BACK TO SEWING FINALLY....

It's almost 5 on Monday afternoon and I really should be getting dinner in the over, so this will be quick.  I don't want to fall behind on my Monday posts though so here it goes.

Let's see....I have FINALLY managed to get back to my sewing machine.  I think it's like everything else with me.  I am kind of an addictive person.  I'd like to think that isn't true, but honestly it just kind of is.  Once I get going on anything, I tend to just keep going on it, sometimes downright over doing it.  It is true of many things I have done over the years....eating, exercise, sewing, eating, reading, decorating, and did I mention EATING?  sigh.  It CAN be a good thing, but more often then not I just have to really watch myself so as to NOT fall into a frantic overload.  Anyway, I found the old fever for sewing this week, and I made up a lot of stuff that I have been wanting to get to.

I found MORE adorable fabric, and new shops and patterns, and I really had myself a very good time. Let me show it.....First I made up Claire's pj's.  I loved the flannel fabric I found in her beloved Paw Patrol, but of course again, using a flannel verses a knit, meant I needed to find a pattern that would accommodate.  I couldn't find one like I did for the boys that pulled on over her head, so I head to go with a button up the front.  It wasn't hard (I've made a bajillion over the years) but you do forget how much more work goes into one of those tops verses the quick and easy pull over the head knits.  Plus, finding a pattern in a size that was going to fit her proved to be kind of hard to.  I finally cut out a 1 and cut it to fit her.  Thank goodness I have taught Melody how to take proper measurements, so that helps alot.  Lot me show you these...

THIS PARTICULAR PATTERN HAD A FRONT BINDING PIECE TOO, WHICH IS CUTE, BUT ADDED UNNECESSARY WORK IN MY OPINION, LOL.  I DID PUT A LITTLE DECORATIVE STITCH IN LAVENDER DOWN THE FRONT OF IT THOUGH, BUT DIDN'T PUT THE BUTTONS OR BUTTONHOLES IN THIS UNTIL SUN AFTERNOON

JUST A CLOSER LOOK AT THE SOFT ADORABLE FABRIC....FOUND THIS ONLINE

I GOT THIS ALL CUT AND READY FOR JEFF, AND HE TIED IT UP FOR ME ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON AFTER CHURCH...SUCH A HELP!

SO HERE'S CLAIRE'S PJ'S AND BLANKET SO SHE CAN GET ON THE FUN WITH HER BROTHERS...MAILED THEM OFF THIS MORNING TOO.

Then, Melody had decided we needed to bump Claire up to a size 2T, so that meant finding new patterns and getting those together before I could get started on anything else.  I am getting better about putting together PDF patterns, and truthfully I guess I am beginning to prefer them.  I have yet to use a PDF pattern for anything but knit yet though.  The PDF's do seem to have a much wider choice in this area compared to traditional patterns however, so that has helped.  I found the cutest fabric and got enough to make her two complete, yet interchangeable outfits.  Let me show you those...

OK, THIS IS FABRIC FROM A NEW SHOP I FOUND, A NEW PATTERN FROM ANOTHER, AND!!!  I DECIDED TO TRY MY HAND AT MAKING A RUFFLED LETTUCE HEM TO GET THE GIRLY AFFECT THAT I REALLY LIKE.  I WATCHED A FEW TUTORIALS (such a wonderful thing those tutorials!) AND JUST KIND OF DOVE RIGHT IN.  IT CAME OUT PRETTY GOOD, BUT THERE IS A LOT OF ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT, LOL.  I AM THINKING HOPEFULLY I WILL IMPROVE WITH PRACTICE.  I LOVE THIS PATTERN AS IT GIVES YOU MANY DIFFERENT POSSIBILITIES.  SKIRT, OR NO SKIRT, SLEEVES SHORT, 3/4, OR LONG, AND A HOOD OR NO HOOD.  I LET MELODY CHOSE THESE ITEMS, LOL  THEN OF COURSE AFTER YOU CHOSE WHAT YOU WANT, THEN YOU HAVE TO DECIDED WHERE TO USE WHAT FABRIC....TOO MANY CHOICES, LOL

THEN I MADE A PAIR OF LEGGINGS TO GO WITH IT IN A COORDINATING PRINT...SOOO CUTE  I LOVED THIS FABRIC!  AND SOO PERFECT FOR THIS DAIRY GIRL

THIS IS THE SAME PATTERN, MINUS THE SKIRT AND WITH A HOOD.  CHANGED THE FABRIC AROUND A BIT AS WELL

AND ANOTHER PAIR OF COORDINATING LEGGINGS

SO THERE ARE THE TWO INTERCHANGEABLE OUTFITS...SOO FUN.

Then today I decided to try making a swim suit for Claire.  I have always wanted to try making one, so I decided a little one would be best.  Again, a few tutorials on how to put elastic in a swim suit, and I began.  I had gotten some really cute little coordinating fabric panels from my favorite shop, and was really anxious to try it.  Well.........it was A LOT more fiddly then I hoped.  The fabric slip and slided around, and the elastic has to be stretched just so, and the bottom line it is going to take some practice.  But just like the lettuce hem, I really WANT to learn to do new things now and then so I push myself through.  The suit is merely OK, LOL.  And that's because the fabric is soo adorable.  I have two more cut out for tomorrow, so hopefully they will be better.  Let me show you this one...

LIKE I SAID, FABRIC IS ADORABLE...BUT I HAVE A FEW MORE TIPS TO TRY TOMORROW WHICH SHOULD IMPROVE ON THIS A LOT.  MEANWHILE, I HOPE IT AT LEAST FITS HER, LOL

AND THIS IS THE BACK!
So honestly, that's about all I have been up to.  Our week-end was pretty ordinary for us.  Relaxing, a few errands, and more relaxing.  Hope you all had a good week-end.  I did stop and put my dinner in and I am hearing Jeff pull into the driveway so I finished this just in time.  Hope you all have a good week!  Blessings to you all, Debbie

  1. Claire never was the wiser that she had not been included in the last batch of clothing mailed out. She's going to be a happy camper with her new outfits. So will her mom! I still can't get over your making a bathing suit!

  2. Debbie, those little interchangeable outfits for Claire are adorable. And to make swimsuits - how fun and what little girl can ever get enough. Always enjoy seeing your projects.
