WEEK-END WRAP UP....

Well it's late Monday afternoon and I thought I would go ahead and get a post up even though I really don't have much to report.  Our week-end was slow and wonderful and I enjoyed the rest and the company of my hubby.  I long for the days when he retires and ALL of our days can be like the week-ends, though I always feel kind of guilty when I say that.  HE is the one who has to get up and go to work and face the stress and pressures of business every day.  He fights the traffic, hassles what must be done, and does his best to keep on top of those he must manage as well.  Exhausting I have no doubt.  I putter here around the house and sew, read, visit and lunch with friends, and even nap if I am so inclined.  Now I do keep the house up, do the laundry and cook, but honestly with just the two of us it is just not that much anymore.  I do remember those days though when my days were SOO full and busy with 4 kids I couldn't even imagine what these of days would be like, let alone how it would be should they ever actually arrive.  Hubby used to laugh and say after he'd be home a day or two for one reason or another, that his days were a lot less busy then mine. Anyway, not sure how I got off on that tangent.  I guess because I just sit down here to journal and let myself go, and I am surprised at what I write sometimes.  Back to our week-end.  Sat. we had a few errands to run in the morning and then we had lunch out and had some wonderful sushi.  After that we went to the movies and saw Little Boy.  It was really very good.  The little boy in it is a little doll and really a very good actor for as young as he is.  I think most of you would enjoy it if your looking for an enjoyable movie.  After that we went by my son's studio so he and hubby could talk, and Cody was there with his daddy so he and grandma spent some time together.  I continue to be amazed at the wonderful progress he has made in the last year.  He is just doing SOO well.  How I love that little guy.  After that we did our grocery shopping and headed home.  Hubby barbequed some yummy fish and we spent the rest of the evening planted in our spots watching Netflix. Don't know if all of you use Netflix but for us it has really been a wonder.  What a great invention!  lol.   Sunday we went to church and I was SOO blessed by the message I wish I could share more of what it was about, but I don't ever do a very good job of that.  Let me just say it really spoke to my heart.  After church we went to my sons house for lunch and the afternoon. Enjoyed every minute of that too, and then we headed home in time for dinner and more relaxing. And here I am...lol. This morning I stripped the beds and started the laundry, and then after I tidied up the house I sat down at the sewing machine to work on the rag quilt for my daughter's friend.  I think I might have told you already that I am doing this one a little differently then ones I have made in the past as I am making the squares much larger (10 and half by 10 and half) and am doing the whole thing in cottons except for the backing which is satin.  I was concerned about quilting on the satin but honestly I LOVE the way the blocks are coming out.  Today I completed 3 of the 5 embroidered blocks the quilt will have.  I am going to call this my "personalized scripture rag quilt".  lol.  I am considering offering these for sale.  But I am still praying and dwelling on that.  Again, they are kind of a lot of work and not exactly inexpensive to make so I would have to charge more then most might be willing to pay, but we will see.  Let me show you some of the pictures I have taken of it so far, though truthfully as I looked at the pics as usual they really don't do the blocks justice.  I really should learn to work my good camera so my pictures would be more worthwhile.  But here they are...

HERE'S THE QUILT LAYED OUT...IT SHOULD FINISH AT AROUND 42 BY 52.  AS YOU CAN SEE I STILL NEED TO MAKE TWO MORE DESIGNS TO BE WHERE THE PLAIN GREY BLOCKS ARE.  I DID QUILT THE BACK TO THE MIDDLE FLANNEL PIECE SO THAT THE BACK WILL ALL LOOK THE SAME WHEN I AM FINISHED, PLUS IT KEEPS THE FLANNEL FROM MOVING AROUND.  AND I DECIDED I HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT MY SISTER DIANE HAS TO HELP ME FIGURE OUT WHERE TO PUT WHAT SQUARES SO THAT MY FABRIC SQUARES COME OUT EVENLY USING 3 CHOICES AND HAVING 20 SQUARES.  I HAVE A REAL BLOCK WHEN IT COMES TO THINGS LIKE THAT FOR SOME REASON, BUT IT'S PRETTY EASY FOR HER!
I USED A LITTLE BIT LIGHTER GREY THREAD AND A DECORATIVE STITCH TO QUILT THE BLOCK SQUARES TOGETHER.  I REALLY LIKE THE WAY IT TURNED OUT AND WHEN YOU SEE HOW THE BACK WILL LOOK WHEN THEY ARE ALL SEWN TOGETHER, YOU WILL SEE MORE OF WHAT I MEAN

YOU CAN SEE THE DECORATIVE STITCH HERE A LITTLE BETTER ON ONE OF THE POLKA DOT SQUARES

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE DARLING PRINT

FIRST EMBROIDERED SCRIPTURE DESIGN.  I USED THE GREEN, BLACK AND WHITE THREADS TO BRING OUT THE COLORS IN THE REST OF THE FABRICS.

THIS LOOKS LIKE A SIMPLE ENOUGH DESIGN OF COURSE, BUT "FOR ME" IT WAS A BIT OF A BIG DEAL, LOL.  I FINALLY FIGURED OUT HOW TO NOT ONLY ADD A SEPARATE DESIGN TO THE LETTERING (IN THE HEARTS) BUT ALSO HOW TO REVERSE THE DESIGN SO THAT THE HEARTS BOTH POINT INWARDS,  I AM SOO EXCITED THAT I'VE LEARNED THIS, AS I HAVE WANTED TO DO IT MANY TIMES IN THE PAST AND JUST COULDN'T GET IT TO WORK.  IT WAS SOO EASY TOO THAT NOW I AM WONDERING HOW I COULD HAVE HAD IT SUCH A PUZZLE, LOL.  BUT ANYWAY, LOVE THIS DESIGN I MADE, AND OF COURSE IN THE FUTURE I COULD EASILY JUST CHANGE THE NAME ACCORDINGLY.

LOVED THIS DESIGN TOO!

AND I AM NOT TO THE POINT OF NOT POSTING NEW PICS OF SWEET LITTLE CLAIRE!  SHE IS DOING SOOO WELL AND MAKING THINGS SO EASY FOR MAMA.  SHE ACTUALLY SLEPT 6 AND HALF HOURS STRAIGHT THE LAST TWO NIGHTS,  MIGHT NOT LAST OF COURSE, BUT FOR NOW MELODY IS IN HEAVEN!  LOL

SHE IS JUST A FULL CLONE OF HER MAMA IN THIS PIC.  HONESTLY, I WOULD SWEAR IT WAS HER, LOL

I HONESTLY CAN'T BELIEVE THAT MELODY MANAGED TO CAPTURE THIS LITTLE GRIN ON HER FACE.  NOW OBVIOUSLY AT TWO WEEKS THIS IS JUST GAS, LOL, BUT GAVE ME A GLIMPSE OF WHAT WILL BE COMING SOON!

Today is the last day of my meds and I am still wondering if they did any good at all.  I have had LOTS of tingling in my shoulder today, though NO pain and I feel pretty good.  We will see.  Hope you all have a good week, and are being blessed with some beautiful spring like weather.  We have cooled way down to the low 70's and I am dancing a jig over here.  It's gorgeous over here...now if we could just get some rain!  Blessings to you all!  Debbie

I love your latest quilt, Debbie. Does your machine use more than one thread colour at once
or do you have to change threads?

    1. No, I have to change threads Kim! I can move it around and do what I want and I usually do (I am defiant that way, lol). For instance the design of I know the plans I have for you...called for 6 color changes. I only used 3 etc. Or I could have done it in all the same thread. Commercial machines have a few needles going at a time. Quite fun to watch.
