THE UNEXPECTED

Yesterday was one of those unexpected days that happen every now and then, that make you grateful that most days just come and go with nothing more than the simple everyday struggles or pleasures they bring.  I had nothing more planned then some laundry and a day in front of my sewing machine.  Instead I spent 9 hours at the hospital with my youngest sister who was facing an unexpected emergency surgery, and some pretty scary possibilities.  I found myself again at a strange hospital seeing and experiencing those all to familiar sights, sounds and even smells, and having it bring back some memories of my mom I'd just as soon not think about anymore.  I was glad though that I was in the position to be there for her, hold her hand while we waited, and to pray with her before she went through those operating doors.  As it turns out, all went well thank God, and she should be just fine soon hopefully.  She does have some yucky recovery time in front of her, but hopefully it won't be too bad.  It just goes to show you that none of us ever know just what might lie ahead, and we need to be ready to face our God whenever that might be.  We need to look for the joy and the blessings in this life and embrace them with enthusiasm when we can.  We need to make our time count and remember just why it is we are here on this earth in the first place.  We need to not stress on what's just not that important (like your quilting Debbie I am telling myself!) and remember what is.  Soo, I will step down off my soap box now, and share a few things that made me smile.  Bet you don't even have to guess if you are familiar at all with me.  Yes....some pics of some of my grandkids.  Praise God for their sweet little faces.  This video I am going to post of Sam is honestly one of the cutest things I have even seen, especially for being under a minute long.  For those of you who might not know, my only daughter lives 1000 miles away from us.  She tries to send me videos of the babies as often as she can so that we can get a good look at what is happening.  I probably get 2 or 3 a week.  Sam is soo funny in it as he is aware now of the camera on and what is happening. Be sure and hit the small little box on the lower right side when it starts and it will go big enough to see.  Simply hit escape to get back out.   Pretty good for not quite two grandma is thinking.

  1. 1. I'm so glad that result wasn't the worst case scenario with your sister and am so sorry that "it" happened at all. I know that you want to heal and not hurt.

    2. You have the cutest grandchildren!!

    3. Do you remember my comment about my old sewing machine? Well, apparently Dellie the laptop tattled to her because yesterday when I pulled her out to sew a simple, straight seam (my pay grade), she wouldn't work right. I made the mistake of pulling on something and ended up with three pieces of her in my hand.

But I'm looking on the bright side like you are... My daughter comes home for a visit tonight.

  2. Hi, Debbie! I thought for sure that I had you on my blog roll, but I didn't, apparently! No wonder I've been missing out on so many of your posts...and you've always been so kind to visit! You're on my blog roll now! You sure have some sweet blessings in your life! Glad to hear that things turned out well for your sister!

  3. Oh that does sound like a challenging day. Very happy to read that things went well and that your sister will be good to go once this recovery is behind her. Poor thing! It must have meant a lot to her that you were able to be there for her. Talk about having to put on your big girl pants. I don't want to be anywhere near a hospital for a good long time.

Also good to know that Cody had a good first day at school. He looked a little concerned. My grands are in school for the first day today. They just got out the end of June. I am less than impressed. Children have so little time in the summer anymore.

Sweet photos of all the grands!
