WEEK-END WRAP UP

This post this morning really is going to be quick as I don't really have much to share anyway, lol.  So let's see.....last Friday found me at the sewing machine [soo different for me I know!  lol].  I put together another little romper and the fabric she found for this one was positively darling.  Then....I decided to try my hand again at sun hats.  This time with one for Claire.  Now the hats I made for Capri and Donatella were from a PDF pattern that I found online.  I can tell you most of the PDF patterns I have found so far are not exactly what I would call "good" in that they are most of the time pretty difficult to get together in terms of fitting right etc. if you know what I mean.  Maybe because computers, printers, and etc. vary so.  But anyway, this pattern is part of the Simplicity vintage pattern I use for this particular romper, [btw, I'd have called these sun suits back in the day, lol] and it is sooo easy I was hoping the hat would follow suit.....A yeah, not so much....sigh.  I decided to use left over fabric from the little white/lavender eyelet fabric and see what happened.  The problem btw of buying many fabrics online is that you HAVE to buy a full yard.  I only need 1/2 yard to make these rompers etc., so that leaves A LOT of fabric left over.  Which can easily go into my stash even after getting enough off of them to make hair tie bows. But back to the hat.....It started off easy enough, but then suddenly I just didn't get the directions.  They had you putting it together differently then the PDF pattern did, and I am too inexperienced in this area to just do my own thing, so I was trying to follow along.  EVENTUALLY I got it together..after LOTS of ripping out and starting over etc., lol.  I am still not sure how I arrived at the final product.  It IS adorable though so now I can just hope it fits her little head, lol.  Let me show you....

LOVE THE WATERMELON FABRIC!  DECIDED TO GO WITH THE CONTRASTING LIME GREEN RIBBON INSTEAD OF JUST PLAIN WHITE....I THINK IT'S CUTE!

TA DA!  ONLY TOOK ME 2 AND HALF HOURS!  LOL

CUTE LITTLE ENSEMBLE....

And then late Friday afternoon I got a call from the sewing machine repair guy who started the conversation by saying, "I have good and bad news!"  NEVER good to hear that let's face it, lol.  The bad news is that the circuit board is on back order and could take six to eight weeks to get it!  And the good news is after further inspection he really didn't think it was what was wrong with my machine anyway.  He "thought" it was because the week before he had another 580 in there doing a very similar thing and that's what was wrong with it.  But he honestly felt after a thorough and total cleaning, oiling, and replacing a couple of little somethings [can't remember now what he called them] and a total adjusting of the hoop module, it would be as good as new.  All of this is included in my regular servicing of the machine.  I had put on over a million stitches [is that even possible?] in the last 7 months, so he was pretty sure it was the problem.  Sooo we picked it up Sat morning, and I will test it out today.  He left the circuit board on order just in case, but of course I am soo hoping that it is not the case.  The circuit board btw has nothing to do with the sewing part of my machine.  I have really never had an issue with the sewing part.  Every little kink [and if I am being honest MOST of the "kinks" were operator errors!] have been with the embroidery side of the machine, not the other.  So I can continue to sew no problem with this machine, but not embroider should that be the case.  Which I guess in the scheme of things is not the end of the world, but annoying nonetheless.  After a few more errands on Sat. hubby and I saw a movie and then spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning our leather couches.  SUCH a chore let me tell you, but SOO worth it when it's done.  These couches are nearing 15 years old!  Again, is that possible?  We bought them at the time spending a little more money then we were comfortable with in the hopes that they would last....and let me tell you we sure have gotten every little penny out of them we counted on.  They are first and foremost the most comfy thing to sit and/or nap on you can ever imagine.  And while not as good as new anymore, they are still looking pretty good.  Especially after their cleaning.  However, they too have found their way on to the replace soon list....sigh....nothing lasts forever.  Yesterday was church, lunch with my oldest son's family afterwards, and a little shopping at Joannes for me after that.  All in the most horrid of weather, lol..  HOT and humid!  A terrible combination.  Made me glad that humid is not something we usually put up with here in So California.,...good thing too as I don't do it well as it tends to make my grumpy, lol.

I have quite a bit of sewing to finish up before Melody and her family arrive on the ninth, so I'd best get busy.  Hope you all have a good week!  Blessings to you all!  Debbie    A few more pics for my book following of course.

  1. Such adorable little outfits for such an adorable little baby girl, Debbie. Yes, those boys are really growing. And it does seem like they change over night, doesn't it.

  2. They grow by leaps and bounds! I think your sewing machine news is good...hope that it passed the tests you are going to put it through. What cute outfits you made for Claire. I think my sewing for children days are over. Nary a word from the recipients' parents or the grandmother. Sigh. Perhaps it is early yet. But, yes, as you say, it's so nice to see the outfits being used and appreciated. And I so agree about PDF patterns.

  3. Well, humidity is a regular part of our lives here in Louisiana. It is just awful but I doubt it's going anywhere. Love all the cute outfits and the cute Grans that they go on. Hope your machine behaves now. Happy week Debbie!

  6. Humidity is an everyday thing here ... and when added to our hot summer temperatures, it makes for some miserable days. We had some cooler less humid days this last weekend ... perfect for walking or biking, neither one of which I could do thanks to this blasted foot of mine. Grrr I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again (because what grandma doesn't love hearing it) that your grands are just so adorable!
