STILL BUSY OVER HERE...

Well it's 2;30 in the afternoon on Monday and it seems like it is closer to 4 what with the time change.  I have SUCH mixed feeling about the time change.  But guess it is the old it is what it is so I might as well move along with it, right?  But I do know come 8 or 8:30 tonight, I am going to be ready for bed, lol

I know I said I was going to just take a break from the sewing machine this week-end, but it didn't happen. After sitting down and counting the actual days I have until we are leaving for New Mexico for Thanksgiving, I realized I just didn't have the time to spare.  Let me tell you my goal.....come on, I know your all dying to hear it....I want to have ALL of my sewing done, and my entire house all decorated for Christmas BEFORE we leave for a week for Thanksgiving at Melody's.  Now my reasons for this are, ALL of my sewing projects are things for each family to use and enjoy DURING the Christmas season, which is pretty much the whole month of December.  What is the point of getting something for Christmas decorating if you don't get it until Christmas day right?  Of course you can save it for the next year, but it's just not the same.  So every year I try to make something for each family to enjoy for the season and give it to them on Thanksgiving.  I start by getting each family a new ornament for their tree which is personalized and dated.  Got that all taken care of, and the ornaments arrived last Friday.  Then this year it is the Christmas runners and the stockings, and then all of the grandkids get a new pair of Christmas PJ'S.  That means I had 4 runners to do ~ making one for me too ~ and 11 pairs of PJ'S!  And 11 stockings!  And I am making Melody's boys little matching shirts to wear, and some embroidered body suits for the babies.  Soo as you can see, it was A LOT of sewing and why I got busy in August.  The runners took me MUCH longer than I had anticipated however, so now I am getting down to the wire.  My runners are almost done ~ only have one to quilt and that can be mine so it is NOT going to be done before we leave ~ and I have now made 3 more pairs of jammies.  Well actually, 2 more pairs of jammies, and one sleep bag for one of the babies.  They are getting exactly the same bag, lol   Works out well for me that I can use the same pattern for several of the grands who are close in age with just an adjustment or two.  But you figure I have two babies only a couple months apart, 2 four year olds, and a 7, 8, and 9 year old who are very similar in size.  I have 3 teen-aged grandchildren who just get the sleep bottoms as they wear theirs with t-shirts or tank tops, so theirs are REALLY quick and easy. Soo now let me show you the latest...

I DECIDED TO SHOW EACH OF THEM WITH A CLOSE UP RIGHT NEXT TO IT.....THESE ARE JEFFIE'S

THIS IS ONE OF THE SLEEP BAGS...THESE ARE SOO NICE FOR BABIES AS THEY ARE MADE OF FLEECE AND ARE VERY COMFY AND WARM .  I MADE SOME FOR MELODY FOR SAM IN THE PAST, AND SHE LOVES THEM!

AND THESE ARE DONATELL'S WHICH IS FUNNY BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE TWO DIFFERENT PAIRS.  BOTH OF THE PHOTOS ARE BAD AS THERE IS ACTUALLY A LITTLE GLITTER LOOK IN THE FABRIC AS WELL WHICH YOU CANNOT EVEN SEE.  THE SECOND PICTURE IS MORE THE COLOR THEY ARE, BUT THE BUTTONS ARE PINK.
Soo, let's see, that leaves me Capri, JD, one of the babies, and then the 3 teen-agers and the 2 little shirts, and the embroidery.  Think I will make it, haha??  I don't have every day either of course as I DO have a few other scheduled things and events.  My husband is busy on his list too.  He got all of the outside lights up and ready to do go with their timers etc this week-end.  Now we won't light a thing up until after Thanksgiving of course, but they are all ready. This week-end and next we will take care of the inside of the house decorations and the following week-end we leave...whew.  The GOAL is to be done, so that when we get back on the first of December, the house will be decorated, the sewing will not only be done but the machine will be stored away in it's cabinet until AFTER New Years, and we will have the ENTIRE month of December to just relax and enjoy times with our family.  I do give one other toy or something to each grandkid, but I have a good start on that so there is really very little left to shop for or wrap.  Hubby and I quit exchanging gifts a couple of years ago, and my kids just get good old cash.  So it is all nice and easy when I am done with this sewing.  All new traditions we began after our kids married and started their own families, and I guess I will continue them for as long as the Lord gives me the strength and ability to do so.

Well, this post took me a little longer than I thought....they usually do.  I want to make the other sleep bag before I begin dinner, so I'd best get busy.  I really enjoy making those little bags for the babies.  They are so quick and easy.

I am still missing my mom so, and thinking a lot about last year and how she broke her neck on Christmas Eve etc., and as much as I miss her, I am so happy for her that she will be celebrating in Heaven this year. For years and years she made Christmas special for all of us, and I will cherish those memories now more than ever.  Hope you are all enjoying your week!  Blessings, Debbie

  1. Sweet, sweet pj's!! Love them all.You are so talented. My mom was like you, she could sew anything. I miss her most at Christmas because, as you said about your mom, she made everything so special for everyone. I'm with you about the time change, regardless, I love to jump into bed around 8:30 or 9:00 to read and be all cozy before time to go to sleep. :o)

  2. I am sure you must miss your mother so much. I clearly remember the first Christmas after my dad went to heaven, and how sad I felt.

As for the gifts you are so beautifully doing, well, I continue to be most impressed with your talent and skills. Keep pressing on:)

  3. You are going to be one busy lady the next couple of weeks! The pajamas are all adorable, really like the bag sleeper. Lets see, is it three weeks? You do make me smile! Not a big fan of the time change, really dislike when it gets dark so early. Keep us updated on your progress.
    Blessings

  7. You do such wonderful work...so like how my home was when I grew up. My mom would sew at night after we went to bed and hide it all in her closet.
Thanks for the email it so encouraged me and gave me some answers that only those who have gone before me can give...the wisdom of experience.
    Thanks!!!!!!!!
