LOVING THE NEW CHAIR..AND A CHICKEN STORY!

I can't begin to tell you how WONDERFUL it was to use my new chair yesterday!  I just LOVE it, and I am soo grateful that it worked into our budget this month.  With the age hubby and I are getting to be (I am on the countdown...60 in September!) we do our best to save every penny we can for retirement.  What I wouldn't have thought twice about in the past now has become a much more thought about decision..."Do I REALLY need this?"  And the answer to the chair was a definite, YES, lol.  Anyway, I had not only a cushy seat for this rear end of mine, I also had REALLY good lower back support, AND! I LOVED not having to get up and down to do the various things you have to do to sew. I simply spin around between table and machine and wheel where I need to be...perfect with these hobble knees of mine.  But new sewing chair aside, I started the day yesterday with quite a bit of frustration over my new quilt that I am putting together for myself out of the civil war fabrics.  I ran short of what I needed to finish the other quilt so I have ordered that, and while I am waiting I decided I would get started on that.  What a nightmare is all I can say.  I ruined 3 blocks before I decided this is going to be WAY too stressful for me to make and it is not the point of my sewing. Soo back to the computer I went to find another pattern that I could do that would work for those fabrics, not be too difficult, and yet was something I was really going to like.  Believe it or not I found one pretty quickly, and have already made several blocks.  It is a SUPER easy block (a double hour glass) so I have dismissed it in the past as too easy, as I want to challenge myself and do something more difficult, but I am just not in the mood right now for challenging, lol.  I want something mindless, easy, and yet looks good. I have found it.  I don't really have a pattern per say that I am following, but I think I know what I am going to do with the blocks.  The other things I have decided is I am definitely going to change the bookcase with the glass doors and the rolling drawers.  Hubby has agreed to moving things for me again, so hopefully I will get that all changed up soon and take a quick pic when I do.  I will show you the new blocks when I get a few more together.

Other then that I wanted to show you some pictures of Melody's new chicken adventure.  It's all working out really well for her so far and I am so happy for her.  I guess Sam is beside himself he is soo excited about it all.  A born farmer boy is all I can say.  He collects the eggs sooo carefully for her and brings them water and scatters food for them as well. They are really pretty tame and eat right out of his hand too.  They have friends out their who raise chickens and she gave Melody a couple of her best hens.  Said they were the best kind for kids being involved.  They are already getting 4 or 5 eggs every couple of days! Sam sits by their coop watching and talking to them.  He has named them Daisy and Minnie and is just as cute as he can be on the whole thing.  Luke is only mildly interested, but he is still pretty young, lol.  Considering Sam is only 2 (though 3 next month too!) he is really doing well with the whole thing.

CHECKING OUT THE NEW COOP

SAM RIDES HIS JOHN DEERE TRIKE OVER TO THE COOP, PARKS AND GETS OUT TO CHECK ON THEM...

AND PULLS UP HIS LAWN MOWER ON A BREAK TO CHECK THEM AGAIN, LOL

MEL SAYS HE SITS THERE FOR A QUITE A WHILE TALKING TO THEM AND WATCHING THEM

PRETENDING TO BE A CHICKEN OF COURSE!

HE IS JUST SOO CUTE IN THIS PIC!  GRANDMA MISSES HIM!

AND SWEET LUKEY TOO!

SAM'S TELLING LUKEY ALL ABOUT DADDY'S NEW 930, LOL

LUKE IS HELPING OUT.  STARTING TO PLAY TOGETHER REALLY WELL...I LOVE IT!
Kind of a lot of pictures I know, but I couldn't leave out any of these for my books, lol.  Summer is whipping by and I honestly can't believe it.  Still have a few more grandma/grandpa sleep overs to get before the time is gone.  Hope you are all having a good week.  Blessings to you all!  Debbie

  1. I loved each and every picture. They are both so adorable! I was unable to choose a favorite picture, but I do have a tie. I love the one where he has driven his J.D. tricycle to check the chickens and the one where they are watching Daddy's new equipment the best of all. (I'm smiling right now at the sight of Sam's pants hanging low. Are you sure he isn't also "Plumber Boy?"

    I heart your family photos...

  2. Those boys ... they're just so adorable!

I'm curious ... what pattern did you start with for your civil war fabrics? I can't wait to see some of your double hour glass blocks ... I don't know that I've ever seen double hour glass blocks before.

So glad that your chair is working out so well for you!

  3. Yup. You gotta know when to hold'em and know when to fold'em. If I would learn that one little point, I could make life a little easier. Those grands are adorable and I'm glad that they have some sweet chickens to give them such good fresh eggs!

  5. Glad you found a new design for your quilt. Sewing and creating are no fun if the frustration level is too high!

Darling pictures of the little farmer grandboys! Fun to see Sam so excited over his chickens!

  6. I love that chicken coop and those lovely hens. I am sure the boys really like having them to talk to and to gather eggs.
I am glad you finally found a quilt to go ahead on, reading about your quilting reminds me of the one I was going to work on this year. So hard that I just put it away. The guilt of it sitting there is driving me crazy.
I am so glad your new chair is working out. It really looks like a very nice chair.
I hope you have a lovely day.

  8. What a great chicken coop that is! And I can see how intrigued the little ones are by those chickens - and even the coop. I would be too. :-)

  9. Now that is a coop any chicken would be proud to live in. The boys are so cute checking out the coop, and even standing in it.
