PJ TIME....

Well I've decided I need a little break from my sewing machine so I decided to put up a quick post so as to not get sooo far behind again.  So let's see.....Not much out of the ordinary happened last week-end, but I did want to tell you about the movie we saw on Sat. afternoon.  It is called,  I am not ashamed.  It is the true story of a young christian girl who was killed in the Columbine high school shootings.  Now as you can imagine there was A LOT of sadness in this movie, and truthfully I found myself in tears a few times, but it was REALLY good.  It was soo inspiring.  I made me stop and really think again at how much God can and does do when we truly live for Him.  I could easily see this again, so I am thinking I might be taking my high school grand daughter Lindsey to see this, and my niece Katie.  I think there is MUCH there for them to think about too.

Other then that Sunday was spent our "new" usual way, lol.  We have begun attending our old church again on Sunday mornings as this allows us time to worship with my oldest son and his family, and we also take my niece Katie along frequently too.  Then we have a LONG leisurely lunch out with them, and leave from there to attend the Bible study my son teaches at my other nieces house. Afterwards we have dinner with my son, and don't pull back into our driveway until after 7 or so.  It's a LONG day, but honestly by far my favorite.  It just doesn't get a whole lot better.  Worship, bible study, good messages, and time with family.

And then the rest of this week has been spent at the sewing machine.  I have made 10 pairs of PJ'S so far.  3 of those pairs are NOT Christmas jammies though I guess I should say.  Melody loved the fabric from this shop that I found as well, and bought (ok, at my suggestion and somewhat insistence! lol) this particular fabric as I honestly just couldn't resist it.  It is just SOO adorable.  Pricey, unfornately, but adorable.  And let me just say this, it might be the nicest to work with knit I have ever worked with.  As a general rule knit fabric (in my opinion) can at times be a real pain to work with.  It rolls, stretches, at times just won't lay still, and has been known to suck down the throat plate in an annoying fashion as well .  MANY times I have wanted to pick projects up and pitch the whole thing into a trash can.  But this fabric so far has just been a dream.  Anyway, let me show you these jammies first.

THESE ARE SAM, LUKE'S AND CLAIRE'S OBVIOUSLY.  THE PATTERNS FOR THIS ARE ALSO FROM THIS SHOP WHICH IS CALLED PEEKABOOFABRIC.  THIS LADY HAS GOT TO BE CLEANING UP.  SHE DESIGNS THE PATTERNS, THE FABRICS, AND THE PANELS.  and sells them for a pretty penny too, lol  SHE CAN HARDLY KEEP THEM IN THE SHOP, AND I RAN DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO NOT HAVING ENOUGH TO EVEN FINISH THESE  THEY COULDN'T BE QUICKER OR EASIER TO MAKE EITHER, WHICH IS NICE

JUST A CLOSER LOOK AT ONE OF THOSE PANELS.  YOU BUY THE GRAFFIC ON A PANEL OF FABRIC AND USE IT FOR YOUR FRONT PIECE OF COURSE.  I FELT LIKE I HAD AN ADVANTAGE IN FITTING THIS JUST RIGHT AS I HAVE WORKED WITH EMBROIDERY SOO MUCH IN PLACEMENT.  THE BACK OF THIS TOP IS THE SAME FABRIC AS THE SLEEVES.  I ADDED THE YELLOW AND WHITE STRIPE FOR THE CUFFS AND NECKLINE AS I THOUGHT IT WAS CUTE AND BROUGHT IN A LITTLE MORE COLOR.

Ok, then let me show the Christmas PJ's I have finished.  Will start with Sam, Luke, and Claire.

THE GREEN IS LUKE'S AND THE RED IS SAM'S.....I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS FABRIC!  I THINK IT IS JUST ADORABLE.  I DID THE CUFFS ON THE BOTTOMS AND THE SLEEVES IN A PLAIN BLACK RIBBING, BUT I DID THE NECK OUT OF THE PLAID AS I THOUGHT THAT LOOKED NICE.

JUST A LITTLE CLOSER LOOK.   VINNY, AND JD WILL BOTH HAVE THIS SET AS WELL.  VINNY'S ARE DONE, BUT JD'S ARE ON MY CUTTING TABLE.

AND THIS IS CLAIRE'S....AGAIN, I JUST LOVE THE FABRIC!  I USED TWO FABRICS ON THIS ONE RATHER THEN A PLAIN RIBBING FOR THE CUFFS AND NECK, AND I LOVE IT.  SUCH A CUTE LINE.  DONATELLA AND SOPHIA HAVE THIS EXACT PAIR AS WELL.  I HAVE ALREADY MADE THEIRS TOO.
THESE ARE CODY'S....AGAIN, I JUST LOVE THE FABRIC.  THIS PANEL IS SOO CUTE, AND THE VINTAGE LIKE COORDINATE IS ADORABLE WITH THE SNOWMEN, SANTA'S AND RUDOLPH.
Next on my list is JD.  "IF" there is enough left of the fabric (and it think there will be!) I will make a pair of PJ bottoms for Jeffie.  At almost 13 and in Junior High this year he thinks he may be little too old for Christmas jammies, lol.  But the black and green plaid is pretty tame, and I will probably just make him a plain black t shirt to go with.   And then I have Capri.  She does NOT like PJ's period, but prefers a nightgown, so I will accommodate her as well.  Then!  IF I have the time I might whip up Lindsey a pair of pj bottoms as well.  I have cut 21 year old Evan and 20 year old Annabel from my list this year as I have to draw the line somewhere, someday,  lol.  I did add on Annabel's daughter Sophia, which if any new little ones are born I will add more as well of course.

Soooo that is honestly about all I've been up to.  I have 3 weeks until Melody arrives for Thanksgiving for a week, which means I have just 3 weeks to finish up the rest of my Christmas sewing.  I still need to make the tree skirts, get the banners strung on ribbon, put candy canes in my snowmen ornaments, and finish up the remaining jammies.  PLUS!  I have a few new ornaments for my own tree, the fabric garland, and a couple other gifts for my sisters, nieces, and friends...whew....I don't know if I'll pull it all off or not.  I have them lined up in order of what is most important, and other then those tree skirts and remaining to be done pj's I am really pretty good in the "must have done" category.

Believe it or not we will start decorating our house for Christmas tomorrow.  I know this sounds ridiculous, but I want it all done BY Thanksgiving, (actually the Monday before!) as by the time Melody comes for a week and leaves we will be into December and our packed December schedule. This way too we can just do a little each week-end and not be totally stressed getting it up.  We have done this for the last 3 or 4 years and it works really well for us.   Tomorrow will just be outdoor lights.  We will not "light it up" until after Thanksgiving, but hopefully we will get the majority of that done tomorrow.

I will leave you with a few cute pics, and then I'd better scoot back to the sewing machine.  In order to stay on my schedule, I need to finish up JD's today, lol.

  1. Oh those jammies are all so darling! Wonderful fabrics and great expressions...not your run of the mill average jammies. The matching sibling sets are too cute. You must be feeling on top of things now.

How exciting to have family coming for Thanksgiving! Lots of planning and preps for sure. All joy...

So sweet to see little Sophia with her grandpapa.

  2. I love the pajamas that you're making! I am partial to buffalo checks, so those are my favorites. It's a little sad that some of your grandchildren have outgrown the Christmas pj's, but that's how life is. (My mom wanted to include ALL of her grandchildren in her Christmas card every year, even after my oldest daughter was married, but Kristin finally refused when she was pregnant with her first child! Good for you for letting it go before there was mutiny! LOL)

  3. I just love your sewing!! I look at my machine and think...now I wished I had Debbie's ambition. Oh the movie, haven't seen it yet, but remember when it happened like it was yesterday. I probably remember because of the age of my kids at the time. Great pictures, as always!!

  4. Your sewing is simply amazing and then you say "that's about all I've been up to!" Your grandkids are lucky kids to have such unique pj's and I will be looking forward to seeing your Christmas decorations. I could use some good ideas. I haven't seen that movie, but I saw another inspiring one called Greater. Will have to check out the I Am Not Ashamed. That was truly such a tragic event, but Rachel's story has been quite a testimony to the world.
