HODGEPODGE WEDNESDAY

It's Wednesday and time for the Hodgepodge.  Be sure and join the others if you can.  I know you will enjoy it if you do.

1.  In like a lion, out like a lamb...does the first part of this saying describing March weather ring true where you live?  Nope, not too much here in So. California, unless our latest rain storm counts...  March is generally a mild and beautiful month from beginning to end.

GRANDSON SAM WHO WAS EXCITED FOR THE SPRINKLES WHERE HE LIVES SO HE COULD USE HIS NEW UMBRELLA.  LOL

2.  March 4th is National Grammar Day.  What common grammatical error bothers you the most?Well I will confess that I started this question by looking up the 10 most common grammatical errors. After reading these I have to admit I struggle with a couple of them myself, and honestly I don't have one that "bothers" me.  I don't really notice much other people's grammar.  I can tell you the one that is hardest for me is that 'irregardless' is apparently NOT a word, lol.  Just 'regardless' is fine to say.  I have a vague memory of my middle son telling me this once or maybe even twice, lol, but it just seems like it should be a word to me.

3.  William Arthur Ward says -" The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; and the realist adjust the sails."  Which one are you?  Oh the realist for sure.  I'd like to say I am a realist with optimistic hopes.  It definitely bothers me when people are ALWAYS expecting the worst, but it bothers me just as much when someone's head is ALWAYS in the clouds expecting everything to be fine no matter what.  "Fix it!"  is my motto, or better yet "figure it out"...no, I guess the best words are "adjust as you go!" lol.

4.  What's something you need to "march forth and conquer" this month?  Well it is nothing really very big thank goodness, but I am procrastinating on making a rag doll for my coming grand daughter for some reason.  I think I am just not very confident I will do it well.  Guess maybe I should follow my own advice from number 3 and just "figure it out" lol.

5.  An ongoing debate around here...do you dust first, then vacuum or vacuum first, then dust?  Of the two routine household chores, which do you dislike the least?  How's that for wording?  Well I am pretty firm on you dust first.  I guess that's the way my mother taught me and some things just stick.  But it does make sense.  Sometimes dust (and stuff) gets brushed to the floor and needs to then be vacuumed up later.  Also I have always been a little weird about fresh carpet marks left by a vacuum.  And if you walk around on the carpet while dusting, then the vacuum marks are not fresh.  See?  I told you I was a little weird on this.  However, it doesn't bother me the way it use to.  At our old house (that we lived in for 25 years) our carpeting was a fairly thick plush and footstep marks on it drove me wild, lol.  We don't have that here so it is NOT the same issue for me.  I definitely prefer to dust.  In fact, I kind of enjoy it. Vacuuming is hard on my knees and hubby does it for us.  I used to vacuum nearly every day when all my kids lived at home.  Must of enjoyed it in those days as I don't remember ever really complaining about it.  I just did it.  Actually if I am being honest what I did was run our little electric broom all over the whole downstairs everyday.  Not the full blown vacuum.  Does that count?

6. According to the thrillist.com, the ten most photographed sites in the USA are - Cinderella's Castle in Orlando, Southernmost House in Key West Florida, The Space Needle in Seattle, The Site of the Boston Massacre in Washington DC, Coit Tower in San Francisco, The Art Institute of Chicago, Niagara Falls, and snagging the number one spot - The Guggenheim Museum in New York City.  How many on this list have you photographed?  Which on the list would you most like to visit and photograph?  I always feel like these kind of questions expose me for not having really been anywhere at all.  I have taken pictures of NONE of these.  If I could I would like to see and photograph Niagara Falls or the Space Needle, or maybe even Cinderella's Castle in Orlando.

7.  Fifty years ago on Monday (March 2, 1965) The Sound of Music premiered at the Rivoli Theater in NYC.  Have you seen the film? Do you own a copy?  On a scale of 1 - 10 how much do you love it (or not)?  Ten = best movie ever.  If you're a fan, what's your favorite scene or song from the movie? Yes I have seen the film absolutely countless times and yes we own a copy.  I guess I would rate it an 8.5.  It is not one of my all time favorite movies, but it's up there.  I do love it. All of the music is soo good, but my favorite is probably, My Favorite Things.  Or maybe it's Climb Every Mountain.  But who doesn't love Do-Re-Mi?  I really like Maria too though.  Just soo many good ones.

LOVE THIS SCENE WHERE THEY ARE ALL WEARING THE CLOTHES SHE MADE THEM

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  My thoughts today are all about the quilt that is ready to be picked up from the quilter.  I am so anxious to see it done.  I've got the binding all cut and put together and ready to whip on so it shouldn't take me long.

Hope you all are having a good week.  Many blessings to you all!  Debbie

  1. I can't wait to see your quilt! And since you enjoy dusting, you can come here and dust for me. I definitely am not a fan of dusting as it seems like by the time I finish the job, the first pieces of furniture that I dusted are ready to be dusted again. :-(

  2. Love your Irish blessing in the header : ) I relate to your 'fresh tracks' comment. We have hardwood floors downstairs so not an issue, but I do enjoy backing out of the bedroom with the vacuum so there are no footprints. That umbrella and picture are adorable! And as far as travel...well that's one of the great things about the Hodgepodge. There are travelers and there are quilters. I've never quilted and admire your sewing and needlework skill. I love the hodgepodginess of the Hodgepodge. Is hodgepodginess a word? It should be! Enjoy your day!

  3. I love what Joyce said about there being travelers and there being quilters. I so admire all the projects you have taken on for your grandchildren. What a joy for you and for them. Whether you ever leave the state of California, Debbie, you are still one of the sweetest people and one of my favorite bloggers. You have such a heart for God and for your family. I love that about you. Yes, I think our Hubbys can draw strength and encouragement from knowing there are other men all over the country doing the same household chore. Have a great day!

  4. I'm anxious to see the quilt, too. Lucky bugger, you get to see it first! =D

Oh, this was an interesting week fro the Hodge Podge. I agree with the dusting first and the adjusting of sails and the rating of The Sound of Music. My nieces loved it so well as children that they watched it every single day!

  5. I counted the rain as a lion! I'm with you on dusting first and carpet marks. I remember my sister's x-son in law who embarrassed her once by saying "can we now walk on the carpet?" when we were visiting. I'm sure we learned that from our mother's.......

  6. We travel a bit, but I have not been good about taking pictures since the children have grown. I rely on others taking the pictures, even of my grand sons.
