HANGING UP MY PERFECTIONIST SHOES!

Well it's late Thursday afternoon and I have had a relaxing, yet productive week.  The birthday lunch with my sisters was very nice, and she was VERY pleased with her pillow.  I am hoping to see a picture of it in it's place soon.  After lunch Diane and I stopped at Ikea on our way home and spent a good hour and a half going through the store looking for cabinets, tables etc., as I have decided I HAVE to make some changes in the my sewing "area".  I'd like to say, "sewing room", but it is definitely just an area....But more about that later.

The rest of the week I have been working S L O W L Y on my HST quilt, trying to take my time and NOT rush, and do it carefully, as personally, so far, I find HST's a real pain.  They are sooo picky.  Every little thing must be soo carefully done, and if something is off by even an 1/8 of inch or so, it just doesn't look right.  Some of them (even most of them) are perfect, but every once in a while one of them is off and I need to either throw it out and make another one, or somehow get it in there so it looks "close enough" to perfect. Is there such a thing?  lol  I am beginning to doubt it. I did get a ruler to square up a half square triangle, and it helped quite a bit.  I have made 144 of them and decided to start putting together the quilt to see how it was going to look.  My triangle squares were perfect...or at least I thought they were, lol.  Now that I have started putting the quilt together I realize "some" of them must be a little off as they are NOT perfect, but I have decided they are close enough.  Hopefully nobody but me will ever know, and I have noticed that after something is quilted most imperfections seem to disappear anyway.  Soo this "perfectionist" is officially hanging up her shoes and going with "its's good enough!" lol  Let me show you what I have got so far.

HERE IS WHAT ONE OF THE BLOCKS LOOKS LIKE.  THERE ARE 16 HALF SQUARE TRIANGLES IN THIS BLOCK ARRANGED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THEY MAKE THIS PATTERN.  I DO LOVE THE FABRIC.  I USED A CHARM PACK AND HAD 21 DIFFERENT COORDINATING COLORS, AND ALSO THEN A WHITE I CUT INTO FIVE INCH SQUARES.  PUTTING THE BLOCKS TOGETHER AND SQUARING THEM UP WENT PRETTY FAST, BUT THE TROUBLE BEGAN WHEN I BEGAN CONNECTING THE BLOCKS....SIGH

HERE IT IS...NOT A GOOD PIC...I WILL PULL OUT THE GOOD CAMERA WHEN IT IS DONE.  IT ALSO ISN'T TOTALLY SMOOTHED DOWN THOUGH IT DOES LAY VERY FLAT.  I LOVE THE DESIGN.  I ONLY HAVE ONE MORE ROW.  I CAN'T DECIDED IF IT SHOULD HAVE ANOTHER ROW DOWN MAKING IT 12 BLOCKS, OR EVEN ONE MORE ACROSS IN ADDITION TO ONE MORE DOWN MAKING IT 16 BLOCKS, OR MAYBE BORDERS PUT ON IT (WHICH MIGHT TAKE FROM THE DESIGN) OR JUST LEAVE IT AT 9 BLOCKS.  ANY OPINIONS?

Guess that's it for now.  I am hopefully going to work on the rest of it tomorrow, and continue mulling over ideas on what to do with my area.  I am NOT using all of my space efficiently, and I need to get things more organized.  So maybe someday soon I will have settled on a plan and can begin to bring it about.  Hope all of you are having a good week.  OH! I officially won ANOTHER give away!  I was soo excited.  A 50 dollar gift certificate to a quilting store called Bear Creek Quilting from Melissa at Happy Quilting.  I am on a roll, lol.  Thank you so much Melissa!  I thoroughly enjoy her blog.  Blessings to you all!  Debbie

  1. It looks fabulous to me! I have been told that quilts that have a few errors are more valuable and more interesting. Yours looks flawless to me and, no, I am not describing it as dull. It is a great pattern. Oh goody! A new sewing area for you. This should be great fun! I love to see the places where gals create.

  4. Since we know where the flaws are, our eyes are drawn to them, so we often see mistakes that others don't. I don't quilt, but I grew up with quilters all around me. Yours looks like it is off to a great start!

  5. Congratulations on your win!

Good for you, giving up perfectionism...although your quilts look pretty perfect from my perspective!

    Happy sewing...and happy weekend!!

  6. I don't see any flaws! And no doubt no one else will either, unless they actually inspect the quilt ... you have my permission to thump their head if they do! ha! I can so relate to all you said ... as you know, my chevron quilt is all HSTs (except for the border), and there are way more blocks than I remembered that didn't turn out as well as I would have liked. :-( I know that my daughter won't see them and will love the finished quilt, so I just press on with it. But like you, I doubt I'll ever make another quilt with so many HSTs!!
