RAINY SLOW WEEK...SOME SEWING...AND SOME NEWS!

Well it's already Friday, and the first week of January in the new year is behind us.  I had a little harder time then I thought I might getting myself back into the swing of my regular routine which is usually busy, busy all the time, lol.  I think it might have been because So. California got herself a good rain and the cold, darkish type days seemed perfect for reading, napping [wink] and even an old movie or two.  I did enjoy having my CLEAN CLEAN house all back to normal, tried out a couple of new recipes, and spent a great deal of time online looking for an inspiration for the quilt I intend to make for my coming new great grand daughter, and for my niece who got married a few months ago. I had intended to give her a quilt at her California reception a couple of weeks ago, but I just never did get to it.  I have decided that for me the hardest part of quilt making is deciding on the pattern and the fabric.  There are just SOO many choices, lol. I NEED to make some decisions soon on both of these projects though and get busy on them. Meanwhile, I DID put together a couple of the double sided, self binded receiving blankets with flannel fabric I already had on hand.  I decided to put her name on one of the blankets as they have already picked out her name, and that was kind of fun.  The pics are not very good that I took, but I will show them to you anyway, lol.

As I look at them here it is making me think that I need to dig out my good camera and take decent pictures from now on as my phone pics are just not very clear...but anyway for now you get the idea.

Other then that there is some pretty big news over here for us.  Hubby has accepted a new job! NOT really something we thought we'd ever be announcing ever again considering his age and stage of working career, but something we both feel that God has for him right now nonetheless so we are excited.  I DO have a few reservations as we have had things pretty nice with his schedule and stress level, and this will be a return to the corporate world and the much more stressful work loads that come with it.  For years and years he ran a fairly large branch of Konica Minolta in downtown LA, and very successfully too. However it came of course with it's own set of problems and stresses and headaches, so at first when they approached him about this job we both felt like it was just not something he'd even want to consider. But they pursued him pretty enthusiastically, and I GUESS I am glad that they did now.   He will again be running a branch, but with a few pretty good changes. The first [and one of the biggest!] is the office he will be opening up is here in Brea, about 5 minutes from us!  His commute before was a nightmare, so this is REALLY big for him.  And then the opportunities for making good money and finishing off his career in such a fashion is always appealing, along with much more reasonable health benefits etc.    Soo this begins on Monday.

I intend to hit Joannes today as their flannel fabric is on sale 50 percent off and I have a 20 percent off my total purchase on top of that.  Definitely the time to buy.  And we have a funeral on Sun afternoon down in San Diego.  A sweet man from my son's church passed away quite unexpectedly and quickly on the Sat. after Christmas of a heart attack.  I personally did not know him, but hubby did as he was part of the men's activities that hubby participated in.  He was a helpful, constant presence within this church and he will be missed deeply.

Hope you all have a good week-end!  I think we are supposed to get more rain!  Many blessings to you all...Debbie

  1. I am excited for your hubby, Debbie. In Southern California, commuting, as it is here in Texas, is a nightmare! He will be so close to home, and no doubt doing something he has always loved. Sounds like a win-win!

  3. What great news! I am very pleased for your husband and so glad that you don't have to move or anything and that his commute will be a piece of cake. It sounds perfect. "Sophia Rose" is a lovely name. I really like the receiving blankets you've been making. Praying that the rain stays gentle and easy...not too much mud!

  9. So happy about Hubby's new job and that it fits so well into your current lifestyle. Nothing wrong with a good salary, a job you know and enjoy and no driving time. Sounds like a win win to me. New beginnings and right in line with my verse for the year: "Behold, I will do a new thing,..." Love the name monogramming on that sweet little blanket.
