MONDAY MORNING MUSINGS

Well here we are to Monday again and honestly I just remembered my plan to post every Monday morning if I could, so here I am.  Though truthfully, it is already noon.

We had another GOOD week-end.  I am soo grateful for the fact that my husband and I get this time together, and that we are usually soo on the same page for how we should spend our time.  We didn't do much of anything of any real difference, but here is what we did do....Sat. we had our usual S L O W morning, and then headed out for a few errands.  After we finished that up, along with a yummy lunch out, we headed over to my oldest son's house and picked up little Cody so that he could celebrate his 8th birthday with grandma and grandpa.  We started a new thing with most of our grandkids a few years ago now, where if their parents have not had an actual birthday party for them, (which is frequently the case the older they get!) then we pick them up and take them to lunch, or for ice cream, or to a movie, and then finish it off with a stop at the toy store (or a clothing store for the older ones, lol) and let them pick out their own birthday present.  Soo much easier then trying to buy something for them when we are usually "clueless" as to what to get.  Sometimes (with the oldest ones who are busy with their own lives!) we just send a card and a check, but we both REALLY love the time spent just "hanging out".  We enjoyed EVERY LITTLE MINUTE spent with Cody. Seriously even though I know all grandparents say this, but Cody is just the sweetest thing you ever saw.  His nature is happy, laid back, and willing to go with the flow.  I just can't describe it.  He is a complete and utter delight to be around.  We stopped for ice cream first and he asked for 2 cherries on his oreo cookie shake, lol.  Doesn't take much to please him.  He was concerned that grandma wasn't having any (like I said, such a sweet nature) but I assured him grandma has had more then her fair share of ice cream over the years, and these days she needs to just pass that up.  Sad, but true, lol.  We talked about school, his friends, and Disneyland, which is where he spent his actual birthday the day before.  He had actually never been to Disneyland which is kind of unusual for someone who has grown up right here in California, but he had not.  He of course LOVED it and had much to tell.  I was sooo glad his parents were able to take him.

8 YEAR OLD CODY....HOW GORGEOUS ARE THOSE FLOWERS BEHIND HIM?

SUCH A CUTIE!

HIS FAVORITE THINGS ON THE DAY WAS THE CARS FROM THE CAR MOVIE

WITH MOM AND DAD AT THE START OF THE DAY

FATHER AND SON ON THE ROCKETS
After ice cream it was on to the toy store.  I can't even really describe what it was he selected, lol. Some kind of a robot watch that works with your i-pad and has lots of possibilities, lol.  How is that for vague?  Whatever it he was, he was  sure delighted.

Then yesterday it was church as always, a couple of quick errands and grocery shopping afterwards, and then home for the super bowl.  I am not a big football fan.  HOWEVER my entire family is....including Melody.  She is maybe even a bigger fan then a couple of her brothers are, and of course her dad, lol.  Since I was always outnumbered, I did learn the game, and do usually enjoy the super bowl. Most of the rest of the time when I my husband watches I head to my sewing machine.  But yesterday found me on the couch totally immersed in the game.  What a game!  Melody has been a HUGE HUGE Tom Brady Patriots fan for years and years it seems, so naturally I usually root for her team when I can.  I was convinced they were beat yesterday that's for sure, but was I ever wrong. Only Tom Brady could have pulled off that win.  We made chili and enjoyed the game while texting frantically back and forth with all of our kids as they watched from their own homes.

So that brings us to today.  I spent quite a bit of time over the week-end organizing my patterns, and running off new ones, in hopes of getting back to some sewing this week,  I have a few things lined up I want to do, and hopefully I can get back into the grove of things this week.  I am not sure why I have not been able to get myself going on things, but I have been going through somewhat of a lazy, dry, slow spell.  You might remember a couple of weeks back I made up some pj's and pillow cases for Sam, Luke, and Vinny.  I finally got Sam and Luke's mailed off and they got them last Thursday. Melody said they were soo excited that when they put them on they refused to take them off, and got their pillows and blankets I made for them a long time ago, and curled up on their couch for some cartoons as happy as can be.  Their happy little faces is why I sew.  Let me show you....

LUKE AND SAM....THE PJ'S ARE BIGGER ON THEM THEN I THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE!

SAM WAS THRILLED WITH HIS NINJA TURTLES...HE IS WRAPPED UP IN HIS FAVORITE JOHN DEER BLANKET I MADE FOR HIM WHEN HE WAS A BABY TOO

AND HERE'S MY LUKE WITH MICKEY MOUSE....I MADE FOR BOTH OF THEM THE MICKEY BLANKET A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, BUT IT IS A DEFINITE FAVORITE FOR LUKE.  COULDN'T BELIEVE I FOUND THE COTTON FABRIC OF THE PILLOWCASE TO MATCH THE FLEECE OF THE BLANKET

AND HERE'S SWEET CLAIRE WHO DIDN'T WANT TO BE LEFT OUT EVEN THOUGH GRANDMA DIDN'T SEND HER ANY NEW PJ'S OR PILLOW OR BLANKET!!  GRANDMA IS ALREADY WORKING ON THAT, LOL.  HONESTLY, I GUESS SHE HAD NO IDEA SHE'D BEEN LEFT OUT.  SHE JUST RAN AND GOT HER NIGHT NIGHT BLANKET AND JOINED HER BROTHERS ON THE COUCH, LOL
And that's about all I got.  I did get the blanket we (Jeff helps me with these) are making for Claire all cut out and ready, and this afternoon I plan on getting her pj's cut out.  Hope you all enjoyed your week-ends. and are looking forward to a good week!  Many blessings to you!  Debbie

  1. Debbie, You just amaze me with how much you sew for your grands!!!! Glad you and hubby are on the same page with activities. I wonder if you are getting a lot of rain these days? It's warm some days and then cold on others; we go to AZ in another week and a half-I'm looking forward to sunshine.
    Hugs and blessings,

  2. Sounds like a perfect weekend, especially time with that sweet Grandson. Wanted to tell you that Tommy and I started watching Lark Rise to Candleford this evening. We need closed caption for parts of it but our provider doesn't offer that. But, we enjoyed the first 2 episodes.

  3. If my grandson hadn't got one of those robot things from his other grandparents I wouldn't have known what you meant. I have seen how it works. It is really mind blowing. The kids look so cute in their P.J.s what a great idea for birthdays. I think that would be such a nice way to let them feel special. It sounds like you had a really great day. Have a good week Debbie.

  5. Good thing for you that she didn't know the difference! I am surprised that your daughter is a Pat's fan and Tom Brady fan. I knew I liked that gal! I thought that the symbolism of Patriots coming from way behind and winning was kind of special. Cody is a cutie pie. It has to be special for your grands to spend time with you both all by themselves.

  6. Your grandson Cody is a handsome guy! It sounds like his birthday was spectacular!

I love that you guys all watched the game and texted one another as you watched. No need to let the miles that separate you keep you from shared fun! :)

  7. I totally love your idea of celebrating your grands' birthdays with them with a special day together. I'm sure he'll remember those far better than a birthday party filled with kids and you somewhere in the room! Have a good weekend.
