OUR TRIP AND SAM'S THIRD BIRTHDAY

Well that had to be the fastest, most activity packed four days in history! (MY recent history anyway!).  lol  Goodness I don't recommend driving 1034 miles in one day unless you are like we are,..,anxious to get someplace, and not a lot of time once you do.  We got out of here just like we wanted to... REALLY early (3:00 am) Thursday morning, and we were not pulling onto the dairy until 9:00 pm that night.  We stopped for breakfast for about 40 minutes and other then that it was gas and bathroom breaks only, lol.  Well, actually we drove through a drive through after we got gas once too.  It is such a familiar drive anymore that we can mark our time really well.  Once we get what we consider "near" (still about 3 hours to go!) it is starting to get dark (we do lose an hour once we get into New Mexico) and we are both about done, but we press on knowing the end is near.  And as we get REALLY near it takes both of our set of eyes looking for landmarks in the PITCH black to turn onto their country roads!  Mercy is it DARK!  Poor Sam knew we were on the way, and was trying to stay awake till our arrival but didn't quite make.  Little Lukey was long since in bed.  But we made it and talked for a while with Mike and Melody and tumbled into bed soooo glad to finally be there. The next couple of days were FULL of conversations, playing with those babies, loving on those babies, dinners in and out, Sam's birthday party, and the meeting of some their new friends, and visits with others we have gotten to know over the last six years.  It rained A LOT!  We were kind of afraid it might put a strain on the backyard "tractor" party they had planned for Sam but the weather cooperated and it was beautiful for the event.  Poor Mike had his hands SOOO full with all the rain and the extra care that requires for the cows, that he was occupied with working a lot of the time, but popped in when he could.  I couldn't begin to count up the cute things the boys said and did, or the precious moments we had with them both, but let me just say I treasured them all,  It is soo hard not living close enough to these two little sweeties to get WAY more of these moments then we do, but I am grateful for the comfortable country life they are living, and the parents that God has blessed them with.  They are happy, well cared for and loved, and it shows.  Let me show you my pictures, though I will warn you in advance I never did take out my good camera even though I had it along, as there was just never a moment.

SAM'S NEW JAMMIES...A LITTLE BIG WHICH IS PERFECT AS THEY WILL DEFINITELY SHRINK  HE LOVED THEM!

SEE THE EGG IN HIS HAND?  HE WAS ADORABLE ON SHOWING US HOW HE FEEDS HIS CHICKENS AND GATHERS THE EGGS AND PUTS THEM IN A SPECIAL BOWL ON THE COUNTER.  ( mom washes them later and outs them in the fridge) I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW HE DID THIS ALL ON HIS OWN!  TO INCLUDE CARRYING "EGGS" INTO THE HOUSE AND PUTTING THEM AWAY.  EGGS!!  HE WAS SOO CAREFUL AND SOO PLEASED WITH HIS LITTLE RESPONSIBILITY.  MELODY SAID HE HAS NOT DROPPED A SINGLE ONE YET!  HE CAREFULLY PUT THE LID BACK ON THE FEED AND SPREAD IT AROUND EVENLY FOR THE CHICKENS  SUCH A BIG BOY!  HIS LITTLE FACE HERE SAYS IT ALL!

We left the dairy at 4 am with everyone still asleep.  The drive home always goes quicker for some reason.  I did doze off once or twice, but never stay that way long.  For some reason I do not sleep well in the car.  But here we are.  Safe and sound and another pack of memories tucked away in our hearts.  They will all be out here in a month for Mike's sisters wedding.  Mike, Melody and little Sam as the ring bearer will all be in the wedding, and I am looking forward to it all.  Today (hubby took it off thank goodness!) we will RELAX, do up the laundry, and grocery shop.  Soo much to be grateful for.  I never got a chance to visit at all (whatever was I thinking that I might, lol!) so I will be around today.  Hope you all have been blessed with simple pleasures and joys.  Blessings to you all!  Debbie

  1. Did I do the math right, was that eighteen hours on the road?? Wow!! I know it was totally worth it to be able to be there for Sam's birthday. He is getting to be such a big boy. I glad ya'll had such a nice visit and that you are back home safe and sound...time to rest up a bit I'd say.

  2. Hi there, So glad you got to rest up from that long road trip. Wow is all I can say-that is one long trip; I understand why you drive straight through but my it is long.
Sam is such a cutie. It is hard to believe he is 3 already. You are impacting the boys lives in such a way that will be with them always.

  4. Oh, I don't think Hubby and I could drive 18 straight hours. Hats off to you! About 8 hours a day is a big plenty for us and certainly no more than 10. Glad you all had a good time and will be seeing them again soon. Happy week!

  6. Hi Debbie. I love that you are making sure that those little grandbabies will know you both so well, even though you are many miles apart. I am sure it tears at your heart, but luckily, you have been able to see them quite regularly. They are both adorable. Loved the photos! Rest up!

  7. Whoa! That's a lot of time in the road, all at one time! But worth it, I'm sure. It certainly looks like you all had a wonderful time and packed in as much fun and loving as you could. I know you're already looking forward to seeing them again for Mike's sister's wedding.

  9. That was a very fast trip!!! I need to start planning our trip that way though we won't be driving as far as you did. I love the pictures and it looked like a very nice birthday party. All of Sam's clothes turned out so nice and cute.
So glad you are back at home now.

  10. If I rode that many miles in one day not only would I be a nut job, so would all of my fellow-travelers. I can be whiny like that. :( But my dad would be right there with you every mile of the way. That man loves to ride.

Can't believe Sam is three already. My, my ... the time has flown. He's so adorable.

  11. You and your hubby are professional travelers, I am sure!! I cannot imagine driving for 18 hours straight. I am a terrible traveler. But I know you were happy that you did it...you were rewarded with more time with the grandbabies and their parents!

Happy birthday to Sam!! He is darling! All of your happy photos put a smile on my face! :)

  12. I am so glad that I'm finally getting a chance to sit for a spell and get caught up because I would have hated to miss this post. Sam is just flat out adorable to me. I loved every picture of both of the boys, but my favorite picture of all is the one where Sam is showing the little girls the chicken coop. The face he is making is priceless.

I love that your little Farmer Boy brings in the eggs. That was my favorite part of the story telling.

  13. What a wonderful birthday. I love it when parents start teaching responsibility at a very young age. Good for them. Too bad they live so far from you. I know what that's like. Not easy.

  14. I am convinced that creativity runs in your family! That John Deere cake is adorable! The napkins and plates would all make a perfect farm party for my two little farmers too. I really enjoy seeing how your family celebrates and am reminded often, of how talented you as their grandma, is! I liked the shirt with the tractor too!
