HODGEPODGE WEDNESDAY

It's already Wednesday and time for the Hodgepodge!  I love 3 day week-ends for soo many reasons, but this is just near the top.  It makes for such a short week!  Join the others who hodgepodge by clicking on the picture below.

1.  What makes you feel accomplished?  Explain.  Well I guess there are a few things.  But probably one of the first that pops into my head is to complete some sewing project or another.  Especially if it incorporates something that is new to me such as learning to do a ruffled or lettuce hem as I recently did. But I have done that on a few things where I want to know how to do something.  Look it up on line, and then kind of somewhat teach myself to do it and then do it. For some reason it does give me a sense of satisfaction or accomplishment to figure something out on my own, lol  For those of you who do not know what a lettuce hem is I'll show you one of my recent projects that had one...

IT GIVES THE APPEARANCE OF THE SKIRT BEING RUFFLED
I DID IT ON BOTH THE HEM OF THE DRESS HERE AND THE LITTLE FLUTTER SLEEVES

2.  If you had your own talk show, who would your first 3 guests be? Tell us why. OH..MY..GOODNESS... This is going to require some thought, lol.  And of course I am totally basing this on what would interest ME, not what I think might necessarily interest everyone else watching, lol.   I think one of my first guests would be Karen Kingsbury, lol.  I've read every one of her books and enjoyed them, and then she's done a couple of bible study videos that were really good too. She seems soo down to earth and someone I could totally relate to and I think she would be really interesting to talk to and meet. My sister is in Hawaii right now on a Christian Marriage Retreat and she is one of the guest speakers. She sent me a little video of her talking and I soo wanted to pull up a chair, lol.  No doubt that's why she popped into my head.  My second one would be Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilting Company.  She is the owner/operator of a HUGE online and in Missouri quilting store business.  She has done literally hundreds of quilting tutorials and has a huge following. She played a HUGE role in helping me teach myself to quilt, and I just think she'd be really interesting to sit and talk to and kind of get to know, lol.  And my third one would be Carrie Underwood, lol.  Kind of a big star I know, but this is My talk show after-all so we are already dreaming.  I love her!  I love her voice, her music, her faith, and just most things about her.   So there you have it.  I can't wait to read who everyone else picks!  I have a feeling mine are pretty random.

3.  Do you have a great burger recipe?  What's in it?  What do you like on a hamburger and where is your favorite spot to order one out?  Well, I have several burger recipes I use pretty regularly, but I wouldn't describe any of them as "great" lol.  I will go with hamburger pie.  I use the gluten free Bisquick when I make this, and serve tomatoes and avocado and pickles to the side.

    1lb lean ground beef
    1 large onion, chopped
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
    1/2 cup Bisquick
    1 cup milk
    2 eggs

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Brown ground beef and onion together until meat is cooked. Mix in salt. Spread in bottom of glass baking pan. Sprinkle cheese on top.

In a separate bowl, mix together Bisquick, milk and eggs (mixture is supposed to be runny). Pour mixture over meat and cheese.
Bake in oven 25 minutes or until a knife inserted comes out clean.

I like the basics on my hamburger.  Lettuce, onion, tomato, pickles, avocado, and ketchup.  The only place I ever order a hamburger anymore (which is rare) is Red Robin because they have a gluten free bun and the burger itself is really pretty good.  I order the mushroom burger which comes with sauted mushrooms of course and Swiss cheese.  I used to kind of like Carl's Junior Western Bacon Cheeseburger, but I haven't had one in years.

4.  What's the biggest anxiety producing thing you do on a regular basis?  Honestly, I do nothing on a REGULAR basis that produces anxiety as anxiety itself has been a thorn in my foot for pretty much my whole life.  So I try to do whatever I can to avoid stirring it up.  As a general rule these days not much does.  If I let my mind go....and don't bring it under the control of the Holy Spirit, then it can get out of hand on many subjects.  I can and do worry too much.  Always have.  And it pretty much never goes anywhere good.

5.  This is the last Hodgepodge of May.  Tell us about your summer plans.  I guess I don't really have all that big of plans.  My daughter and her family are coming for a week.  They will be here over the 4th of July and we are all gathering at my sons house so I am looking forward to that.  Then, I always have (or try to anyway) all of my younger grandkids come and spend a couple of days with us on a one on one basis.  There are 5 of them that do this so that does require some scheduling and some time.  We always thoroughly enjoy it.  And then we are going to spend a LONG week-end in August (probably 4 days) in Big Bear.  Haven't been to the mountains in a while and it does sound good.  Other then that most of my days will be spent doing what I always do.....sewing, lol.  And I do already have some Christmas ideas and plans in my head that I will probably begin believe it or not in July.

6.  Insert your own random thought....Last week I mentioned that my grand daughter Lindsey was coming over so I could help her make a sensory toy for her Early Childhood Development class as part of her final.  We settled on a cute teething ring as it did incorporate all of the senses and we finished it up today and she just left a little while ago with it.  We had such a good time.  Let me show you...

OBVIOUSLY ALL THE COLORS ETC WILL SATISFY THE SIGHT SENSE.  AND THE TOUCH OF COURSE WOULD COME FROM HANDLING IT ETC.  FOR THE HEARING SENSE WE PUT CRINKLED PAPER FROM THE BACK OF HEAT AND BOND INSIDE BEFORE WE STUFFED IT WITH FIBER FILL.  IT MAKES A WONDERFUL "CRACKLING" SOUND, AS WELL AS FEELING SOFT AND SQUISHY LOL.  FOR TASTE THERE IS THE WOODEN TEETHING RING ITSELF, NOT TO MENTION OF COURSE EVERYTHING GOES IN A BABIES MOUTH.  AND FINALLY FOR SMELL WE COVERED IT IN BABY POWER AND THEN DUSTED IT OFF COMPLETELY WHICH LEFT A WONDERFUL "BABY" SMELL, LOL.  I HAD EVERYTHING FOR THIS ALREADY ON HAND WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE WOODEN TEETHER WHICH I FOUND ON AMAZON.  LOTS OF MOM MADE SHOPS ARE SELLING HOMEMADE TEETHER'S NOW SO I GUESS IT'S A THING, LOL.  ONCE I FIGURED OUT HOW TO GET THE TEETHER INSIDE AND STILL MAKE MY MACHINE WORK, WE WERE HOME FREE!  HOPE WE SHE GETS A GOOD GRADE, LOL!

Hope everyone is having a good "short" week!  Blessings to you all!  Debbie

  2. You may be one of the most clever people I know! Love that sensory toy! I also love that cute outfit with the "ruffled" hem. I have made that hamburger pie in the past myself and it's good. Your honest answer to #4 pretty much describes me!

  4. Well, you should feel very accomplished most days because of all your beautiful sewing. And, I love the lettuce heming, so girly. And, I like your 3 interviews, would be so interesting. I love Carrie as well. As to Tiger, thanks for sharing that story with me, but oh, so sad and no wonder he has such issues. Just hard to believe a parent could be so controlling. Have a great rest of the week!

Sounds as summer plans are shaping up well.

I enjoyed reading your response to the second question. Very interesting! Have you seen the interview on You Tube with Jenny? It really is very interesting.
