SATURDAY CATCH UP

Good morning to you all!  Well it's not "usual" for me to post on a Sat. morning I know, but I never did get to it yesterday.  I have had a busy week, though nothing really too out of the ordinary.  Lot's of sewing.  We decided after using the navy fabric we had bought for the binding on the quilt, NOT to use it on the bed skirt.  I guess more accurately, "I" decided, lol.  Truthfully, I have NEVER been in favor of this fabric, but as I have mentioned before it is NOT my nursery, lol   But after working with it I convinced Jessie that it was a LINT nightmare.  Honestly, you wouldn't believe how many times I had to roll that fabric with a lint brush. And that was just a little piece around the edge of the quilt.  Can you imagine it on something as big as a bed skirt and hanging near the floor to boot? I was having dreams about it, lol  But then "lint" is something I never could abide, but that's another story.  Anyway, she decided to go with a plain grey with a white stripe at the bottom, and trusted me to go ahead and pick it out.  Since I had been out near the coast getting my hair done, and was convinced I wanted a REALLY nice piece of cotton (I am getting spoiled!) I talked my sister (Jessie's mother) into meeting me at Piece Makers which is a WONDERFUL quilt and fabric and doo dad shop in Huntington Beach.  What a treasure chest of goodies for those who sew and quilt this store really is!  I LOVE it!  Now there is a little more to this store which you need to know.  This was one of my mom's favorite spots.  It was pretty near to her when she lived in Huntington Beach and she took quilting classes and lessons there for years. They also have a little restaurant attached to it and she convinced me (easily) to lunch and shop there with her MANY times.  It even has a spot in the store where you can buy candy, fudge, and have a piece of pie and a cup of coffee or tea.  Mom always got a little bag of their jelly bellies when we went.  But I haven't ever been there without her, and honestly I didn't know how it might be.  But it was as WONDERFUL as ever.  Yes, mom wasn't there with us physically, but she definitely was in spirit.  I kind of felt like I had spent a little time with her....weird, I know. But we found a beautiful piece of fabric, just the right shade of grey, and a nice large grey and white chevron piece for a sheet, and a some grey in the pattern of giraffe print to make a stuffed giraffe with, so we did really well.  We browsed around a bit, chatted with some wonderful women, snacked on a tiny piece of candy, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

I also had another lunch date with my girl friend this week, but we added an afternoon movie to our activities this time.  She had been wanting to see Meryl Streep's new movie Osage County and her hubby didn't, so I told her I'd go with her since I've been wanting to see it too.  It was a GOOD movie, and Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts were both just excellent in it, but goodness it is a depressing and somewhat dark movie.  We truly enjoyed ourselves in spite of this, lol

And then yesterday I headed out to address my nails which I have sadly neglected since before Christmas. There is just soo much maintenance required to remain even half way presentable, but again, that's another post.  After I finished there I went to Joanne's as I needed a few things for my sewing projects and to pick put some fabric to make my grandson Cody some new jammies and a tee shirt to embroidery for his upcoming birthday.  So as I go back over what I did this week in my head, guess maybe I spent more time out flitting around then I did at home, haha.  But I did get the quilt finished up and 4 more blankets made. Today hubby is going to go over and help Jessie's husband hang some wall paper in the new nursery ~ my hubby is a pro at this! ~ and I am going to stay here and sew.  Maybe we will do something fun later.  Hope you all have a wonderful week-end.

Blessings to you all, Debbie

  5. I have only been to Piece Makers once, and I was awestruck! I was new to quilting at the time, so it was very overwhelming for me.
Those blankets are just adorable! I would love to make some. I appreciate your giving me the info on them too. And I would still love to do a sew day. But if I should try the blanket beforehand, is there a pattern for it? Is there any any quilting done on the body of the blanket? Is there any batting in it? Or just two layers of flannel?
    Fun, fun, fun!

  7. Without even seeing it, I know that would be a good call on the bed skirt. I could not agree more about not wanting to deal with constant lint.

I loved that daisy chain stitch you did. It's all in the details!

(And Cody is adorable to me. I can't tell you how many times I have retold the story of the little prayer he lead at your house some time back. That was a true warm-my-heart story.)

  9. Hi there, Sounds like a good weekend; I always love seeing your projects. Enjoy your nice weather; I'm wishing it was sunny here. I'll be thankful when we move and have less to shovel-shorter driveway, no yard to shovel and less sidewalk.
    Hugs, Noreen
