Monday morning again...MID January....time just whips by. Don't know if I have anything of any significance to say this morning, but if you know me at all, you know it rarely stops me, haha.
Our week-end was good. Sat was spent leisurely just enjoying ourselves. It was a good feeling! We hung out in the morning enjoying our coffee and tea and chatting away. Then I did a TINY bit of sewing and hubby did a TINY bit of organizing in our shed, and then we left for lunch. I have soo missed going for sushi, or specifically mainly California rolls since going gluten free it would be hard to describe. Now I knew there was such a thing as gluten free soy sauce, and IF you can find the rolls made with REAL crabmeat instead of imitation, I would be free to do so. But I have never actually bought the sauce, nor found a place that makes them that way. But! on Sat., hubby told me he had inquired when he was at Kabuki the other day for lunch (always looking out for me!) and the gal told him of a roll on their menu that was made with real crab. Soo we went by the store that carries such things, and bought some gluten free soy sauce and with it safely in my purse pulled up to Kabuki. To say I was giddy would be putting it mildly. I quickly figured out that the salad dressing was out as was the miso soup (LOVE that) but there was the king crab roll all mine for the choosing. I sat in eager anticipation. When they brought my plate out I tried not to be disappointed just at the sight of it, but sadly I was. There were only 5 TINY (and I mean TINY!) pieces in this roll and they were wrapped in super thin pieces of cucumber. Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE cucumber. But I was looking more for the traditional look of a California roll with rice on the edge etc. Not to be deterred however, I poured my sauce into my little dish and quickly dipped my bite into it and put it into my mouth. I was overjoyed to realize I hadn't forgotten how to use chopsticks even though it has been soo long since I have. But alas, that it where my joy ended....It was merely OK. Nothing about it tasted like many of the rolls I have enjoyed in the past. The sauce was GOOD, but it didn't taste like soy sauce to me. And within 2 minutes I had eaten the WHOLE thing and the experience was over, lol. And here is the worse part! It cost 11 dollars!! Can ya stand it?? For 3 minutes of mild eating pleasure...sigh. So much for that, don't think I will be doing that again too soon. It left me craving the old rolls even more. After lunch we went to the movies and saw the Book Thief! We BOTH loved it. I have not read the book, though I certainly want to now. If your looking for a good movie, give this one a see.
Sun found us down in San Diego for church. James has started the book of Revelation and it is soo good! I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to going through this book. After church we went to their house to hang out with the grands, have a TASTY lunch (my wonderful dil prepared me a delightful pasta that was gluten free and sooo good), and to watch SADLY, the defeat of our beloved Chargers....sigh. Another season comes to an end. I guess now we begin rooting for the Patriots, which is Melody's team. It is hard as I honestly don't really care (not like the others anyway, lol) but since the family is divided between these two opposing teams, I kind of root for both. But of course when it gets to the end of the season and they are both still in it, it does get kind of hard. But now I guess I can safely say, LETS GO PATRIOTS!
I did get the quilt all finished up and delivered to the quilters, and it is supposed to be done on Wed or Thursday. I am soo excited to see how it comes out. I have the binding all cut, and hopefully it won't take me long to finish it up. Meanwhile, I have cut all the pieces for the rag quilt and have embroidered one of the squares, and so it is all ready to assemble, clip, shake and finish hopefully in these next couple of days. My hope is to have both quilts COMPLETELY done by Friday, and maybe even some of the next things cut out. I will freely admit I DON'T like cutting things out, so I am always glad to get that part done.

LITTLE VINNY IS SOO SWEET AND HAS TOTALLY STOLEN GRANDMA'S HEART! |
I BOUGHT THIS DARLING LITTLE PICTURE AT HOBBY LOBBY FOR LUKES ROOM A FEW MONTHS AGO, AND IT HAS FINALLY FOUND IT'S WAY TO THE WALL IN HIS ROOM...AS CUTE AS I PICTURED IT! |
OK, this is long enough for not having anything to say. Hope you all have busy, productive (why is that soo important to me anymore....I need to find some time to contemplate it) and joyful week! Blessings to you all.
Love, Debbie
Sweetest grandbaby I do believe I've ever seen! The finished quilt is going to be so beautiful! If only I had 1/10 of your creative talent, I'd be one happy camper! Hope you have a terrific day! :))
ReplyDeleteHi my friend, I buy GF soy sauce and marinade from Whole Foods. Of course, now I feel really stupid because the sushi I get at Safeway-I always assumed it was real crabmeat-so guess I've been eating gluten....such a bummer.
ReplyDeleteLove the new quilt-it will be so soft and warm. Sending you lots of love.

What a beautiful grandson! I love the quilt pieces too and the embroidered piece.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the sushi not turning out the way you wanted.
I love sushi but the prices have been keeping me away. I have tried making my own (I can make spicy tuna and tuna rolls) but they are not as good as the ones we get when we go out.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo with the sleeping grand baby, don't you just love it! Hope you have a wonderful day!
Love the potential you have for tucking those special little messages in...so wonderful and impossible to find without customization.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt and square with sweet saying! Those babies are getting big!!!
ReplyDeleteWe LOVED The Book Thief too!!
XO Kris
I love those flannels you're putting together ... adorable! I hate cutting too, which is why I asked for a fabric cutter for Christmas. I know that in my haste to get the job done, I've probably not been as accurate as I could/should be. Hopefully having the cutter will eliminate any errors ... and speed things up a little, too.
ReplyDeleteYour grandbabies are just the sweetest things ... I sure miss those days of babies falling asleep in my arms.
Giggling about the nail comment at the end. You MADE me look! Had you not said that, I would have been far too busy looking at sleeping Vinny.
ReplyDeleteHe is adorable. All of your grandchildren are adorable.
I read the first foodie story with such an empathetic heart. I can't tell you how many times that has happened to me. I get all jazzed about something only to get three minutes of wolfing and a "meh" at the end.
What a nice weekend, and well just not a Sushi fan. The kids will have days where they will make the California rolls. I do love the sticky rice.
ReplyDeleteYour babies are all so cute. I love your quilt too, I hope you have a lovely week.
Your "nothing to says" always make me smile. Actually, I smile the entire way through your posts sometimes because you write that way:) I really like the "Jesus Loves Me" on the small quilt. What more can possibly matter to that little sweetheart, than that Jesus and you love him!
