I positively adored.  Just the cutest thing ever.  And she was selling kits of it for only 30 dollars!  Seemed almost free, lol.  That doesn't count the backing or the binding, but still pretty good. Trust me if I hadn't already made a quilt for the new baby that would have been in my hands, and it might be anyway.  It would just be darling for either Sophia or Claire. And another selling point for me is that it is one of those quilts that has different sized blocks that all work together which I love and I don't have the slightest idea how to do. This would teach me I am sure. And finally she had some adorable fabric I could use to make bibs out of but I really want to finish up the burp cloths before I start on bibs or a couple of little outfits.  So as you can see I had a lot to resist, lol, but I did pretty good!  I have finally started on the burp cloths.  I have SOOO much flannel in my stash that so far I am just using that.  Not sure if I will even buy any.  I want to make her up a dozen of them which seems like a lot, but considering they are basically free why not as they are sooooo useful!  I've managed to make 4 in the last couple of days and I have thoroughly enjoyed myself doing so.  They are ridiculously easy of course, and I can play with them using my decorative stitches etc.  I intend to applique some but haven't got to that yet.  Let me show you what I've got so far.  Apologizing in advance for the quality of these pics.  I REALLY need to do something about this I know...

I DECIDED THAT I WOULD QUILT MOST OF THESE BURP CLOTHS AS MELODY HAS TOLD ME THOSE ARE THE ONES THAT REALLY HOLD UP THE BEST.  I MAKE THESE 3 LAYERS THICK FOR EXTRA ABSORBENCY.  IT DOES TAKE QUITE A BIT MORE TIME OF COURSE, BUT IS REALLY PRETTY SIMPLE TO DO AND ALLOWS ME TO USE MY DECORATIVE STITCHES.  I PUT THE PURPLE AT THE ENDS AS I JUST HAD A LITTLE OF IT.

THE FLIP SIDE IS WHITE.  LOVED HOW THIS LOOKS

CLOSE UP OF THE DAISY STITCH.  MY MACHINE DOES LIKE A BAJILLION DECORATIVE STITCHES AND I LOVE HAVING THE EXCUSE TO PLAY WITH THEM, LOL

THIS PICTURE IS SO CRUMMY SO DON'T KNOW IF YOU CAN TELL, BUT THOSE ARE BABY CARRIAGES I PUT ON THERE.  DIDN'T THINK I'D EVER HAVE A NEED TO STITCH THOSE, AND YET NEVER SAID NEVER!
HOW CUTE IS THIS BEE FABRIC?

I WISH I HAD MORE YELLOW FABRIC HERE, BUT I MADE DO

THOSE ARE BUTTERFLYS FOR THE QUILTING STITCHES HERE
THESE NEXT TWO ARE SUPER BAD QUALITY PIC'S AND I AM NOT SURE WHY...SIGH...BUT I DECIDED TO BIND THESE LIKE YOU WOULD A QUILT.  I USED A CHEVRON GREEN TO BIND UP THESE ELEPHANTS AND ITS PRETTY CUTE, BUT HONESTLY TAKES TOO LONG FOR A SIMPLE BURP CLOTH SO PROBABLY WON'T DO TOO MANY MORE OF THESE IF ANY, LOL

JUST A CLOSE UP [BLURRY THOUGH IT IS!] OF THE STITCHES I USED TO QUILT THIS ONE

AND HONESTLY THIS PICTURE DOES NOT DO THIS ONE JUSTICE, LOL.  I BOUND IT TOO WITH A CUTE COORDINATING FABRIC THAT I HAD JUST ENOUGH OF TO DO IT WITH.  SAVED THIS PLAIN PINK DESIGN FROM BEING REALLY PLAIN.  BUT THE BEST PART IS THOSE ARE ROSES I USED TO QUILT IT WITH!

YOU CAN SEE IT A LITTLE BETTER HERE
My last load is buzzing in the dryer, and I still need to water my plants out front so I better jump off of here and get that done.  Hubby is going to bbq steaks tonight....yum....so all I have to do is pop a couple of potatoes in the over and make a salad.  And we have a taped Downton Abby to watch, and an American Idol.  Sounds like a good Friday night to me.  Hope you all have a good week-end! Blessings to you all!  Debbie  OH....just a couple of quick grand kid pics...

MY HELLO GRANDMA PIC FROM NEW MEXICO THIS MORNING!  GUESS THEY ARE HAVING GORGEOUS WEATHER....PRETTY NICE HERE TOO ACTUALLY!  ALL LOOKING AT THE CAMERA AND ALL SMILING IS ALMOST A MIRACLE, LOL

AND A CLOSE UP OF MISS CLAIRE.  MY GOODNESS NO ONE WOULD KNOW IT QUITE LIKE ME BUT SHE IS JUST A CLONE OF HER MAMA.  I AM LOVING IT!

  6. Oh what fun, more baby sewing!! Those look so soft and cozy! She will get so much use out of them! And the kids are getting so big. Little Claire....she is precious!
I have to ask you, where is this quilt shop in Norco? The only I know of is Sewn Together. They are small, but getting better and better with more stock all the time. I am taking a class there on Thursday, in fact. Is this the shop? The owner does long arm quilting too.
    I can't wait to hear...
