WEEK-END WRAP UP...AND A FEW SIDE STORIES TOO!

Well it's fairly late Monday afternoon, and I am STILL on hubby's computer.  And yes, I still hate despise loathe dislike it.  I spend way too much time re-doing and re-typing and just flat out "thinking" when I try to work it.  But the good news is mine is fixed and he is going to pick it up for me on the way home from work....YAY!  I contemplated just not doing this post of course until I got it back, but honestly I have a full day already tomorrow and I want to get this post done today.  Sooo I will just have to trudge through I guess and hopefully won't end up totally frustrated and in a grumpy mood when I am finished.

So let's see....I got my sewing machine back last Tues morning, and then I met my sister Diane for lunch and a little bit of shopping.  She doesn't really get many opportunities to do this as she home schools her grandchildren, so I jumped at the invitation even though I really should have sat down and sewed as I had a big list of things I wanted to make for Sophia's first birthday party on Sat.  But we had such a good time and I was soo glad I went ahead and went.  I just have to tell you what happened at lunch though.  I don't remember the last time I laughed quite as much.  It had been a perfectly normal lunch with lots of talking and eating and we had just had our drink glasses filled with water again and were settling back for a little more conversation, when I reached forward and tipped my glass over.  Icy cold water spilled in GREAT quantity on my lap, all over the table, and of course onto the floor.  I honestly don't know how it happened, but it did.  And then!  My sister in her haste to grab napkins out of the holder to help mop it up before even more went onto my lap and the floor, promptly dumped hers as well.  We were literally under water.  We were laughing so hard and making such spectacles of ourselves, I don't know how they didn't ask us to leave.  But we got it all mopped up eventually, got fresh glasses of water, and tried again, lol.  Don't think we will be forgetting that lunch for a while.  We did have to do our shopping "damp" to put it mildly, but it was a break that it was a REALLY warm day.

Then, I spent the next 3 days frantically sewing.  Honestly I don't know why I waited to the last minute.  It really isn't like me.  I sooo dislike feeling pressured that I plan things out way in advance usually.  But I just didn't do it so I just had to really push myself.  Another little side story though has to be told here.  I wanted to make her a swim suit.  I had enough fabric on hand and a pattern that was the same one I had used to make Claire's so I went to work on it first.  Well....I should have done a little refresher video on how to make the elastic work as I did remember it was a giant pain and I didn't do it well.  But I was in too big of a hurry and was feeling on the lazy side so I didn't do it and just raced ahead.  Well I was barely into it when I realized I had botched it up WAY too much to fix. The bottom line on ANY knit fabric (or swim fabric is even worse!) there really is NO making of mistakes, as the stretch stitch I use is pretty much unrippable.  But I had just barely enough fabric left to squeeze out cutting out another piece, so I did and started over.  I got quite a bit further this attempt, but again made a mistake, and by this point I was regretting ever even giving it shot.  Sooo rather then waste any more time, I tossed it aside and began something new.  Thankfully most of the rest of the stuff went fairly well.  I ended up just buying a swim suit, a cover up, and a little sun hat, and honestly it was a lot more enjoyable, lol.  Let me show you everything....

SO HERE IS THE SWIM SUIT, COVER UP AND LITTLE HAT I BOUGHT...SOO CUTE! OH! AND EVERYTHING WAS 50% OFF SO IT WAS REALLY REASONABLE TOO

NOW THIS ONE I REALLY LOVED!  I HAD ORDERED THIS FABRIC MONTHS AGO IN A PRE-ORDER ROUND FROM ONE OF THOSE SHOPS THAT SELL THE PRICEY BUT WONDERFUL KNIT FABRICS.  I CAN'T RESIST IT...I CAN'T!  BUT ANYWAY, IT DIDN'T ARRIVE UNTIL 2'OCLOCK ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON, SO THIS DIDN'T GET MADE UNTIL AFTER THAT, AND I HAD TO WASH AND DRY IT AS WELL FIRST IN ORDER TO PRE-SHRINK THE FABRIC.  ISN'T IT JUST DARLING FABRIC?  I INTEND TO MAKE ONE JUST LIKE IT FOR CLAIRE!

I GOT THIS FABRIC AT JOANNES A WHILE AGO AND HAD IT ON HAND AS WELL

ANNABEL SENT ME THIS TODAY SO I COULD SEE HOW WELL THE FLAMINGO OUTFIT FIT HER.  I LOVE THE COLOR ON HER!  SHE IS SUCH A LITTLE DOLL...LOOK AT THOSE EYES!  SORRY, I CAN'T ALWAYS CONTROL MY GRANDMANESS

AND THIS IS SOME OF THE "NICE" FABRIC THAT I HAD LEFT OVER FROM CLAIRE'S BIRTHDAY PRESENTS.  I USED THIS PATTERN WHEN I MADE ONE FOR CLAIRE TOO.  IT'S SUCH A CUTE PATTERN, AND REALLY PRETTY QUICK AND EASY

NOW THIS ONE WAS FROM PART OF THE FABRIC THAT ARRIVED FRIDAY AFTERNOON, AND I WAS JUST GOING TO PASS ON USING IT FOR HER AS I HAD REALLY RUN OUT OF TIME, AND BY THE TIME I HAD FINISHED THE LITTLE DRESS, I WAS TIRED AND MY BACK KIND OF HURT FROM SITTING THERE TOO LONG....BUT! WHEN I GOT UP SAT MORNING I DECIDED TO GO AHEAD AND WHIP IT UP EVEN THOUGH WE HAD TO LEAVE AT 10:00 AM.  NOT ONE OF MY WISER DECISIONS.  I DO NOT SEW WELL UNDER PRESSURE OF TIME (have I mentioned that?) AND I MADE MORE MISTAKES ON THIS SIMPLE,  SIMPLE SIMPLE LITTLE PEASANT TOP THAN I CAN REMEMBER MAKING IT A LONG TIME.  BUT I GOT IT DONE, AND IT WAS WORTH IT.  I LOVE THIS FABRIC!

AND THIS LITTLE PINK AND BLACK ONE TOO WHICH SHE PUT ON HER AFTER SHE HAD CAKE, LOL, AND SO YOU CAN SEE HER IN ONE OF THEM.  IT FIT HER PERFECTLY AND I WAS PRETTY HAPPY LET ME TELL YOU.  IT IS ALWAYS RISKY SEWING SOMETHING FOR A GIFT BECAUSE IF IT DOESN'T FIT YOU ARE REALLY PRETTY STUCK.  NOW I HAVE MELODY MEASURE EVERY LITTLE THING FOR ME AND THAT WORKS PRETTY GOOD FOR CLAIRE.  AND LAST YEAR AT THIS TIME CLAIRE WAS TURNING ONE AND I USED THE PATTERNS I USED FOR HER THEN FIGURING THEY WOULD PROBABLY WORK AS THEY ARE PRETTY SIMILAR IN THEIR SIZES.  IT DID!

We met at a park to celebrate and had pizza for lunch.  The kids played ball and we had a good time.  But it was HOT (95!) and so we broke up early and went to my son's house so everyone could swim.  I watched for a little while, but ended up going inside to relax in the air conditioner, lol.  Afterward we all went for spaghetti at the Old Spaghetti Factory.

YUMMY CAKE...AT FIRST SOPHIA WAS REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE CAKE.  BUT THEN SHE STUCK HER FINGER IN IT AND THE FROSTING OF COURSE STUCK TO HER FINGER AND SHE HATED THAT FOR SOME REASON AND BURST INTO TEARS, LOL.  POOR LITTLE THING AT THAT POINT WAS SOO TIRED AND OVER IT ALL.

THE LOOK ON HER FACE DEFINITELY TOLD HER MOOD, LOL

SOPHIA'S MAMA, MY GRAND DAUGHTER ANNABEL (JOE'S OLDEST DAUGHTER) AND HER HUBBY DANIEL, AND LITTLE TIRED SOPHIA

THE KIDS AND GRANDPA PLAYING SOME SOCCER AT THE PARK

THE GUYS PLAYED SOME BASKETBALL AT JOE'S HOUSE BEFORE THEY JUMPED INTO THE POOL.  IT WAS SOOO HOT WE GALS KIND OF THOUGHT THEY WERE NUTS.  BUT HONESTLY MY BOYS AND THEIR DAD JUST ALMOST NEVER GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY BALL ANYMORE ALL TOGETHER, AND JUST COULDN'T PASS UP AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO.  THEY PROBABLY PLAYED A THOUSAND GAMES OR MORE GROWING UP RIGHT IN OUR DRIVEWAY.  I AM GLAD THEY STILL ENJOY IT.  BUT AT 65 I AM KIND OF CONCERNED THAT MY HUBBY STILL GETS IN THERE WITH THEM.  HE JUST CAN'T BEAR TO HANG UP HIS SHOES.  HE STILL DOES PRETTY WELL TOO

JUST ANOTHER SHOT

THE KIDS GOT RIGHT IN THE POOL....SO DID THEIR DOG, LOL

LITTLE TELLA IS THE ONLY ONE WHO WOULD STOP AND "POSE" LOL

I have one more little side story...when we arrived at the restaurant my hubby couldn't find his phone. I think (but wisely didn't say!) that he was just SOO tired from soccer, basketball and swimming that he just wasn't thinking clearly, because after we did the search thing on my phone looking for his it showed up that it was on a street we had used to get to the restaurant.  Hubby then remember he had laid the phone on the roof of our car while he loaded up our things, and then just drove off with it still there I guess.  We figured it was gone for good, because it is a REALLY busy street it was saying it was on.  But after we left the restaurant, hubby and I drove by there and he got out of his car and looked and actually found it!  And it was still working just fine!  Now the screen was definitely cracked and somewhat shattered, but it was still working.  We honestly couldn't believe it.  He was hoping to get it repaired today.  How wonderful that there is such an app on an i-phone that helped us locate it, as we of course would have NEVER found it.

Sunday we didn't do much of anything besides lay around after church.  We watched a little TV, took little naps, and generally lazed the rest of the day away.  Today I started work on Luke's 4th birthday things and I need to finish up what I am making him and get them in the mail no later then tomorrow afternoon.

I MADE HIM THESE DINOSAUR SUMMER PJ'S AND TOMORROW I AM GOING TO MAKE HIM A DINOSAUR PILLOW CASE.  HE IS SUPER INTO DINOSAUR'S RIGHT NOW.  IN FACT, THE THEME OF HIS BIRTHDAY PARTY ON SUNDAY WILL BE DINOSAUR'S, LOL.  I WILL REALLY HATE TO MISS HIS PARTY!

Well that's about it for now.  I did this FAST so hopefully there are not many errors.  Not too frustrated either and I am sure hubby will be glad that I don't feel too grumpy either, lol.  Hope you all have a good week.  We are going to cool back down to 70 on Wednesday and I am soo glad.  I don't think I am ready for HOT HOT weather yet.  Many blessings to you all!  Debbie

  2. I am glad that your computer is on its way back home. I've been having some computer issues myself this morning, so I understand how frustrating it can be! :/

Awwww . . . such adorable outfits for little Sophia! I can hardly believe that she is having a birthday already. Where did that year go? She is darling!

So nice to enjoy lunch out with your sister, even if you both did get a bit wet. :)

(Loved the comment you left on my blog! So nice to know that someone else understands "car therapy"! And, yes, I will enjoy every minute of it!)

  3. You did it! And tomorrow's post will be easier on your own computer. The outfits are adorable. Adorable model, too. I must go look for that app because I lose phones and ipads all the time!
