A DIFFERENT LAST FEW DAYS!

Well I have had a different last few days, as hubby has been out of town on a business trip....seems like he has been gone forever, not just a few days.  I have had much to keep me busy though as I am STILL trying to wrap up my sewing.  Since my last post I have made 1 blanket sack for Luke, 4 pair of little pants for the babies, and a long sleeved flannel shirt for Sam complete with cuffs!  haha.  I have not made anything with cuffs in years! I used to make them all the time as remember I have 3 sons and I would occasionally make them long sleeved shirts.  And for a few year period ~ back in my thirties, lol ~ hubby and I used to go country/western dancing at least once a week.  How fun that was!  We could two-step, cowboy cha/cha, waltz, and do several line dances.  I honestly can't imagine that now.  It was really quite the little work out, but we both loved it.  Anyway, I made him several country/western shirts, and of course those had cuffs, and different colored yokes etc.  So I never gave it a thought when I decided to make Sam and Luke matching long sleeved flannel shirts.  Well I wasn't very far into it when I just couldn't remember what to do so I actually opened the directions....I NEVER read directions anymore, haha.  Well, I had bought a Burda pattern, since you can get them for 3 or 4 bucks, but I have never actually read a Burda direction before.  OH MY...is all I will say.  Most of my patterns back in the day when I read directions were Simplicity, or McCalls, or Butterick, and they had really good pictured directions that could walk you through almost anything.  These directions were worded weirdly and made little sense....sigh.  Have any of you any experience with Burda?  Anyway, I played around with it and most of it eventually came back to me in spite of the directions, and I managed to get Sam's done.  It is a heavier, super nice flannel, and they could almost use these as a light jacket instead of just a shirt, but guess their mama will have to decide that.  My sister Diane came over to stay with me a couple of the days to keep me company and so that we could do a little more sewing together.  She is making her grandkids matching outfits for Thanksgiving.  She was making the girls little skirts and I suggested that she applique some matching fabric in the shape of a heart on the little shirts she bought to go with them.  She loved the idea and so I quickly whipped those up for her.  I am soo grateful that she shares my love of sewing, and that we could have a little time together.

MY PHONE JUST DOESN'T TAKE CLEAR ENOUGH PICTURES TO SEE DETAILS, BUT YOU GET THE IDEA.  THERE IS A SATIN STITCH AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE HEART.  SHE HAS 3 GRANDKIDS AND THEY EACH GOT A DIFFERENT SNOOPY SCENE IN THEIR HEART...SUCH CUTE FABRIC!

AND THIS ONE IS DOWNRIGHT BLURRY...SIGH.  BUT IT IS SHOWN HERE WITH THE LITTLE MATCHING SKIRT!

KIND OF MADE THIS PATTERN UP SO HOPE IT FITS THEM!  THEY EACH GOT ONE PLAIN PAIR OF BROWN AND A NAVY BLUE.  SHOULD GO WITH ALMOST ALL OF THE ONESIES I MADE THEM!

HERE IS THE SLEEP SACK FOR LUKE OUT OF MELODY'S FAVORITE FOOTBALL TEAM, THE PATRIOTS!

I LOOK AT THIS LITTLE SHIRT FOR SAM AND THINK IT LOOKS SOO EASY, HOWEVER DID IT TAKE ME SOO LONG?  LOL   DID REMEMBER HOW TO MATCH THE PLAIDS IN THE FRONT HOWEVER.  ;  )

A CLOSE UP ON THAT PESKY CUFF!
I have had appointments with doctors that I managed to work into these last few days as well, and tomorrow I will have my hands and feet done so they will be nice for our trip.  I STILL need to make Lukes matching shirt, a no-sew blanket for them to have for fun, and then I can finally do up a few dish towels.  Think I will make it by Sunday when we leave?  I am having my doubts that's for sure. I got the important stuff done though, so anything else I manage is just the frosting on the cake as my mom would say.  Hubby and I did manage to get ALL of our inside Christmas decorations up on Sat. before he left, so that is out of the way as well.  I am actually enjoying them already believe it or not! lol

I am soo ready to have hubby home tomorrow.  After 38 together guess I am kind of use to having him around, lol.  Hope you all are having a GOOD week!  Blessings to you all!

Love, Debbie

  1. You are going like the Energizer Bunny! I'm in total awe. That little flannel shirt for Sam looks like it came from L.L. Bean! Love all these items and I know the children will, too. (Their moms will be so appreciative, too.) Hope that you get to the tea towels. I want to see how a pro does it!

So nice to have your Sis with you while hubbys gone.
You've both done a fab job on your outfits!
I use to sew my husband and sons western shirts too. Like you, it probably wouldn't come easy now.
As fast as you work, I'm betting you'll have everything all sewn up in time!

  7. Dear Debbie, I totally understand what you mean about hubby's being away. I know mine needs his golf trips, but I seriously don't enjoy it when he's gone(unless I'm mad at him). Love all the clothes for the grands you are making.
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with Mel and her family. Drive safe!
    Love, Noreen
