ANOTHER WEEK....

Well here it is Thursday July 7th already, and I seem to just be getting worse about getting up a post.  PART of the reason is because I am desperately needing a new lap top, and this one I am using is just getting harder and harder to work.  I recently purchased a mini I-pad and I honestly thought I might be able to just do my blogging from it.  But there is an entire list of reasons of why I don't like to, so it really did nothing to help out in my blogging.  Plus, when it comes to downloading an embroidery design for my sewing machine, I really need a computer for that too.  And turning into one of my favorite things to do is listen and learn from the HUNDREDS of tutorials that are online about various different sewing, embroidery, quilting and etc. projects, and nothing is as convenient for this as a computer sitting on my lap.  So there are a few of my pathetic excuses....

So now then, what have I been on?  I bet you can all guess...that's right, MORE sewing.  I did get the blanket made for Sophia, and I made the make up bag for my girlfriend as well.  I'll show you both of those first....
\
REALLY HAPPY HOW MUCH  EASIER THIS FABRIC WAS TO WORK WITH  BOTH A WALKING FOOT AND LOTS OF PINS...

MADE TOTALLY OUT OF LEFT OVER JELLY ROLL SCRAPS....I REALLY LIKE THE DECORATIVE STITCHES I FOUND FOR THIS ONE.
And then I got Sophia's 4th of July outfit made including the little shoes...Let me show you

BOTH THE BOW AND THE ONESIE WERE PRETTY QUICK AND EASY TO MAKE.  AND SINCE I HAD EVERYTHING I NEEDED ALREADY AND A LITTLE TIME TO SPARE I DECIDED TO MAKE HER A LITTLE PAIR OF MATCHING RED SHOES OUT OF RED GLITTER FELT.  I HAVE COME UP WITH A WAY TO MAKE THESE EASIER TOO WHICH WORKED REALLY WELL.  I USED LITTLE MINI WONDER CLIPS TO ATTACH THE SOLE TO THE SHOE PART TO HOLD THEM IN PLACE WHILE SEWING INSTEAD OF PINS, AND IT WORKED REALLY,, REALLY WELL

CLOSER LOOK SO YOU CAN SEE THE GLITTER

AND THE APPLIQUE BETTER

SOPHIA IN HER LITTLE OUTFIT, THOUGH I NEVER DID GET ONE OF HER SHOES ON HER, LOL

SHE WAS MESMERIZED BY THE FIREWORKS....SOO SWEET
Our week-end was a really nice one.  On sat. hubby and I picked up my quilt.  OH MY GOODNESS is all I can say!  I just couldn't have been more pleased.  She does SUCH a wonderful, wonderful job with the quilting.  Everyone in the shop ooo and awed over it as well, and I left SUPER eager to get it finished up to see the final results.  I will get a little out of order of things here and go ahead and show it to you now, though it was just yesterday before I finally had the chance to finish it up.  It is REALLY REALLY heavy as I backed the whole thing in Minky. But it is every bit as soft and cozy as I thought it might be, and the quilting just shows up beautifully on it.  But it did make it extremely difficult to work with.  I decided to machine sew the binding on though I usually finish up the final step by hand. But the quilt is soo heavy and I think it will have LOTS of use, and I wanted the stitching to be more secure.  I haven't put one on by machine before, so that was new, but was really no big deal at all, and I guarantee you cut at least 4 hours [maybe more] off the time it would have taken by hand.  As usual, I didn't take very good pictures.  I intend to have hubby help me take some pics of it outside this week-end so that I will have better ones, and because the ladies at the quilt shop want a pic of it so that they can put it on their facebook page.  These pictures DO NOT BEGIN to do the quilting justice.  There really is no way to SEE a quilt well, except for in person in my opinion. But here's what I have got right now.

I COULDN'T GET UP HIGH ENOUGH TO EVEN GET THE WHOLE QUILT IN THE PIC AND STILL GET CLOSE ENOUGH  SO THAT YOU CAN SEE THE QUILTING.  THIS IS THE BEST I CAN DO, BUT YOU GET THE IDEA

I USED THE NAVY FOR THE BINDING WHICH YOU CAN SEE A LITTLE BETTER HERE, AND THE QUILTING IS A LITTLE EASIER TO SEE FROM THIS ANGLE TOO

HOW THE BINDING LOOKS ON THE BACK NEXT TO THE GREY MINKY

LOVE LOVE LOVE THE QUILTING
I told my hubby on the way home that day to remind me of this moment in the future when I ask him WHY I took up quilting?  I still find parts of it fiddly, and time consuming, and OK, downright ANNOYING to cut out, and even boring at times if I am being totally honest, BUT!!!  the final results are SOOOO worth it.  I love quilts.  And being able to create them myself is very satisfying feeling.  So hopefully in the future I will do less complaining when I am in the midst of one.

I cannot seem to remember if I have mentioned what we are doing on Sunday afternoons for now,  or for at least this summer anyway.  I don't want to take the time to go back and check several of my blog posts to see if I've already mentioned this or not, so if I have I am sorry and do feel free to skip ahead, lol. It's kind of a long story so honestly I will try really hard to give you the condensed version.  The bottom line is that my son James is starting an in home Bible study fellowship at my niece Jessica's house on Sunday afternoons.  He lives in Escondido down in San Diego, and my niece lives in Rancho San Margarita about an hour up the coast from him.  So he finishes up his regular Sunday morning services at his church in Escondido, and then has a quick lunch with his family and then drives up to my nieces house.  He is bringing his worship leader Amy and her sisters with him as well to lead in some worship time.  Jessie meanwhile [and my sister Danae [who is Jessie's mother] and I as well] have invited as many friends, neighbors, and family as we could think of who might be interested in attending this, and truthfully the response has been somewhat overwhelming.  We had close to 30 adults [not counting the babies and kids] attending last Sunday, and afterwards we had a 4th of July of sorts bbq as well.  There are several more who are planning on attending in the future, so this may have already outgrown Jessica's home.  There is a plan in place should this be the issue, but guess we will have to get to that bridge before we cross it, lol.  This works REALLY REALLY well for us, as Jessica's house is only about 30 minutes from us, which is MUCH better then the hour and 20 minutes it takes us to get to his church.  I've SOOO missed his teaching every Sunday, though as you probably recall we did drive all the way down there for almost 4 years, and still do on occasion as well.  My son feels the Lord has been leading him in this direction for a while now [over a year] so he felt like it was just time to step out in faith and see what God has in mind.  He is still very unsure rather or not this will result in his starting a whole new church in this area, or if it is just supposed to be a summer thing for now.  We have only had 3 meetings so far, and truthfully God is already at work with some of the people who have drawn to this.  People none of us even knew either.  It is VERY exciting to be part of this and I look forward to whatever it is, even if it ends up being just an extra summer Bible study.  I LOVE listening to the guitar music fill the air and the sound of voices raised in worship in her home.  It's working especially well for all the young mom's with babies and small toddlers to work their babies and yet be attending a service.  Guess time will tell.  Anyway, the service and the bbq went very well, and it was a really good time.

On the 4th we were supposed to go to my oldest son's house for another bbq and swimming and fireworks, but my poor DIL woke up sick that morning and so we had to cancel it.  Hubby and I were perfectly content here just puttering around.  We did catch a movie in the afternoon, and came back here and bbq some yummy salmon for dinner.  We had planned on catching a local firework show, but decided to watch Disneyland's display from our front porch with neighbors instead, lol.  We can see the fireworks pretty well from here, lol, which they do EVERY night all year round.

Tues I spent over two hours sitting and visiting with my girlfriend, and giving her belated birthday presents.  And then yesterday like I said, was spent finishing up my quilt.  Today, I ran a couple of small errands this morning, and since my cleaning woman is here today I finally got the time to do a post.  I have sooo many things on my "to do" list for sewing I might never get to it all.  And pretty soon here I am going to have several of my grandkids come and hang out with us for a few over nighters.  And somewhere here soon Melody and her family are coming for a week as well.  Soo lots on the horizon for this summer, and I know before you know it, it will come and go.  But in the meantime I intend to make the most of every moment the Lord grants me here.

Hope you are all having a good summer.  I'll leave you with the usual kid/grandkids pics.  Blessings to you all, Debbie

  3. Debbie, I feel so lazy after reading your blog posts. But, that's alright, you are right where God has put you and so am I. The quilt is so pretty and I also love the quilting. What a lovely design. And all those babies! What a joy to watch them grow. How exciting it must be to see how God is working and going to work in this new area of ministry. I could sense your feeling of excitement and anticipation in being part of this new work. Please continue to keep us posted. I have missed being involved with the blogs I enjoy following the last few weeks. I'm hoping when I get out of this brace and can be more active, I will again be inspired to spend more time posting and reading. Have a great week, my special friend.

  5. Wow! You are the woman! Your family is gorgeous and I love the pic of those sweet little chubby legs while you polished toenails.

I can't blog on the iPad either. What I do is type in the word content on my notes, then email to myself and paste that into the blog and add photos. For some reason, I can't post photos in the blog on the iPad and I can't edit more than one or two paragraphs. Very irritating.
