A LITTLE OF THIS AND THAT

Been busy this week with other things besides sewing, so haven't got my usual amount done.  But it's OK, I am moving right along, lol.

If you recall I made Christmas pillowcases for all of my grandkids last Christmas.  Sam and Luke LOVED theirs soo much that I made them some John Deere ones to use on their latest trip here to California, and then to take on home.  They love those too.  So Melody mentioned they would no doubt love one to use during the month of October with a Halloween theme.  Grandma was only to happy to oblige.  These pillow cases take about 20 minutes from cut out to finish [if that!] and I could make them all day long....or maybe even in my sleep.  I was thinking it would be fun to make them for every month of the year with an appropriate theme.  You know, Sept could be back to school, Oct. - Halloween, Nov. - Thanksgiving, Dec. - Christmas, Jan - New Years, Feb. Valentines, March - St Patricks Day, April - Easter, May - springtime, June - summertime, July - 4th of July, and Aug. well, I couldn't think of one for August....sun and heat and summer's end is all that came to mind, lol. Melody told me not be get carried away it was TOO many so I guess I won't do it, lol.  But they are quick and easy and there is ALWAYS darling seasonal type fabric that I wrack my brain trying to think of something to do with it,  So who knows...maybe I will make some more in the future anyway,  I do know the kids love them.  I have to at minimum make one for Luke for Thanksgiving time since I made one for Sam last year so he has one, and Luke was still in his crib so I didn't.  They share a room so I can't have Sam having one and nothing for Luke.  Anyway, all of this to tell you I did whip up their pillowcases yesterday,  Sam told me he wanted "nice" ghosts on his lol.  Here they are....

I EMBROIDERED THEIR NAMES ON THE TOP ALONG WITH A COUPLE OF "FRIENDLY'" GHOSTS TOO, LOL

And then when I was browsing around on Etsy I saw some cute little "trick or treat" bags and decided to make up some of them for these ones as well.  Obviously Claire will not be doing in candy gathering this year, but this way for next year she is all set with a matching [though girly] type bag. These are toddler size and were super easy and fun to make.  Just kind of made up my own dimensions and pattern, but I think they will work really well.  Let me show you....

SAM AND LUKES ARE MADE WITH ORANGE AND BLACK STRIPES FOR THE LINING AND THE HANDLES, AND CLAIRE'S IS DONE IN ORANGE WITH BLACK POLKA DOTS.  HER LITTLE GHOST HAS A MATCHING BOW ON HER HEAD....SOO CUTE,,,  THE BAGS THEMSELVES ARE BLACK CANVAS TYPE FABRIC.  I WANTED THEM TO BE STURDY.  I BOXED THE CORNERS TOO SO THAT THEY WOULD STAND UP AS WELL.

THE INSIDE OF ONE OF THE BAGS...YOU CAN SEE THE ADDED STITCHING I PUT ON THE HANDLES TOO  [IF YOU LOOK CLOSE] TO MAKE THEM STURDIER, THOUGH I PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE ADDED A BATTING AS WELL BUT I DIDN'T.
I plan to make another one for Cody [only it will be a little bigger] but I don't think any of my other grands would be interested.  Though I haven't asked my youngest son's family yet.  Maybe Vinny and possibly Tella would be interested too.  If so grandma will gladly oblige of course.

And then I think I mentioned in one of my last posts that I was thinking about re-doing my scripture picture to use with my Fall trees as the colors really didn't go together well, and I didn't really like the fabric I used very much either.  Well, I did and I am sooo glad.  It's a long design......over two hours to stitch up, but it was SOOO worth it.  MUCH better fabric, and now the color selection matches perfectly. Let me show you that....

LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS AND CAN''T WAIT TO GET IT FRAMED!

JUST SO YOU CAN SEE HOW WELL IT MATCHES WITH TREES.  HUBBY AND  I WILL CLEAN HOUSE AND PUT UP MY FALL DECOR SOMETIME THIS WEEK-END, SO I WILL SHOW YOU HOW IT ALL LOOKS IN IT'S FINAL PLACE, ONCE I FIND IT THAT IS, LOL.

I am going to have a quick lunch and then pop over to Hobby Lobby for a little bit before heading over to my grand daughter Lindsey's volleyball game.  Not sure if I ever mentioned she DID get into the school she wanted to go to soo badly, and with a small scholarship as well, and then she promptly made the volleyball team and has been playing all summer.  The scholarship was NOT nearly enough to cover all of the tuition, so we are joining them in prayer that God will provide what it still needed to cover costs. Meanwhile they are moving ahead in faith.  We are hoping to have a Class family beach day sometime this week-end, but are running into problems here and there.  Soo many of us, and soo many different schedules.  We will see.  Hope you all have a wonderful holiday week-end, and get to spend at least some of your time enjoying the fruits of your labor!  Blessings to you all!  Debbie    Oh, and course my usual cute pics will follow.....ENJOY!  [I get the most of Claire of course as not only is she a cutie, but she is changing DAILY and it's the only way I can kind of keep up...

  2. Gosh I can't believe how much Claire has grown. What a cute little girl. I love that picture of her in her little Tutu. The boys looks so cute at Ferrel's Gosh that was a blast from the past, when I was a kid and we stayed with my Aunt and Uncle they always took us there for ice cream. How fun.
You have been so busy. I love those pillow cases and the treat bags are wonderful. You do such incredible work Debbie. I hope you have a lovely weekend. Yes, the more our families grow, the harder it is to get schedules to fit.

  4. That Claire ... what a sweet, happy girl. I hope your grands realize what a treasure they have with you as their Grandma. And I hope you can find some time for a Class Family Beach Day (I only have one child, but it can be hard to arrange our schedules for time together ... I can only imagine a large family like yours).

  5. Hi Debbie. I just typed out a nice long message and then it went poof! I will try to condense it down. Love the pillow slips for the kids. So cute. I am eager to do some with embroidery. Your Fall trees are lovely, and I love the new embroidered scripture. So pretty. And the kids...oh my, they are all getting so big. And so cute! Little Claire is growing so fast. She looks like her pretty Mommy.
Greg and I will go to the sewing machine shop one day next week and see if we can get to the bottom of why we can't upload designs. I am SO ready to spread my wings and fly with new designs and fonts.
    XO Kris

  6. What a happy baby! She really is changing fast. Hope that your family is able to figure out a plan that will work for all. My family will be here because, apparently, I make the best hamburgers. Ha!

  7. I love the pillowcases and the Halloween bags! You are so creative and talented Debbie. I think I told you before that my mom was very good with things like this but I didn't inherit that particular gene. I have enough trouble seeing to thread a needle if I have to sew a button on. :) Love all the photos.

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie
