TUESDAYS TIDBITS

Well I certainly had a wonderful Mother's Day and I hope all you other mama's out there did too.

As we were on our way home from church last Sunday I was chatting with my hubby (lots of time for "chatting" on these drives back and forth) and was wondering aloud how Melody would spend her first Mother's Day.  Living with a Dairy Farmer who works 7 days a week makes it difficult for her to plan a lot.  Sometimes he takes LONG breaks (a few hours) after an early morning work time, and afternoon responsibilities, but it isn't something she can count on.  Sometimes he even skips afternoon work time altogether and she gets a nice long day.  But I was afraid she would spend the day like so many others and was wishing she was close enough to join us all on our plans for dinner.  But as it turned out her hubby only worked from 6 till 9:30 am and took the rest of the day off and drove her into Lubbock for lunch and a day of shopping at the Mall.  This is a real treat for Mel since that is the nearest mall and it is a couple of hours away.   She has learned to do a lot of her shopping on line, but let's face it, not something most 25 year old gals want to do.  Even ones like Mel who has never been a big shopper.  She sure misses it now.  Anyway, I was sooo pleased to hear that her hubby planned such a day for her.  Sam loved being pushed around in the stroller so much at the mall taking in all the sights that she could not get him to lay back and take a little snooze when it was time.  Here is how he fell asleep.  I was glad she had a nice day too.

haha....Poor baby just couldn't make it any longer...

While at our house on Sun. evening, my grand daughter Capri asked me, "Grandma, I want to ask you something."  And of course I said, "You can ask me anything Capri."  And she went on to ask me if I knew what a cloak was...After assuring her that I did she told me she wondered maybe if I could make her one as she would really love to have one to play dress up with.  Soo I am going to go by the fabric store today and see if I can't find a pattern and some fabric to make her up one.  Soo fun.  Hopefully I will remember to take a picture of it if I do.  I have been so bad recently on taking pictures.  I forgot to charge the camera up the one time and now on Sunday I had it all charged and ready and never took a single photo.

My mom had another small seizure last night and it was overwhelming to tell you the truth.  My poor step dad could barely handle it he is so weak, my sister who lives close had already gone to bed and has not been feeling well recently and really needed her sleep (she works a full time job as well) and I am a good 45 minutes away.  But I did manage to walk them through the ordeal on the phone (she had forgotten to take her pills...sigh) and stayed on the line with them until they were both in bed.  These seizures are quite scary for both of them as she just begins talking in complete jibberish.  She KNOWS she is talking jibberish which makes them all the more frightening for her.  They don't last long (maybe 15 min.) but they take their toll on her.  I think my new plan is calling her at 8 am and 8 pm daily and making sure she has taken her meds.  I do have them all set up for her in a daily pill box container, but this is the first time she has forgotten to take them altogether.  She is fighting depression this morning that it happened but I did try to reassure that we ALL forget to take our pills sometimes.  But we will work together to help her so it won't happen again.  Some things will definitely be easier once she is living here.  The Lord lead me to this verses this morning, and I am taking comfort in it..

Isaiah 43:1-3  "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name, you are Mine.  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.  When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.  For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Other than that the only other thing to report is my young 9 year old nephew made all stars!!  YAY!!  Brings back some great memories.  Joe and Melody played all stars a few summers, and it was always so fun.  I am looking forward to going to some of his games.  Oh and I get my stitches out today...so glad that is over with.  Hope you all have a wonderful day!

I was sorry to hear that your Mom had another seizure. These must be so scary. It is a difficult time for them, and I am so sorry about that. We are just beginning to go through it a bit with my Nana. She will be 98 in August and had such good health her whole life. She is getting confused and has some difficulty talking sometimes.
Glad you had a nice day too Debbie!!!

  2. Hi, Love catching up and seeing Sam asleep. Oh Debbie, I know it must be so hard for you with your mom, but you did the right thing staying on the phone etc. I think it is good to call in the am and pm, to make sure she got her meds. Getting older is so hard.
Sending lots of love to you today.

  3. Hi Debbie:

Just catching up here and glad you had a good Mother's Day.

It is so hard when our parents begin to have serious physical problems. It's hard on them for sure, and really hard on us to see it happen. I sure relate to all you are sharing, many of the same things happened with my mom.

Hang in there friend, I know you are such a big help and encouragement to your familiy.

  4. What a precious little picture of Sam asleep in his stroller.

I am so sorry to hear about your mother's seizures. I am sure that is a concern for all of you. It is a difficult time when we start caring for our parents.

Congrats to your little all star team players. What a fun time of grandparenting.

  5. So glad that Melody got to enjoy her Mother's Day ... I'm sure she would have preferred to be with you, but since that wasn't possible, it was good that her hubby was able to make her day a special one.

I can't wait to see the cloak you make for your granddaughter. How sweet!

I'm so sorry to hear that your mom had another seizure. I'm glad that you were able to talk her through it and have a plan to try to avoid this happening again.

And yay! on your stitches out ... so glad that's all over.

  6. Being married to a farmer myself I can relate to those long days, and sometimes nights. And getting a treat like this makes everything even more special ! Sam is precious!!

What a great grandmother you are Debbie, you are so adored by all!

I am sorry to hear this about your mother, I have really had her on my mind this week and have been praying for her and you. I do a lot of praying when I am out in the garden, as it is quiet and the Holy Spirit just places people on my heart.
    I will continue to pray.
    Hugs,
    Sue

  7. So happy your daughter was able to spend Mother's Day with her hubby and shopping! I remember when I was a young mother how much that meant to just get out of the house! Sorry your mom is going through so much! And it's spreading to you of course!!! Beautiful, beautiful verse. How many of us need to cling to that at certain times in our lives? Truly, where would we be without the Lord's saving grace? Hope your Saturday is going well. Can't wait to see the cloak!!! Please take pictures! :)
