NEW BEDROOM COMFORTER...SOME SEWING...AND A NEW BIBLE STUDY!

I had every intention of putting up more posts last week, but somehow it just never happened.  I didn't even have a ridiculously busy week, so I am not sure what I was even doing, lol.  Let me just catch you up a bit around here.  I did get over to the quilt shop and get my quilt dropped off.  I am not going to get it back until July first, so that is going to make it a bit pressed for me to get it finished up before her birthday [also in July] but I am soo glad to have it at the quilters.

I was going to get busy on the quilt kit I bought a few weeks ago, but decided instead to make a few other things first.  I had purchased some cute knit fabric when it was on sale, and wanted to make up my grand daughter Capri some new skirts.  She loves the skirts I make for her, and sticks pretty much to just wearing those, so I wanted to give her a little more variety, lol.  I also had found a pattern in her size for a sleeveless top, and a tank top as well, so I made her up a couple of them as well.  They were all easy, quick, and what I call "mindless" sewing.  I needed a little of that kind before I move onto that quilt kit, lol.  Let me show you....

THOUGHT THIS FABRIC WAS SUPER CUTE.  THIS IS THE TANK TOP PATTERN

LOVED THIS REVERSIBLE FABRIC, AND THIS ONE GOT THE SLEEVELESS TOP

CLOSER LOOK AT THE TWO FABRICS....THE SKIRT IS THE POLKA DOT, THE TOP IS THE STRIPED WITH THE BINDINGS ON THE NECK AND SLEEVES DONE IN THE POLKA DOTS

TIE DYE SKIRT....BOUGHT THIS FABRIC AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGEMENT AS IT IS NOT THE KIND OF KNIT I LIKE TO WORK WITH....IT ROLLED BADLY.  ANY OF YOU WORKING WITH KNIT KNOWS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT...I DO LIKE THE WAY IT CAME OUT, AND I AM PRETTY SURE SHE IS GOING TO LOVE THIS ONE, SO I AM GLAD NOW I HASSLED IT.
I have a darling little outfit I want to whip up for Claire next, but after that the plan is to take on the next quilt.

Saturday hubby and I decided to take on a little extra cleaning around here, and so hubby shampooed all of our carpets.  Which is really just the two bedrooms, the living room, and then the huge area rug in our family room.  Everything else is tiled.  But even this much takes quite a while.  But it was a nice warm day for them to dry, and it was soo time.  I have probably mentioned that we bought our home shampooer years ago, so we try to do this 3 or 4 times a year.  It was definitely one of our smarter buys as we have used the thing to death.  I got all of the curtains throughout the house washed and dried and ironed and back up so I was feeling pretty accomplished too.  Then!  I bought us a new comforter for our bed.  Goodness HOW I debated on this, lol.  Part of me wanted to make EVERYTHING.  A quilt, a bed skirt, new curtains, shams, decorative pillows etc.  But truthfully just trying to find fabric and dwelling on the pattern etc. had me stressed, not to mention my recent discoveries on me and quilting, that I finally decided what in the world am I stressing for?  lol.  And truthfully I KNEW it would probably cost me at least double the amount of money as well.  Sooo I bought us a new comforter set that came with shams and a bed skirt, and then a few decorative pillows as well. All on sale.......all good prices.  I decided to stick with the same color theme so that I didn't need to change the paint, curtains, pictures, and nick knacks that go with it.  Plus, I really still like everything I have so why go to all the expense and trouble, right?  I decided to leave the new bed skirt off as I really like the wood of the bed showing,  and I honestly wasn't that thrilled with the included bed skirt anyway.  I did rearrange mom's chair in there a little bit and I like that whole look better too. Let me show you...

VIEW SITTING IN MOM'S CHAIR OPPOSITE OF THIS....LIGHTING IS NOT GOOD WITH THOSE WINDOWS, OR COLORING EITHER, BUT I DO THINK YOU GET THE IDEA.  EVEN ALL MY LAMPS STILL GO WITH  COLOR THEME.  I'VE HAD SOME OF THINGS FOR YEARS....LOL

JUST HAD TO SHOW YOU HOW WELL MISS BEAR STILL MATCHES TOO

LOVE MY ANGEL...SHE HAS HUNG IN OUR BEDROOM FOR YEARS...GOOD THING SHE WASHES UP SOOO WELL, LOL

HAD THIS BOOKCASE SINCE THE SECOND YEAR WE MARRIED [SO OVER 40 YEARS!] AND IT HAS HOUSED MORE DIFFERENT SETS OF BOOKS AND BEEN IN MORE ROOMS THEN YOU CAN IMAGINE, BUT IT FOUND IT'S WAY TO OUR ROOM ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO, AND HOLDS MY TREASURED COLLECTIONS OF MY FAVORITE CHRISTIAN  NOVELISTS.    LOVE IT THERE

VIEW OPPOSITE THE BED.  THAT'S MOM'S CHAIR THAT SHE BROUGHT HERE WHEN SHE MOVED IN, AND THE LITTLE STAND HE BOUGHT TO SIT BY IT.  I LOVE THAT I KEPT IT AND HAVE IT IN HERE..  I HOPE TO START DOING MY DEVOTIONALS HERE EVERY MORNING.  ON THE BACK OF IT IS THE PIECE OF THE QUILT WE ALL GOT [ONCE I DIVIDED IT UP] THAT WAS MADE BY MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER.  EVERY SINGLE BIT OF IT WAS DONE BY HAND [EXCEPT THE BINDING I PUT ON IT!] AND I HAVE AN ADDED APPRECIATION OF IT NOW TRUST ME THAT I HAVE DONE SOME QUILTING MYSELF.  GUESS I MUST HAVE HAD SOME THINGS IN COMMON WITH MY GREAT MOTHER, THOUGH I NEVER MET HER.

ANOTHER VIEW......THE BEAR COUPLE SITTING THERE WAS GIVEN TO US ON OUR ANNIVERSARY A FEW YEARS AGO BY MY SISTER, AND PLAYS "YOUR STILL THE ONE" LOL, AND THAT PILLOW WAS MADE FOR ME BY MY BLOGGING FRIEND JANETTE AT JANETTE SAGE BACK WHEN I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH BREAST CANCER SIX YEARS AGO NOW.  I LOVE IT!  AND IT HAS ALWAYS MATCHED OUR BEDROOM DECOR PERFECTLY AS WELL

CLOSER LOOK AT MY PIECE OF THE QUILT.  YOU CAN FIND THE STORY ABOUT THIS HERE IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.
And then I wanted to tell you about a new bible study that we are going to get involved in.  My niece Jessica [the one with the miraculous story in the post above this] and her husband Phil have decided to open their home for a home fellowship/bible study that my son James is going to come up from San Diego and teach for them.  They only live a little over a half hour away from us so this will enable us to enjoy my son's teaching without driving all the way down to San Diego so it works for us really well, lol.  It's going to be on Sunday afternoons, and hopefully enable many to attend a weekly study/service that is difficult for them under ordinary circumstances.  I was really surprised to tell you the truth that my son was willing to do this as his Sundays are soo busy already of course, but he said he has actually been praying about this for quite a while, and felt the Lord leading him in this direction.  It looks like it is going to be PACKED which is a good thing of course, so we will see how it goes.  Don't know if we will even fit in the house very long.  It is always exciting to see how the Lord works.

I have got a lot going on this week.  My niece Katie [who is sixteen] came home with us after the study yesterday afternoon, and is going to spend a couple of days hanging out with me.  She and I are going to go to lunch and to the movies later and I am looking forward to a relaxing day.  She's still sleeping right now....oh to be sixteen again, lol.  And then my Jeffie graduates from the sixth grade tomorrow, and Wed. I have an appointment with an orthopedic about these knees.  We will see what he has to say.  My x-rays showed SEVERE osteoarthritis, which didn't surprise me of course, as that's what they said six years ago.  It might be finally time for the knee replacement surgery on one of them this summer.  My old orthopedic wouldn't even consider doing them at the same time, but maybe this guy will have another thought on it.  Though I may be too heavy for him to consider it at all right now, so I guess I will have to see what he thinks before I speculate too much.   Other then these things I hope to get to at least the outfit for Claire.

I hope you all have a GOOD week.  Many blessings to you all....I'll leave you with a few quick grandkid pics and a little video of Claire IF I can get it to work.

  5. I love those outfits you made for Capri. I know my grand girls would love them too.
I really like your new comforter too. You have a nice big bedroom. Your book case is nice as well. You Bible Study sounds nice. I am going go back and read that story about quilt. I guess I wasn't reading you yet.
Have a wonderful and busy week. I had to laugh, I had to break down and buy a new carpet shampooer yesterday. Ours is old too and completely wore out. Ron had fixed it and fixed it. I hope I like the new one as much as I liked the old one. I am doing carpets this week too.

  6. There is nothing like that little baby-walk! So cute!!

I, too, love the outfits you made for Capri! You have a good eye for choosing fabrics and designs.

You're a busy, busy gal, Debbie...all that cleaning and sewing. I feel like a slacker when I read your posts! :)

  7. Adorable little outfits. I don't like working with knits. When they became so popular back in the day, that's when I quit making garments. So I admire your ability to work with them. I pray that you will not postpone your knee replacements for too long, my dear. My dad did and now he is too old and is almost immobile.

  8. Debbie, what a lovely post, and the photos of your babies, and that video of Claire, so sweet. I'm always in awe of your sewing and I love the new look in the bedroom.

As for your knees, my sister-in-law had a knee replacement about a month or so ago now. She is doing as well as can be expected, but I wouldn't suggest bot knees at once. She will have the other one done about six months out. Good luck.
